I'm in the future....sitting in the same living room I watched this 40 years ago, a fulltime caregiver for my mother after 2 brain tumors. Using a tablet like Star Trek Next Generation to watch cable TV that is being sent to it without a wire from a cable box in the basement - and I'm crying watching Joe Jackson in a tux 💗 Thank you for these windows
I thought I was done being emotional then they hit me with Supertramp - Raining Again... 😊 All the best to you and your family brother, and thank you again for all of this content. I tell people about the channel all the time - I am in awe of the catalog and how far the years go back....amazing!!
Stevie Wonder's song is beautiful! I remember hearing it on the radio back in the day when my mom and dad took my brother and I on a car ride around where we lived at the time. He is an incredible musician! I love all his songs! And Joe Jackson's Stepping Out song too.... I still love that song too whenever I hear it. Good memories of growing up during the 80s and having these songs out at the time! Btw when my younger cousin was a baby and I was babysitting her I used to teach her the song Mickey. She would just laugh and laugh at me singing it to her but she still remembers me doing that lol
You are killing it. This is one of the only channels I stop and check out whatever gets posted. Never stop because your content is legitimately appreciated. Thank you.
A GOOD jukebox! Stevie pre-braids. And Linda Ronstadt pre-"Mr. Plow" episode cameo on The Simpsons! 😸😉🎶 "Stepping Out" by Joe Jackson a personal favorite.
Once that intro started up, I have to imagine there were a few memory brain cells in my head which were responsible for holding this memory which were VERY surprised to be called upon after all these years.
As crazy as it may sound, I swear I remember watching this very episode when I was only eight years old! I used to sit by the tv with a cassette recorder and wait for these to come on, so I could hold it up to the crappy tv speaker to record songs I liked that I knew would be on. As impractical as it seems, somehow there was something very cool and rewarding about it that later generations will never get to experience. I think having to resort to doing things like that made our generation much more creative and resilient. Hard to develop that in the same mannor, when everything is available instantly without having to pay to BUY a cd, etc. and/or devise a way to obtain a poor quality copy of something until you could afford to buy it. I wouldn't trade growing up like that for anything!
A stretch here, but I request a tape of Fifteen, Welcome Freshmen and Clarissa Explains it All and maybe a Double Dare with 90s commercials. I love this channel!
Many cable providers didn't carry MTV in the early 80s, so programs like this and Night Tracks, Night Flight were where you could watch the latest videos. Heck, many people didn't even have cable and NBC's Friday Night Videos was your only choice. When MTV stopped being a sort of novelty and became more ubiquitous is about when it jumped the shark. Sometimes in the late 80s.
I grew up in Bumfuck Alabama in the 1990s and we did not have MTV for years. In 2003, we finally got it. So as far as music channels went All we had were BET, CMT, and TNN. Those of us who liked rap and pop music were SOL except for this Night Tracks, Night Flight, and Friday Night Videos. We did get FX when it first came out in 1994 and we had the show Sound fx. However.
@@jwgreek8606Before I had cable, I used to watch Friday Night Videos on NBC and before that came on the half hour ABC Rocks which when I lived up in high rise in Silver Spring, MD at the time on a Lancaster, PA ABC affiliate as the Baltimore and Washington ABC affiliates WJLA and WJZ didn’t carry the show.
Yo dudes! It's s not tv is HBO! HAPPY 50Th ANNIVERSARY! (1972-2022) Mr.mone media any word from the marathon cartoons yet? I'm sorry for the service! happy 50 HBO!!!!!! 🎂 🎁 🎁🎈 🎈
ABBA trying to survive in the glorious 80's, thankfully they were out of the times and dried up, the greatest band from Sweden was on the horizon, Roxette
Joe Jackson is cool, but Toni Basil's "Mickey" is a real generational classic. Still "sing" it internally or externally today! btw. how much did Gwen Stefani rip off this track? Think about it. It's bananas. B.A.N.A.N.A.S!
1982.. I was in a local "camera" store who decided to extend to video displays. they had maybe a 19 inch diagonal flat screen (tv only at the time). guess how much.. remember 1982 dollars which are like 4x todays dollars (thanks BRANDON).. 20 GRAND! twenty thousand dollars for a piss poor lCd , not lEd TV. 19 inches! not sure of the relevance besides how much I hate BRANDON.

joe Jackson song is a tearjerker for me, too many memories with that song, and memories of my moms. I wish nothing but good health to your mother.

Love that. I am having hard flashbacks. Sorry for your pain.
For a lot of us, Video Jukebox was our MTV before many of our cable companies started carrying it.
Yup
Yes! You are so right!
Those HBO bumpers are a straight shot of nostalgia. Wow.

Thanks for the post! Looks like this actually aired January 8th, 1983 at 6:30 am, right after "Convoy" and before "They All Laughed."
Man this bring back memories especially since my dad had the illegal HBO hookup in fact I don't know anyone who had the legitimate HBO hookup
I was 8. We just got HBO. It was a big deal. My mom loved Mickey. Played it over and over. Great memories.
Oh my. I’ve never seen that Go-Go’s video before. 😮

Jane Weidlin was the hottest Go - Go !
@@urbanurchin5930 no disputing that

Would love to see you post more of these HBO Video Jukebox clips, Mone!

Haha. Mr Plow, what an episode ! Agreed Joe Jackson !
I think one of the first videos I saw was Freeze Frame . My friends family had HBO and that was our MTV! Thanks for the memories!
Once that intro started up, I have to imagine there were a few memory brain cells in my head which were responsible for holding this memory which were VERY surprised to be called upon after all these years.
Oh my God, Get Up and Go was my favorite song on the Vacation album!
I was 10 years old in 1982. I remember watching Video Jukebox at my dads house before we got MTV. I forgot all about this. ❤😊
I remember HBO jukebox they need to bring this back, so people can see unedited uncensored videos
Loving the channel.
Binging ever since I found it.
❤
I forgot how talented Linda Ronstadt was.
....??? .....I guess.....what a nice comment ?? However, Linda Rondstadt is not in any of these videos......

I love how the warbling of the VHS tape was preserved.
Miss this time and I was just a small kid in 82
I was watching these videos and having fun in my 20s. Now , I'm watching these videos and in my 60s and i'm wishing i was having fun. 😳

Had something against ABBA did you?roxette was still 10 yrs away at this point.
So cool! Thank you 😊
19:08, 1982 meets a woman with a yellow umbrella. Was the creator of "How I Met Your Mother" inspired by this video from the early 1980s?
Joe Jackson was amazing too, some catchy tunes, wonder what happened to him..
It was great.
It's crazy to think Toni Basil is 80 now.
Never even heard of this on hbo.
forreal?
And Toni Basil can still dance!
Did you record not necessarily the news? I’m dying to find more episodes of those.
Best of Times 📀📀📀📀❤️
The time when HBO was mostly about the music in stereo.
Superman II !
Nice
Booooom!💯💯💯
I can't remember who said it, but, "There are two kinds of men: those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and those who've never seen her."
This is from 1983 I think.
@19:49: Bring It On 2023
🎃awesome
I remember the 2 months in a row of these. Thanks, but could you upload an entire episode? I'm trying to get these.

Was the video after It's Raining Again Sexual Healinga?
yes, copyright cops wouldn't let me post it.
Is she singing about Mickey Mouse?

You bet!
We have become spoiled with high-definition. The quality of these videos is quite poor.
Because they are on tape it degrades over time. It was much sharper originally. Obviously not HD, but it wasn't that bad.
