Portugal is my favorite country in Western Europe. Exceptionally safe, welcoming, and affordable. I want to retire there when the time comes. Learning Português in the meantime.

Sorry to say, but portugal is losing all of that. the excess in tourism and immigration is destroying us from the inside. It's almost unbearable, specially for locals

As somoeone who has flown TAP 2 times long haul in economy i can only praise them for how amazing both flights where from Lisbon to Brasilia and São Paulo to Lisbon. Amazing crew, very careful and both amazing flights

My significant other lives in Lisbon so I've flown so many different ways to Lisbon. I had the pleasure of flying TAP back to the US on my last return on the A321LR. The price was great, and the crew and product were perfect for a hop to the east coast from Lisbon. I'm sad I missed the new lounge by a few weeks, but I'm so glad to see others enjoy it!

Finally a good and detailed review of TAP's Executive Class product! I will be flying them in this class coming August to Brazil from Amsterdam with a stopover in Lisbon. Looking forward to it! It will be my first time in Business Class in any airline. Can't wait!
i flew in TAP business from Boston to lisbon round trip,it was really nice not the most comfortable seat but the service was really good and the food was fantastic for a airplane i'll give em 8 out of 10

I don't think you mentioned TAP's excellent safety record - the best of all European airlines, I believe.
I reckon this is my favourite one you've created so far, and it's so well done. Fine, living in Lisbon (as an American for almost five years), I have a bit of a bias and I truly love TAP (unpopular opinion for some, I know). But, TAP really does have a strong hard and soft product, amazing flight deck and cabin crews, and ideal network for its size at this time. Yes, LIS needs a new airport -- no doubt -- and I hope that we see a new one ASAP that will allow LIS to a) properly handle all its current and potential traffic, but b) to also allow TAP the growth and support it needs. If I had the money, I would invest in TAP -- that's how loyal I am. Brilliant review, I've always wanted to try the LIS-SFO route, so I'm pleased I got to see this. Cheers!

Next time you visit Lisbon check the city of Setúbal, an harbour city 50 Km south of Lisbon and the surrounding areas like Arrábida where you will find several beach located in a nature preservation area, in Setúbal you can pick the ferry to visit Tróia, Comporta and Alcácer do Sal coast line.

I flown tap last year from GRU-OPO-LIS-MXP and love the experience, it wasn’t in business but in Economy plus, defense fly it again, Always a good day when Patrick posts a video
Another great review Patrick. I've thought about flying TAP a number of times mainly due to cost. Frankly, TAP in business class is almost impossible to beat re value for money. The time of the return to Chicago means a very early departure from London or Paris or wherever. Portugal is wonderful so, maybe, an overnight connection in Lisbon on the way back is not such a bad thing. I could have dinner at La Brasserie de l'Entrecôte... And I am very happy to see that you got a bunch of Pastis de Natas on your trip. They are wonderful.
The overnight connection in Lisbon has showed up a bunch of times. I’ve done it a few times, with TAP and Azores. For the price, TAP is a big time win in my books!

Great review as we have come to expect. Value is there at TAP, albeit with less exciting meals and kind of just ok hard product. I have flown the pre-Covid. I liked it mostly because of the crew. Totally agree this is really a solid value airline. I think I need to move alliances. I am pretty stuck in One World. Thank you for getting this out so fast! Truly impressive. Other reviews are delayed by weeks or months!

3:47, Last June, I flew Tap air Portugal from Lisbon to Madrid and my flight depart at the S gate, 7-23, but it's bus gate because I am flying the E190.

Cool flight vlog!! Lisbon is a lot like SF! They even have a Goden Gate Bridge Replica! Nice cabin and comfortable seats. That food looks great WOW you travel a lot !

The bridge was build by the same company, but calling it a replica... Not quite the Vegas Eiffel tower concept.

Very complete video. I took TAP from Madrid (via Lisbon) to Rio a few years ago on an A330-CEO and upgraded to Business Class. It was a wonderful flight and though the seats were old, they were incredibly roomy....my row was 3 across. Food and service were great. I am sorry they changed their amenity kit....it used to come in a Sardine can and it was so cool. I know people call it "Take Another Plane," but I really enjoyed TAP and after watching this, will try to use it to return to Europe.

I just had a lovely flight in TAP Business Class to Cancun, both flights were great. And they have a new Lounge in the non-Schengen terminal part, which means you can now first pass the immigration and then visit the lounge.
Totally! I just wish the new lounge had showers for people transiting from a long flight. Other than that, it’s a bit small, but a big time win
First of all, that was an amazing review, one of the best i ve seen in many years. I m a frequent flyer of TAP Air Portugal, since 2011 going from Brazil and to Portugal, Portugal - Brazil, and from/to Lisbon to/from many european cities. What i can tell you is that there are different experiences in different routes and differente classes, as executive, economy priemium and economy. And also TAP uses their best airplanes in more demanding routes to/from US and to/from European counrties, and from Brasil from Rio de janeiro and São Paulo. The crew members seens to no enjoy at all brazilian costumers, i tell that from experience, i ve flew 28 transatlantic flights wirth then because of the facility to arrive in northeast of Brazil without extend the flight plus 6 hours rom São Paulo ro Recife (in northeast of Brazil), also they treat economy premium as economy and the meals are surrealistic with combination of candy bars with a sandwich, dinner of lunch is another feature with two terrible options, the entertainment system is not that bad but it doesnt renovate with frequency, as bussiness class it changes a bit, good meals and wine, but still from Brazil many times departurig from Recife they use a a330-300 (old version) or a third airplane without (sometimes) entertaiment system (for a 7 hours flight) the crew is rispid and treat costumers like Sh**, in Lisbon for connection flights at shcheng space you are not able to find any help in case of delays and canceled flights. I had in 2019, 2020 and 2023(december) terrible experiences, from flight canceled without further information (from Paris to Lisbon and from Lisbon to Rio), they just ignore you as a costumer. I had to sue than 4 times because of those incidents, and had the amount paid returned by judge enforcement. I only recomend TAP if you need a direct flight (they offer that to many cities in Brazil) but if not, theres no sense, as you pay in Brazil almost twice the amount from other companies and pay in as much as bussiness classe from companies like KLM, AirFrance, British and so on.
Just to point out that Europe (especially Western Europe) *is* “Western”. I believe what you meant was “North American”…
I love TAP! Can't wait to try them out of O'Hare! I actually once walked from the Lisbon airport to the big mall near the riverfront. Interesting area w/o the throngs of tourists and their elbows poking at your sides lol!
Haha oh yes I know that area well. Took the train there once and it was much easier than downtown
Centro Vasco da Gama, was built on the Expo 98 site near the Tagus river. Fewer crowds than in the city center, except on weekends.

The one time i flew was on Ryanair lis-toulouse, i was to get in tap but there was unforeseen strikes on that moment tho, so i ended up going with ryanair, glad your enjoyed our flight company, most of the portuguese people hate tap due to political reasons (the hate is well justified), either way im happy you had a good relaxing and safe flight, hope to see you in lisbon soon, and i sure hope to someday experience san Francisco for myself

The only issue I have with TAP is Lisbon Airport, which is by far the worst large airport I've visited so far.

It’s subjective, sure, but I can think of a number of Mid eastern and Asian airports that are far worse. Cairo, Saigon, Lahore.

TAP is a very juicy piece of meat for all big operators, but i hope it will stay a Flag Company, with a State Safeguard, and the Hub in Lisbon. Not Madrid, nor elsewhere.

Another great review! It’s always nice to see your flights starting or ending at SFO and showing our home airport to everyone. Any chance for some of the Asian carriers out of SFO in 2024? Cathay, Korean, Eva or Asiana? Perhaps one of the international carriers out of Oakland? Just a thought. Keep up the good work!
We will definitely get more Asian carriers and sfo this year. Mostly for convenience… but still fun!

Wow - that looks to be on par or better with any western long-haul carrier. I keep seeing TAP as one of the cheaper TATL options. I tend to avoid them, primarily because I want to fly a 747 or 777, but I'll have to give this a shot!

I was surprised by your comment on security. I live in Lisbon and often pass through security. It seldom takes more than 5 to 10 minutes maximum. What can be a nightmare is entering Portugal from a non-Schengen country. The queues can be horrendous for customs and there is no fast track for business passengers. A surprise in the TAP lounge is that in such a coffee obsessed country they use machines. The ANA lounge has baristas that make fresh coffee of many different kinds. The TAP lounge has a nice bar where they make drinks/cocktails to order
seemingly wooden paneling/accents in the airport looks cool - no vents coupled with pancake thin pillow #boofriggs ermahgerd you pronounce Toronto like you live here lol so entry to your seat seems to be super narrow (just me?) 28:59 (new sneakers??!!) the Lisbon-SF comparison was a nice insight

28:33, Wow, 6 hours is a very long sleep and your comfortable, that's good, considering it'a a 12 hour daytime flight to San Francisco. I am curious, what airline that has your most comfortable sleep on a business class lie flat bed?
I always prefer TAP over any other airline company.
As you said already, S-Gate means "Schengen area" and N-gate means "Non Schengen area".

I really like when you review Star Alliance airlines. My closest airport is IAD so I pretty much always fly United or their partners. I have never tried TAP but I will in the future if they show up as an option for my destination. There’s a good chance I will be going to Portugal in the next few years so chances are I will get to try them then.
I hope you enjoy it! The A339 is definitely better than the A321neos but the soft product remains the same. And I definitely enjoyed the food and crew

I began (international) traveling for work in the 1990's. My physician initiated conversation about compression socks and its benefits. Long story short, I tried it and I am most grateful to my physician for speaking with me about compression socks.

Depends if you’re on a widebody or not. On wide body airplanes, they do have a true premium economy. Otherwise when you see the economy plus seats, it’s just normal economy with a bit more legroom
Well... when you say CKIN area A is in the back corner of the airport, it's not trully like that. You got in the airport from a secondary entrance (that entrace is next to the arrivals, on the same level). The TAP check in is right at the main entrance hall. You get in and you are in the middle of the Check in area A. Right on the door.

TAP’s hard and soft product are decent but you lucked out getting to use the lounge so empty cause it is usually packed. Also the flight attendants in TAP have quite a reputation for not being, let’s say, friendly. visiting Portugal makes it worth it though.
The morning departures are definitely favorable for the lounges. The new lounge also helps to take some load off the main lounge. Maybe I got lucky with my crew, but they were all awesome

I am a frequent business traveler and I have received AWFUL service from TAP and beware the airport provider Groundforce. Groundforce, among many things, loads the bags on the flights. Imagine this, you're sitting in your seat and you have a clear view of the luggage cart. You see your bags and you see that they are NOT being loaded. The flight then closes the main door and they begin making safety announcements. Your bag is still sitting on the trolley. They did not load it. That happened to me. I delayed the ENTIRE flight and made them load my bag. I got into an argument with the flight attendants but when they realized I was right they relented. Worse than Groundforce is WFS. I personally avoid any airport serviced by WFS. Things have gotten better recently as the COVID pandemic affected staffing levels heavily. Good luck out there!

Flight may be good but customer service is terrible. Over a year to get money back even after refund promised during COVID. Had to do a charge back via credit card as they continually lied saying they were refunding in full and never did.
Dang that sucks. I was able to sort things out pretty quickly with a mistake on this booking. Maybe Covid made things a bit worse 🤷♂️
The price is so much less because they've been bailed out ... let's see how it will be in a couple of years ... and i hope I'm wrong.
