What mods do you have and also how did you find someone to tune it? I've been wanting to do a tpi build but idk anyone around where I live that can do a proper tune
Man, that exhaust note is sick. I don't think anyone will understand the 3rd gen community and what we see in them. To me, they are the best looking Camaro aside from the overly expensive 60's models.
Had a 86 for years with 7.5 ten bolt with 4.10 gears and 350 turbo with the kit for the bar on the rear. Motor was a 377 with flat top trw forged pistons, double hump 461 heads with 1.94 / 1.6 valves, victor jr. and 750 holly. Car ran 11.80s without nitrous and 11.00 with it. Probably could have dipped in the tens but ran the crap out of this car on the street. This was around twenty years ago. Busted the gears in the rear a lot.
I've seen a few videos of this car and I gotta say as a huge iroc fan this car is a 💎.... Keeping it tpi and a daily driver and a 6 speed still running a 10 this is a beautiful badass car
as an original owner silver 85 iroc purchased in santa barbara sept 1985. 29k miles on it and never seen the rain. it now has a doug nash 5 speed and a 406 w dart heads and a superram installed-EFF YEAH AWESOME YOUR MOTOR SOUNDS SO GOOD. you must have serious chassis work done. my car is tire smoke. GREAT CAR!
Aaron Vargas / I dunno, the Fox body is the darling but it’s an ugly car, the 3rd gens are good looking, handle well and are one of the easiest cars to make fast.
Man bro that is one sick Iroc! I myself am a VERY big third gen guy! I have had several of these cars and right now I have a 1989 Iroc z convertible with a 5 speed 305 tpi that I rescued from a farmer in Kentucky that he was just letting it sit. Surprisingly it has very little rust and I am restoring it in stages right now as we speak. I have rescued several of these cars from a certane grave. I have just purchased after 4 years of practically begging this guy to sell me his 1992 z28 heritage addition Camaro. I have been driving by his house heartbroken for over 4 years to save the car. It does have some rust issues but it seems very solid structurally where it counts. My next victim and it has been sitting for probably 7 - 8 years is a indy 500 pace car Camaro.. Im not having any luck at all at this point on that one but I am gonna press on till they get sick of seeing me and just sell me the car! LOL!! So as you can see I have a GREAT passion for these cars. You have one absolutely beautiful iroc here! Take care my friend! Jamie
If this was the same car that was in GMHTP before they got cancelled... I'm the reason you made the cover. When I gave Scott my Buick for a project he asked me, "What do you want?". I said, "A really nice Maui Blue 3rd gen on the cover shot from the driver's side in motion on a slight angle." "Really? I meant money wise". Sweet ride, that was my first set of wheels. I still have it and I really want to do an unassuming Targa Newfoundland car out of it with air ride and a crazy rear mount set-up that I can drive there and back and place mid-pack.
Yes sir, this is the same car... Thank you! :). I sold it last Spring to build a yellow 86 Iroc I've had since 1995-6. BUT, life happened, wife left and it's on the back burner again. I really need to get on it though! I am doing LS3, LSA, 4L80, 9", air ride, AC and pro touring style similar to this car...
I think there were only around 200 yellow "ugly hatch" cars made from the factory, so I get it. I have a black '86 sitting here with a wiped out #8 intake lobe on an early 2000's built 4 bolt main engine. Bought the roller cam, no time to swap it with the work schedule right now. But wunst I do? That will be my favorite oddball to rip. I really need to start making and editing videos because I gave my friend a low mileage fully loaded white '84 T/A to use his parts from a wrecked cloth interior '89 TTA to build something different. I even have the 84-86 style 16" wheels. Not enough hours in the day. Best advice an old gear head gave me? "Pussy practically grows on trees, but money and time don't". Live comfortably. Don't get spent.
The third gen Camaro was a sharp looking car, I don't know how that turd Fox body Mustang out sold them many years. The third gen has a small block chevy which still has vast potential and new heads have been released that can make one run with an LS. The heads are hugely expensive though but cheaper than a swap in most cases.
It's not so much the heads, it's the fuel intake system. Holley makes a TPI that comes with a harness and ECM. That's what you need to make one of these engines perform! There's no way to tune factory ECM.
nufnuffz28 Nope, banging gears is holding the pedal to the floor with no let up. Just like the old days. Hard on parts but man was it fun and sounded killer. Use high quality parts and have fun.
Maybe one day Chevy fans will learn how to love their camp without having to reduce themselves to disrespect. I am a Ford man through-and-through. I love Chevy's too, because I m not a small minded person, I am able to see the value in a different car, different set ups, different manufacturers etc.
+Battlescar Gigantica kinda agree cuz i loved my ls swap fox body and I've had an s2k, m3 and about everything else under the sun thats sub 40k. but now everything in my yard has a bow tie. oh and say what u will thats a savage simple 3rd gen.
I wouod never change a tpi system! I remember seeing my first tpi system . I thoughtit was tur grratest thing ever! Given, I had no clue what it was in 87. I'd raise the hood on my mom's 86 iroc and show my uninterested friends. Good times.
What are the front and rears? 17x?? And on what size tires? I really want to know because you nailed the stance! Are you running eibach springs? Reason I ask is my 85 iroc has a solid roller 406 in it with stock springs on KYB adjustable all the way around, but I'm going to drop in street able 355 instead so I can do the road racing / auto x stuff as well except I'm keeping my reverse manual valve body TH400. Going to run C5 Z06 wheels for road racing. I'm still gonna keep a 100 shot plate on it for drag racing ever now and then, so I'd like to know the specs on the tire and wheel combo you're running.
This is my new favorite IROC. What's rims tires you running front and back? Also what suspension setup do you have cause this is amazing! It's perfectly lowered. Long tubes? Sick build bro!
Thanks man. In this video I have 17" race sars, but normally run 19" Autoart wheels. I do have Hooker LT headers. the suspenion is highly modified, but it is setup for road racing. I could run a much better tme if I could get it to dead hook. Im doing some tweaks to it over the winter to hopefully come out strong in the Spring! Thanks
Awesome thanks glad to hear that it's still the stock TPI with port & Polish. This makes me have more faith on running my stock base with port/Polish nufnuffz28
How do you shift so fast/cleanly in a stick vehicle? Are you pushing the clutch in every shift? Rev match or forcing it in gear, or what? I drive a 5 speed car every day and can't shift that fast driving normally, much less at wide open throttle at 100 MPH! Reveal your secrets sir!
Wreckful Mainly its practice..... Clutch goes to the floor every shift. No rev matching or anything. Just make sure you have the clutch in when you try and engage the next gear. I let off of the gas right as I'm pushing the clutch in and then right back on it as the clutch pedal is released. No secrets, just time, practice, and a good shifting transmission. i will say, don't go really short on your shifter. The leverage you lose isn't worth the shortened distance the shifter provides. I like the stock SLP Hurst setup myself and that is what I'm using here.
Wreckful It's called practice. In the old days there was no letting up on the go pedal. Power shifting or "banging gears" as we called it. A good shifter and trans helps. A short shifter helps too. No leverage issues with a short one especially if you use like a Hurst Super Shifter.
damn nice run man! What is it about racing a 6 speed that makes you wanna shake the handle right at the end, LOL! Shake it more than twice, you're playing with it!!!!
Dann dude, it moves out. I just finished my ls1 swap. Hoping to be in the 10s by next year. I'm subscribing. Hope to see more 3rd gen videos. Feel free to check out my build.
