I'm inclined to agree. pretty fun port of the arcade original but definitely gets tough in later levels. and IIRC the SMS one didn't even have co-op? so it's at least got that going for it. might be my favorite out of the unlicensed black cart stable of TENGEN releases.

Yeah, not a terrible game. I was cautious only because I had been bitten by the port of Shinobi and was wary. But this was a perfectly servicable two-player game, and did not disappoint on a Friday night rental in 1989.

Very few of the Sega to Famicom/NES ports turned out well. I think it's basically this and the Japanese Fantasy Zone ports.

I was drawing, not looking at the screen when you hit me with "Yonic spawning point" and my head has never snapped to a screen so fast

This looks like a pretty nice port. The arcade original was a pretty good game and received some pretty nice ports to a wide variety of systems. I had the C64 version and even that one was pretty good (though it was murderously hard! 😆).

I have to disagree with you, I feel this port is actually better than the conversion on the Master System since it actually plays like the arcade game.

    “Illegal monopolistic practices”
I don’t know how this information keeps getting bandied about. This is not only an oversimplification but it’s also wrong. Nintendo won its court case against Atari Corporation who alleged that Nintendo was preventing third from putting games on the 7800. A jury found no evidence that Nintendo was coercing publishers. The US government had its own lawsuit over this isssue but because the the Atari Corp lawsuit was lost by Atari, the government ended up having to settle with Nintendo instead of a lengthy drawn out court case. The government ended saving face by allowing Nintendo to issue a 5 dollar rebate on NES games w/o having Nintendo admit any public guilt, implying that the government didn’t really have a case.
