    As an owner of an '85 Iroc Z28 for 20 years now , I have to agree with your comment of do it yourself wherever possible. If the passion for the car is there , so will be the determination to succeed in any project you undertake.
    Nice car you have there , keep the heart beating :-))

    @anythingthatgoes The strut tower brace was on the car when I got it actually. I have removed it before to drive it, specifically when I did the engine swap. The car didn't feel as tight and almost wanted to wander a bit. It's a very worthwhile upgrade to firm up the front of these cars.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  12 лет назад

    @camarocomputer Keep in mind this car has 6 gears - 2 overdrive gears since 4th is 1:1. On the highway at 65mph this car runs at 1700rpm's with the 4.10's. If you had any higher gearing, you'd have to cruise in 5th unless you wanted to speed constantly.

    I'll make sure to post a video in response to this of my built 355 in my 88 Camaro. It's my first build as well, and I think I should be able to get a solid 450 @ the flywheel out of it (not that HP necessarily depicts speed, but you get the idea). Lots of high dollar parts, but I'm stopping there until I get my suspension worked out. I've already started with front and rear springs along with drag shocks up front and adjustables out back. Should be a nice runner for sure.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  12 лет назад

    @GCxRenegade From what you have described, I wouldn't hesitate one moment to snag the IROC instead and swap what you can into it. You'll be able to recoop some money with leftover parts to sell as well. Seems like a win-win to me. You'll also be able to start from scratch basically, take your time and do things right, and you won't have to worry as much about trying to keep up with repairs on a 25 year old daily driver.

  • @chemicalspore

    do you think the rear end of a 4th gen camaro / firebird will fit on a 3rd gen? i really want to get a newer rear end with disc brakes.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  13 лет назад

    @Unique88maro I see no reason why it wouldn't - the suspension on this is just stock height - no issues. Just had to create a custom crossmember. There are crossmembers that have been made specifically for this purpose that you can buy as well.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  13 лет назад

    @ic3man0 I do all my own work as well. In the build of the engine - probably around $3000 (includes machineshop work (honing, decking, boring, etc), T56 was $1500 for the entire swap, rear has around $700 in it. Other suspension parts total out to about $500 or so. Probably another $1000 in misc items.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  13 лет назад

    @acquiesce1993 From what I hear, the stock heads can flow pretty well. If I were to try to get 350hp (at the engine) out of it, I'd grab some Hedman longtubes, a ported throttlebody, nice fresh air intake, ported plenum runners, and a nice healthy cam with a good amount of duration and lift. After you do all that, take your car to a reputible tuner in your area that can tune the ECU to match the addition of your new items. That should get you in the neighborhood in my opinion.

    It's all in how lucky you get with the OEM block cylinder wall thickness lottery. I've been burned by a .060 over block before. Cracked bore after first drive around the block.

  • @plasmeh
    @plasmeh  12 лет назад

    The car no longer has A/C, but it does have heat. You'll notice by the firewall in the video that there is a big black box on the passenger side. That is the blower motor box for the heat. I know what you mean about not being able to see the engine - the 70s/80s were known for smog/emissions control equipment that choked power and really clogged up the engine bay. You'll have to do some research into smog/emissions delete items that you can add. I

    @FalloutMan493 Unfortunately, you would not be able to use this cam with your 1992. If your 350 is stock to the car, you have a roller cam and would need to use a roller cam. The XE274 is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. Nothing is stopping you from grabbing a roller cam though and putting it in, just make sure you have enough spring on your valves to suppor the added lift.

    Great video. My son has a same-color IROC and a regular Z28 and does all the work himself. Like you, he goes to bed knowing everything was done right. Plus, you save a TON of money. Quick question - how much ground clearance do you have below the mufflers? These cars are so tricky to get dual exhaust on because of the lack of space.

    Hey nice car brother. I just bought a 1989 Camaro 305 automatic TBI. My question to you is this; how do you go about putting long tube headers considering there is no cut out in the body like on the right side of the car? My car has the factory exhaust, so what I noticed is th pipes coming down the right side, and there is a cut out on the right side of the car, but not the left, so how then would I accomodate long tube headers. Thanks for any help you could give me.

    Dude your car sounds amazing! Honestly I'm a Mustang fanatic to the bone but I have decided that I want to try out on a Camaro now, therefore I'm buying a 95 z28 in the next couple of weeks. Months ago I bought an 87 LT. It was converted from 305 V6 to 350 V8. I only paid $600 for it and intended to fix it up over time. It's not really drivable now and seems like the more money I spend, the more that goes wrong with it. I found an 86 T-Top IRoc for $1000. It's in much better shape than my LT, just needs an Engine. I was thinking of buying it, taking my LT's Engine, cleaning it, fixing any faults, and just moving it and any needed parts to the IRoc. What's your opinion of this idea?

    @85ChevyMonteCarloSS Don't skimp out on cheap parts number one. Get quality stuff. Things like rod bolts, head bolts, and really any other engine bolt - go with ARP. You don't want to mess around with cheaper stuff on a rotating assembling that spins 6k+ rpms under massive stress. Go as big on the engine as possible - more cubes, more compression, more power. Consider a 4 bolt 350 block punched over .060, then throw a 400 crank in it for a 390cu or so engine. Bigger is better. =)
