I love how this interviewer seems genuinely entranced by joining Ewan and Hayden in conversation. You can tell he actually respects them and their work. Love to see it.
And he's asking very thoughtful questions that aren't surface level at all. It's hard to interview well, but this guy is pretty good. No less than these legends deserve!

I mainly have 2 requests: a Qui-gon cameo and a scene of Vader grieving over the life he lost.
I love how Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of most powerful and influential Jedi of all time, slayer of Darth Maul, sips tea ever so delicately.
Must be hard to interview an actor with only 5 minutes

It's funny that Ewan thinks of Alec Guinness when he thinks of Obi-Wan. I think of Ewan when I think of Obi-Wan. I'm a fan from the original series days and obviously Alec Guinness' performance was a classic from a class act. I just think Ewan brought so much more to the character over all though. Alec had more of a passive style that made less of an impression to me. Ewan's so much more expressive.
A+ to Lucasfilm for casting Ewan and Hayden. Not only are they excellent in their respective roles, their chemistry and closeness make the heartbreak of their fallout on screen that much more palpable to viewers. I'm glad Ewan advocated for Hayden returning. You could make the argument that any other actor could be Vader under the mask, but you wouldn't have the Ewan-Hayden connection.
Funny you should mention chemistry because I never thought the two actors had it. Their banter always seemed forced and I never believed for a second that they had known each other for 10+ years… perhaps that was down to the writing tho…
@@joshhunt4146 I chalk that up to the dialogue. Unfortunately, Marcia Lucas wasn't involved in editing the Prequels. Hayden and Ewan always had a believable nonverbal vibe.

Look up Ewan's documentary on the RAF and the planes used by the British during WW2 some time. The documentary also includes his brother who is a modern RAF pilot. It's immensely interesting and mostly because Ewan is the narrator 😅

Ewan McGregor is really starting to sound more like Alec Guinness as time goes on and of course looks like a younger version of him too.
He really puts so much effort into playing the character so proud he's returned to the role of obiwan can't wait for the show to begin.
Other interviewers take note. This is how great interviews are done. Ask good questions, then LISTEN. Don’t interrupt, don’t perform your latest standup comedy bit. Just listen and only speak with the purpose of keeping the person you are interviewing engaged and talking.

Ewan is so humble, funny and a great actor. Cannot wait for this series and for Haydens return too. As a kid I imagined this series and Rogue one as the Prequels.
The interviewer's stare and odd self satisfied smile makes me rly uncomfortable. I would have reacted the same way as Ewan, the guy just stares super still.

Get your facts straight. Guinness liked Star Wars, there are interviews where he praises it. However he did say the dialogue was “ropey” and he helped George rewrite lines
he clearly liked the film or else he wouldn't have been in the movie
My own understanding was otherwise. There is a video of him on RUclips in which he is heard telling the interviewer that while he regarded the dialogue as very 'ropey' when he first received the script, he actually liked the story at large. I think he did not want to be known only for Obi-wan; he was already a reputed actor by then and had many a stellar role to his name.

Weird to think the series is ten years after episode 3 but in reality it’s been longer 17 years to be exact.
He mentioned that Obi-Wan watching Luke, but what about Leia, who was supposed to know him (as we know from the first scene of New Hope)? Will we see girl Leia in the series? Any clue?

It's her father who knows Obi-Wan, not Leia herself. I suppose the show could have them meet but if they don't meet it doesn't change anything. It's Leia's father, Bail Organa who sends her to Obi-Wan to get his help so anything she knows about Obi-Wan can come from him.
never forget that Obi Wan and Vader were great characters, only when George Lucas was the one creating Star Wars stories. Disney will destroy them, i am pretty sure... like Disney destroyed all of the other white men characters of Luke, Solo, and Palpatine.

so I hope I'm lucky enough to still be(alive) here in about 13years from now when Ewan is 63(same age as Alec Guinness then) and again finally playing the mid-60s -ish years 'old hermit' in the original story and meeting a young 20 year old Luke at that fateful time in both of their lives.

Alec Guinness was uncomfortable with being catapulted to super stardom because of starwars, he hated being incessantly asked about starwars by the media whenever he was promoting other projects years after the movies had ended.
No, he was sick of people only wanting to him ask questions about **one movie** he made, just like Harrison Ford, and ignoring the rest of his career. And that's because people didn't ask him questions about the craft, or performance. They just want to ask stupid shit about lightsabers or flying the falcon.
Cushing and Guinness being part of the film gave it prestige, which was important **in getting the movie finished** when the production was nearly shut down.
So maybe you ought to show a little respect.
As for 'sword work', the physical props in the first movie were fragile, because they didn't have the technology they did for the subsequent movies. And Guinness wasn't supposed to steal the show as master swordsman. He was supposed to play the ageing mentor. The prequels were intentionally showing the Jedi in a different light at the height of their power.
Being that Lucas was a huge fan of cinema, and Lawrence of Arabia, he was probably delighted that Guinness was in the movie, as was Hamill and Ford.
You can prefer Ewan but put some respect on Alec's name

Little bit of feedback: I like how you never interrupt and let Ewan talk for as long as he needs to answer the questions but it makes the interaction a little awkward, more structured and less like an authentic conversation. I know it’s so you don’t break their line of thought, I just prefer interviews that are more like a conversation personally.
