Just a heads up for incoming freshmen, many dorms don't allow electric water heaters/kettles! Also, a vanity mirror is great for contact wearers, even if you don't wear makeup, because who wants to put things in their eyes in a communal bathroom? Not me!
My college doesn't even sell bottled water on campus! Instead there are water bottle refill stations in a lot of the buildings and everyone just has big reusable bottles!
Hydroflasks are SO popular in Oregon! One time I was traveling and the TSA dude saw my hydroflask and gave me free checked bags!! Great video Anne Marie I am loving these college tips and will for sure be buying a vacuum for this fall!
I just can't get over how REAL you are! It's the best thing finding a RUclipsr like you because you actually understand the struggles of school and are able to share your advice. You're so relatable and it's awesome. I'm going to be a junior this year as well, but on the opposite side of the states :) Yay for 15th grade!
+Jessica M Hi Jessica!! I just wanted to let you know that this comment made me so happy. I'm so flattered that you feel that way because I totally always have these conversations where I feel like some youtubers don't seem like real people to me 😂 but that's so awesome! It's so cool to see that someone my grade is watching. To 15th grade!! 😊
YES HYDROFLASKS ARE AMAZING!!! I'm from the bay area and once I filled up my hydroflask at home in the morning, drove to Santa Barbara, spent the night there and left my hydroflask in my car, and then the next day I drove to LA and by the time I got to LA I still had FULL ICECUBES IN MY WATER BOTTLE
I was going overboard, especially when it came to my dorm.. I bought a Television stand and even wanted to buy a couch, got like 10 pillows & even a giant Rikkakuma bear.. I took WAYYYY too many clothes.. I wasn't dorm shopping. I went Apartment shopping haha..
Definitely the electric kettle, especially if you're a coffee addict who wants to save $$$. As for everything else it's more of a preference issue. If you end up moving off campus and buying a bed bigger than a Twin XL then the mattress topper becomes useless. Also, I would like to add that you should probably invest in a Brita. If the place you're going to isn't known for good tap water, then definitely get one. Plus, if you move to a different city, you may just need it.
Decor is easier to switch out, but bedding can get expensive. I'll probably use the same comforter all four years unless I end up with a different size bed, but I'm definitely buying new sheets because mine are pretty gross. If you buy a more versatile comforter, it would be really easy to change the theme of the room.
There's this Bluetooth speaker I bought from Best Buy. It was like $20 but I got it for $10, the brand was Insignia. It was labeled Stereo Speaker. It looks a lot like a Beats Pill. I know the quality most likely isn't nearly on par with a Pill, but it was so economical, and it's very loud and it's lasted many months. I love mine. So if you're looking for a cheaper option, this is a good choice. Also, instead of noise-cancelling headphones, earbuds are a good option! You can wear those when you're sleeping too. 💜
It's actually really helpful that people make these videos. By this time, I've heard like 10 times to bring a vanity to college, but before that I never even thought of it! For me, it'll be a necessity though, so it's helpful that people make these videos.
I'm starting my freshman year of university this September and my mom mentioned bringing a good vacuum because I'm terrified of bugs. So glad you mentioned this too so I don't feel so weird about using a vacuum for that purpose :)
I'm a college freshman bout to enter my second semester and this list is 100% true. Literal gold. Also I love my Bose headphones. They save me. Soooo worth money.
Thank you so much for this video! I needed it! I'm moving in one week to Chicago and College always seems a bit scary but I appreciate all your videos because it makes me look forward to it (:
Soo i'm about to start my sophomore year. New semester, new major... So stressful! But your blogs reveal so much truth about college and im glad a youtuber is telling the truth! Lol
Congratulations on going into your junior year! I'm going into my junior year as well and I agree with all ten items on your list! I got an amazing 450 watt soundbar on amazon for like $60 when I was going into my freshmen year!
I drink tea and coffee as well, but I use the Keurig reusable K-cup. I use the same cup for both, and just buy the tea and coffee in bulk. Great video!😊
YESSS A good supportive backpack is a must! Literally do not know how people use unsupportive backpacks. Hydroflask is a must too! Especially if you are in AZ!
Great video! I'm starting college this month, but I can already vouch for the good backpack. I took a lot of AP classes in high school and had to carry around a lot of textbooks so I got a good backpack last summer!
I was on the fence about saving up for some super nice noise-cancelling headphones, but I've seen them on four college videos, so I'm definitely going to do that now.
I find it so odd hearing Americans talk about 'electric hot water heaters' - nearly every home in the UK will have one of these, but we just call them kettles! I suppose it's due to the national obsession with tea XD
I think I was one of 3 people who used our dorm vacuum. It was nice to be able to borrow one instead of dragging one to college. This might be something worth exploring before buying your own. I would add a couple things to your list. One is a good mini fridge - so worth the investment. Now that I'm an adult my husband uses it in his workshop. Second is a good little humidifier. It got soo dry in the dorms that we were all having major nosebleeds. Just a couple things to consider 😃
Your necessities that you keep in your backpack! I got a big Swiss Gear backpack and I'd like to what I should keep on there other than my laptop and books.
Can you do a video on what opportunities college offers for you? Also maybe a video of what you do with your free time or items that can save us money/ budgeting suspenses. Thanks! ^_^ great video too!
+Thao Le thank you so much! This comment means the world to me! I continue to make videos because of comments like this and kind people like you, so thank you 😊💕
FYI- if you clean your coffee maker (vinegar+water, then rinse 3X) then add tea bags to the basket, no need for another coffee filter. You can make 4-12 cup of tea, ice the rest for the next day.
The coffee maker thing is so true. You can do more with a coffee maker then just make coffee. You can make macaroni, ramen, pasta, you can boil eggs if you are persistent, you can heat up vegetables... Coffee makers can do a lot for you...
The backpack one - can confirm! When I started uni, I hadn't needed one in years, so I just got this cheap little fashion thing. 1. it wore out quicker. 2. it was too small to carry everything I needed. 3. it damaged my notebooks - it became a huge pet-peeve of mine that the corners always curled quickly because the bottom of the bag wasn't sturdy, and because it had a drawstring opening. 4. it absolutely couldn't handle massive textbooks and electronics all at once. I couldn't wait to replace it.
New subbie and don't want to be needy but😁😁😁 could you make a clothing haul of suggested things to wear for class or different activities? All I have are Nike shorts and t-shirts.... Thx a bunch! Love your channel!💕
I love watching your videos. You seem serious about your college life and not clieche or shallow like some other USC students. You are very natural and I just love that 3> Feel like I'm watching my friend's video who has totally same interests with me!
Very helpful! My campus (ohio state) is really huge but they hate bikers there. Luckily i have most classes around each other and my dorm so i'm able to mainly walk of take the campus bus. I never thought of the hydroflask, i'm not a big water person but i plan to make some changes once in college so ill be getting one a.s.a.p!
+MAmasBoy FAIZAN it's the best rivalry in sports, my boyfriend is a Michigan guy. It's fun to be competitive with one another!! He actually got me tickets to this past years game at Michigan, needless to say I had a wonderful time while he did not ;) O-H
Hi! I've been looking into vanity mirrors with lights and I can't figure out which ones would be good quality. Yours looks awesome! What is it and would you recommend it?
I don't have a Hydroflask, but I do have a Swell (though it appears that they're the same thing, just with a different shape and by a different company from what I've heard), and I would strongly encourage everyone to invest in a Hydroflask or Swell. Having a nice, well-insulated water bottle is seriously so great. I work at a dog hotel, and I have to stand for hours in the sun while the dogs are outside. With a regular water bottle, my water got warm after sitting in the sun for an hour. The first day using my Swell, I forgot that I took my water bottle out with me, and it was baking outside for hours longer than I was even out for. When I went to get it, the outside of it was insanely hot, but the ice inside was like I had just poured it. Invest your money in a good water bottle. It may give you sticker shock, but it's so worth it.
This video is so cool! I just made a video like this on my channel after completing my first semester at MIT. We share a lot of similarities and differences!
I'm only in 8th grade but I really want to go to college I just don't know how to pay for college, I don't have a college fund and I don't know what a student loan even is, could somebody please explain it to me, I really want to start saving up for college I just don't know how to, I'm starting my first job working on a farm in May but does anybody have tips, I can't really talk to my parents about this stuff because I only live with my dad who is constantly telling me college is a waist of time and money, I just need advice.
tesla If you're starting a job, you're already on the right track. Hopefully this gives you some kind of starting point. If you're passionate about it and work hard (don't stress yourself out too much or spread yourself too thin though) you'll be fine.
tesla alright. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do great things. College is a great goal, even if your parents discourage you from it, if you think it's the right fit for you then go for it.
One more thing, do whatever you can to graduate without debt. Saving plays into that, but also don't go to a college that you can't pay for all of. Go to a community college if you have to, it's still going to be s good education. You don't have to go to "the best" school to be successful in life
Hydroflasks are my favorite water bottles now too! My entire family was using them long before I was, but then when I finally started using it I never looked back, I take mine with me everywhere, seriously the best investment lol

You can get one just when the ra comes in to your dorm hide it under your bed lol in a container or something
It's great for me. I don't even need a mirror to put contacts in
lifewithjenna I did this with my candles, they all went in my dresser haha
My college doesn't even sell bottled water on campus! Instead there are water bottle refill stations in a lot of the buildings and everyone just has big reusable bottles!
+KVlogsDB wow that is actually so awesome and progressive!
KVlogsDB same here!!
1-Headphones

that's insane
Hydro flask water bottles are also super popular in Oregon. Probably because they were invented in Bend, Oregon
I'm a freshman!! In high school...but kinda getting pumped to go to college.
I'm going into freshman year in highschool and same XD
Nat Queen Cole lol it's not that great tbh
Nat Queen Cole you should have fun in high school while you can

+mollymiccee thank you for telling me that! It helps me think about special things I wanna buy.
+mollymiccee yeah! Or you can buy one duvet and change the duvet covers whenever you want to change it up 😊
That would work as well haha I just wasn't smart enough to do that
+annemariechase thank you !
Ahhhhhh your uploading schedule has been on point recently!!! Congrats to the giveaway winner!
Yes the backpack thing is very important especially if you're a commuter

idk if anyone has or does this type of video but maybe what clothes to bring to college???
Vagabond youth did a "top 10 college closet essentials" video :)
thank you !!!
bring summer / fall clothes first and then go back for winter clothes...and then alternate
Congratulations on going into your junior year! I'm going into my junior year as well and I agree with all ten items on your list! I got an amazing 450 watt soundbar on amazon for like $60 when I was going into my freshmen year!

Americans call them kettles too haha, just depends on the person I guess.
What they don't consider a kettle essential?
+Rowan Davies quite a few universities don't allow kettles because they can be fire hazards
+Rowan Davies no they don't. Few Americans own electric kettles. We just heat our water on the stove or the microwave.
They really do. I've never been to an American house without a kettle. I own one too.
when you get to college can you do a college makeup collection? and a college makeup routine

Congrats on 100k! Your college content has been super helpful for me as an incoming college freshman
Can I just say your makeup is flawless
I'd love to see a desk tour/organization/decor!
Congrats on 100k!! For me, your channel is one of the most helpful college-related channels I've ever come across

Yessaiii! hydroflask water bottles are the bomb! I'm from Hawaii and EVERYONE has them but it is a lifesaver!
I'm so happy that you've hit 100000 :) you deserve it and been watching since your high school Vids😊
The coffee maker thing is so true. You can do more with a coffee maker then just make coffee. You can make macaroni, ramen, pasta, you can boil eggs if you are persistent, you can heat up vegetables... Coffee makers can do a lot for you...
HYDRO FLASKS ARE THE FUCKING BEST!!!
I searched up the hydro flask water bottles and the look good. I'm thinking of buying them for the school year. Thanks!
+Zara Mughal yay! They're awesome and definitely worth the money. You're so welcome 😊
Thank you so much for making this video!! Really helpful!
What camera and lenses do you use?? Great video quality!!!
I REMEMBER THAT BUG! Congrats on 100k! :D This was super helpful!
hey Annemarie! will you do any videos about organization and your system of taking notes???????????? I'm so curious about it. thank you! :*

Really love your videos! It's super useful and insightful :D

I go to Ohio State too!!
Go blue
+MAmasBoy FAIZAN it's the best rivalry in sports, my boyfriend is a Michigan guy. It's fun to be competitive with one another!! He actually got me tickets to this past years game at Michigan, needless to say I had a wonderful time while he did not ;) O-H
Emily I-O hopefully i will be able to see you on campus in a few weeks
+Jay Xo definitely!!! Go bucks!!!❤️❤️
What camera do you use! I love the quality!
I love my hydro flask!!! I think everyone should have one
fort the coffee and tea stuff, just get a cheap basic coffee maker (there are mini ones) that you can get for 20-30 dollars
LOVE my HydroFlask! My boss and I had like a 5 minute conversation about how great they are and how much we love ours. I recommend them to everyone!
+Sia 😂😂😂 anytime I see someone with a Hydro Flask, I always try to bond over it. They're just too great.
Where did you get your necklace? I love it!!!!
Soo true mattress toppers are a gift from the gods!
Lol I swear I never win giveaways 😂 but another great video
Me tooo
Me too even when I try so hard
What vanity mirror do you use? I am looking to buy one before I go back to college in 2 weeks :)
I love how real you are
I've noticed these are also really good tips for everyday life.
I'm from Hawaii and omg I loooooove hydro flasks, more people need to use them
I have a rack thing on top of the back tire of my bike and I strap my backpack to it when I'm going places
Actually that's a lie I'm a senior in high school but I feel like it would be useful??
This video is so cool! I just made a video like this on my channel after completing my first semester at MIT. We share a lot of similarities and differences!
I'm a junior in high school binge watching "what to take to college" videos
My mom and I had that EXACT same exchange about a bed topper but now I sleep better at school than home lol

If you're starting a job, you're already on the right track. Open up a bank account and always put your paycheck directly into it, or keep a money box or something and put it on there if you can't go to the bank on your own. Continue doing this for the rest of your high school career. Also talk to your guidance counselor(s) about any and all scholarship opportunities. You probably won't be able to do anything about scholarships until later in high school, but keep it in mind. You might qualify for financial aid scholarships, or, if you keep your grades up in high school, there's always going to be scholarship opportunities. Extracurriculars can also get you scholarships, so keep a record of what activities you're involved in, and if you're good at something stick with it and focus on it. My school has a theatre scholarship, you can get them through many types of sports, you can often get them through music or visual art programs, basically anything you're interested in you can figure out something. Hopefully this gives you some kind of starting point. If you're passionate about it and work hard (don't stress yourself out too much or spread yourself too thin though) you'll be fine.
Kiki C thank you so much, I will definitely save my money and when I can get a bank account I will.

+Lovelyn Contreras thank you so much! You're so sweet 😊
Hydroflasks are my favorite water bottles now too! My entire family was using them long before I was, but then when I finally started using it I never looked back, I take mine with me everywhere, seriously the best investment lol
+Danielle M I know, right?! It's a little bit more expensive, but once you have one, you just can't go back. Glad to see another supporter hehe 😊
You deserve so much more subs! I love your two college dorm hauls and half of the views are probably mine's haha
+Heyitzmekelly awww thank you so much! And I'm so glad that you liked them that much hehe 😊😉
Most of these aren't a necessity. Really just check to see what your dorm room has, what your roommates are bringing, and of course your budget. Really sort through the needs and wants, like mattress topper vs headphones
Both are wants.
Hydro-flask? So like a thermos, right? It sounds a lot like thermos. People in New York use this all the time
Are swell waterbottles the same quality as a hydro flask?
Where did you get your necklace?!
Do a video about your hair! I love it and you so much 💕
congratulations ivy
My mom already started yelling at me for "going crazy" with college shopping and all I had in the cart was a makeup organizer and trashcan.
I luvvv my hydro flask so much
Where is your makeup mirror from?
My classes for the fall are only in two buildings (behavioral sciences & mathematics and sciences) and my apartment complex is across the street form my college and my job is right next to my apartment complex so every thing is really close luckily
Moving in Sunday/Monday
I am obsessed with hydroflasks!!
what is the brand of your light up mirror?
klean Kanteen is popular in northern Cali
I'm going to be a freshman in college this is helpful
Lol the *cough* jacob part! :)
Shame on you Jacob 😂😂 loved the video btw xoxo💕
What about a printer or a mini fridge

BOSE ARE THE BEST
