This show and SCV both made me enjoy the whole outing (San Antonio show). Both had amazing emotion behind them, and this one should have beaten Blue Devils.
I would too. 2018 was his age-out year so he had to cry. Session 44 was one of the best shows the Bluecoats did in my opinion. Would've loved to march with them that year to feel the experience.
Probably my favorite show of 2018. I didn’t like it at first but the more I listened to it I learned to love is so much more. To me it really does tell a story of love, and don’t even get me started on the singer the Quran she is. Should’ve placed over Devils in my opinion.
Chase Miller i know it wasnt meant to be that way and was because of adrenaline problem but honestly it adds to it and i think... it honestly sounds better... old school recording in a way you know? Of course unintended but it kinda adds to it.
Brian Riven what a bad take. Kinetic Noise gets overlooked a lot because it’s the year after T/LT but it’s got a super cool gimmick and the ballad is drop dead gorgeous.
I cry like a baby everytime. I don't know what I'm going to do when I finally compete in my first show ever in a competition alongside the Bluecoats this summer. If you see a balling DCA performer this 2019 season, just know that it's from happiness.
Session 44 --The number "4" is the shape of a chair. --Billie Holiday was 44 when she died. This is her posthumous retrospective. --This was her 44th session. (thank you @squillz8310) --The single chair is a symbol of contemplation, of long studio sessions, of support when you're weary, and of isolation. --The featured singer illustrates the life of Billie Holiday who struggled as a black jazz singer, and as a female artist in a largely white male industry. --Holiday struggled with drug use, possibly illustrated by the toppling chairs. --She went to prison, and then performed at a sold out Carnegie Hall. --Her costume features subtle black and white stripes, like a prison uniform, a symbol of her personal struggles. --The ensemble appears dressed as studio musicians of the 1940's, each suit is individual. --This show's theme featured the music of Billie Holiday, the writer of God Bless the Child, an anthem about her independence from her mother. --The show appears to be a retrospective of her life, beginning with timid performing in a seated position, being whisked into the limelight in a flurry of success and drugs, and at the end, standing in strength of self-identity and independence. --The yellow chairs use Holiday's signature gardenia color - she often wore the yellow blossoms in her hair along with stunning embroidered gowns during her years of standing room only success.
Say what you will about this show as a whole, there’s just something magical about this part, with the trumpet solo accompanied with near dead silence throughout the stadium, the gradual adding of parts with the trombones and adding on more instruments plus the singer till the big hit at the end of Saro. Incredible, love it.
Wow really great job from the singer at the end with the long note. She was just a TINY bit sharp, hence the vibrating sound, but she toned herself to the corps and then it was just so perfect. That, as far as I know as a barbershop singer, is really difficult to do. Well done!

The show placed right where it should've placed. Babylon had a ballad that will go down as one of the greatest of all time. BD was extremely clean as they always were, and Crowns hornline book was hard enough to push Bloo out of third.
meh, people are nuts about this moment. Don't get me wrong, it is one of the top moments of the year. But as far as the signer goes, She sings well, but not impressed with the performance she gives, not even her fault. She just doesn't display a performing look much of the time. Also, they didn't keep to much of the original sound of God Bless the Child. Not very bluesy.
I'm right with you dude. I saw this show in the theater for the premiere and it just left me bored throughout the whole thing. I saw it again late July and had the same feeling. They've definitely put on better shows than this one.
Sabre Stormy I disagree, I think that Drum Corps needs those new ways to innovate and create effect from a composition standpoint and the addition of voices in drum Corps has opened a ton of new possibilities.
