    Instead of buying an iron a cheaper alternative is hanging the things you need straightened into the bathroom with you during your shower, the steam works out the wrinkles so it saves time and money, I learned this trick from a dance teacher about a costume!

      Dandanpong Yeah, my older sister (finished with college) bought one when she started and she still uses it. You can buy a small compact one, and then you don't need a large clunky ironing board.

    I just finished my sophomore year in college and there were a LOT of things I wish I brought and wish I didn't bring. I wish I bought a water filter too, our school's water was really foggy, and I was deathly afraid of drinking it or using it for making coffee or hot chocolate. It would have saved me so much. Also, something I did have and I advise everyone to get is bug traps and/or bug spray like Raid. My college is surrounded by a wooded area and bugs (especially ants) liked to make appearances in my and my friends' dorm rooms. I had ant traps and Raid ready in my dorm both freshman and sophomore year and it SAVED me.
    Something I wish I didn't bring was all of my DVDs and ALL of my clothes. I didn't watch any of my DVDs, and they took up so much space. Also, I barely had room for all of my clothes, so I decided to switch out my clothes everytime I went home. It saved me a lot of space.
    Good luck to anyone starting college for the first time in the fall! I hope my post was useful!!

    • @zoehumphreys3762
      @zoehumphreys3762 9 лет назад +1

      BeMyGuest A good way to save room and bring all the DVDs you want it to put all of them in a CD case! Best decision I've made!

    • @BeMyGuest343
      @BeMyGuest343 9 лет назад

      yeah I planned on doing that! I couldn't find a CD case anywhere near me, so I went with a pink container that could fit all of them. I should start looking for one, thanks!!

    • @pandaloranne
      @pandaloranne 9 лет назад

      BeMyGuest Hey, I had your same problem with the DVD's and I found myself a DVD case at Target for cheap. Plus, it fits a lot of them, so go check em out there! By the way, your idea of getting Raid helps me because I never thought of getting that, so thanks!

    • @BeMyGuest343
      @BeMyGuest343 9 лет назад

      ***** of course no problem!! the thing with the DVDs also is that I never had time to watch them either, so they just sat there collecting dust

    Bring a full set of dish ware! You won't need more than one but like a bowl, plate, cup, mug, and utensils was definitely something I needed and had to buy once I got to school. My dining hall was right downstairs but I ended up using all of those very very frequently either for food I had delivered or if I made ramen or instant oatmeal or something :)

    • @JenniferJiang2013
      @JenniferJiang2013 9 лет назад

      Hannah Michelle I like bringing 2 cups just because if one is being washed then I have another. If I'm also having a friend over and need a cup it's great to have that.

    Great alternative to paper bowls/utensils for taking food away from the dining hall is a tupperware container and metal utensils. You don't have to keep buying more, environment friendly and it's easy to transport your food and keep it protected from dust and the elements if you're ever walking outdoors with it.

  • @melodye14
    @melodye14 9 лет назад +18

    A shower caddy can still be good if you're in a suite. You're sharing with 4 people usually, there isn't that much room for everyone's stuff.

  • @thecraftlizard
    @thecraftlizard 9 лет назад +16

    Instead of paper bowls just buy a set of tupperware/plastic containers and utensils so you can microwave, refrigerate, and store your dining hall munchies more easily (plus, more environmentally friendly)

    Yeah, getting stuff at the end of the year is great. A lot of seniors were giving away or selling stuff at my school too and it had never occurred to me that that was possible. Great way to get stuff for cheap and a great way to help your friends.

    this august will be my sophomore year in college and one thing I would say to help you pack your clothes is to pack it by season! It helps with space and you're most likely not going to be wearing that winter coat in the beginning of the school year anyways. Also, the Brita filter is a must!! or get those water bottles with the built in Brita filter. super helpful :')

  • @alexr3436
    @alexr3436 9 лет назад +10

    Question for anyone out there...I'm starting college in August and a lot of my clothes happen to be workout clothes; among those, about half of my shirts are t-shirts I bought or won at track and field invitational meets that I competed at in high school. I'm not planning on taking any high school memorabilia, but do these count and will I be judged? 😂 thanks!!!

  • @Kercinogen

    Lysol wipes are a must have. Between sleepovers and sticky sandwiches, your room will be dripping with dust and germs. Lol. I also found candles very soothing when studying. Another thing is medication and first aid. Make sure you have alcohol swabs and bandaids, even though there's probably a emergency team or health centre, you never know. Oh. And get fabric sheets for when you're doing laundry. I always forget them. Best of luck!

    Great video! In regards art type supplies, if you're an education major (Early Childhood/elementary), you will need some school/art supplies. Also, a Keurig or coffee machine is a must, at least where I went to college, because the dining halls weren't open all night and yep, my friends and I loved a cup of hot tea or coffee, even at midnight. 😊

      My family also couldn't afford college..so my older sister kept up good grades and did extra curricular activities during high school and because of that she got a Grant and her first year of university was FREE! Also try scholarships..there are so many you can apply for and they're pretty easy! Also financial aid (FAFSA) is very very helpful, basically it takes your parent(s) income and depending on how much they make, the government will give you money to put towards college.
      Don't lose hope and stay positive because it is possible you just have to work harder than some others but that's never a bad thing!
      I'm personally going to community college for a year or 2 and then transferring just so it saves some money! :)
      Good luck!

    I am watching the playlist with all your college videos and I'm in the class of 2022 but this is so helpful. just a quick question, is there a specific thing that you have to wear for each major?

      @ForeverHungerGames19 8 лет назад +4

      In college, it all depends on what you're involved in. People regularly show up in sweatpants, t-shirts, and flip flops to class. However, if you're involved in clubs, Greek life, or anything that requires you to dress up business casual, then you do. But there is no actual clothing policy.

    Hey so I am going to be a business major this fall and I was wondering if you have to wear business clothes to class. Or if I need to bring business closes for like presentations and such.

    • @Katherout
      @Katherout  9 лет назад +1

      Juliet Dazzle you should definitely invest in a suit at some point and bring business casual clothes because your classes may or may not require you to wear them for presentations but you'll go to events that require it

    Some people benefit more from taking notes on their computer! Not everyone of course, but I have arthritis and prefer the ease of editing and organising my notes on a computer.
