I moved to another country for college and I had to fit all my life in a suitcase and a carry on. These are the things I would recommend: - Take a pocket knife that at least has a screwdriver, wine opener and bottle opener. This really comes in handy. - If you love a specific brand of products I would suggest checking to see if they are available in your new country. If they aren't available than buy them in bulk or ask someone to ship them to you. (This was one of my biggest mistakes) - Only bring clothes and shoes that you actually wear. I only brought 4 pairs of footwear (combat boots, flats, high heels, sneakers) and I massively decreased my closet to only 50 lightweight items.( You can always do a garage sale and get some money back from the clothes you don't wear.) Keep in mind that there are a lot of stores anywhere you go and you can always buy something on the spot. - Check the weather conditions for the whole year not only the month you arrive and bring weather appropriate clothes. - Don't bring too many sentimental things with you. - Multitasking products and clothing items are the key. - Space bags will save your life.
also a really good tip is that if you don't already use or wear it at home, you're most likely not going to in college. i brought so many clothes with me that i never wore at home and at the end of the school year i had a bin full off clothes that i never touched lol i loved this video & i could relate to so many of the things you said :)
Your college videos have been realllllly helpful to me! I'm moving in 2 weeks and every time I RUclips search something....you have a vid on it! Love it! xx
haha reminds me that I had bought a desk before moving into my new apartment and then had to return it because it didnt fit! I recommend a measuring tape and taking the dimensions of your room before buying any furniture :P
I'm starting college (in Belgium) on september 21st and I'm so excited! This video is so helpful for me so thank you for making it! I love all your videos, especially your vlogs :) xxx
Hey Annemarie! Thanks for your super helpful videos! I was wondering if you could do a video or just give me tips on how to pack for an out-of state school? Like, what to take and how to pack it if you're flying by plane (also what you did about your bike, haha) and what you recommend getting there instead of back at home! I'm from Southern California and I'm going to the University of Hawaii...I've never even been to Hawaii, but I know you have, haha-I really have no clue about what to do! Anyway, thanks a bunch!
Definitely bring the teddy bear or baby blanket! I think everyone one my small freshman hall had some kind of one. No need to change your routine to look cool- everyone wants a comfort from home
I started my senior year of high school on July 30 :-)))))) But it's actually been so great so far! I have 5 AP classes and office assistant during 4th period so I can show new students around and choose which lunch I want to eat everyday :)
I have slept with a stuffed animal my entire life and I brought one with me and got another while at college. If I hadn't, it would have been difficult. If you are used to having a blanket/stuffed animal with you, absolutely bring it. Chances are, your roommate will too.
I WANT THAT BLANKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or I at least want to feel it. I LOVE SOFT THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOFTY WOFTY!
My favourite thing about this was how you had to specify that the tea was hot 😂 like I sat there for ages going sure why would your tea not be hot 😝 #ismaithliomtae
You're so beautiful and wonderful I love your videos so much! I'm heading to Stanford in the fall and it's kind of far away, like 8 months but this video is already so helpful. ❤️ :)
This video is so cool! I just made a video like this on my channel after completing my first semester at MIT. We share a lot of similarities and differences!
Can you make a video on AP classes transfer to college? Another useful video would be how college students decide what classes to take or organize their schedule.
I was actually thinking about getting a mini fridge but I was wondering about how much will I use it too. I'm not sure I still want to see how big my room will be.
Xandra I did for a while but I actually ended up getting a water dispenser and they would deliver 5 gallon jugs of water each month! But I did use the Brita before I got it :)
Its so rare in the UK to share a room at university and increasingly rare to have to share a bathroom. So all of your experiences with having to share a room seem so alien to me applying to British uni.
Hi~~ I will be studying at USC for Freshman this year n will be living at Fluor Tower. Wanna ask which dorm u lived in during ur time at USC? Any special stuff to pay attention to? Tks! Btw nice videos!
I still have about 4 more years till college since I'm class of 2021 but I'm still here :/ Maybe because my school wants me to know who I am, what I want to be, and what college I want to go to. Probably not but y'know
I'm really late for watching this but I want to go to a big university but the main problem is I don't know how to ride a bike or skate either so I'm just going to have to walk everyone but I am in track so I have good stamina so I'll be okay I guess
Hello! It's really not a big deal to walk -- a lot of my friends do that! I'm just lazy & have bad ankles, so when I walk too much, my ankles get really sore, so I def prefer biking! But you will not have a problem and will probably benefit a ton from walking a lot :)
Anyone else binge watching college videos in preparation for going to college in the fall?
Yes my move in day is August 23rd and I don't want to wait too late to buy stuff
I kinda am,only I don't go to college for another 5 years
+Robert S holy crap... You are so young to worry about all this. Meanwhile, I'm freaking out. Haha...
Me!! September suddenly seems so close haha
im going into my junior year of high school atm and i have to start my college search :( i thought this year would never come

Can you make a video talking about what it's like being a business major as an introvert and your college experience as a business major?
Kelley very cool topic, I'm a college senior, business major, and introvert.
Your college videos have been realllllly helpful to me! I'm moving in 2 weeks and every time I RUclips search something....you have a vid on it! Love it!

Bring a can opener! You will need it!
Hereismytwocents2011 bring two. Have one in the kitchen and a spare one. They always break at the worst time. My backup is just on a Swiss army knife

***** You're welcome!! :) I'm glad it was helpful hehe. Thanks for watching!!
Omg when you suggested bringing a longboard, at first I thought you said to bring a lawn mower! 😂😂 I was very confused for a hot second.
I do have a meal plan and I use my mini fridge a lot. I always have drinks in there, eggs, butter, milk, and food my roommate brings back from home.
Definitely bring the teddy bear or baby blanket! I think everyone one my small freshman hall had some kind of one. No need to change your routine to look cool- everyone wants a comfort from home
Lauren Haha yes!! No one I knew actually brought one but I saw some stuffed animals accumulating in dorms over the course of the year hehe
More videos like this one pliss! WAYY TOO helpful

I was actually thinking about getting a mini fridge but I was wondering about how much will I use it too. I'm not sure I still want to see how big my room will be.
Annemarie, did u end up using your Brita filter often? Would u still recommend getting one if u opt out on the mini fridge? Thanks for the tips! 😊
Xandra I did for a while but I actually ended up getting a water dispenser and they would deliver 5 gallon jugs of water each month! But I did use the Brita before I got it :)
That was very helpful! My mom kept saying I should bring a blender to school with me lol! For once I was right! ;)
Parker Green bring one if you're going to use it often, otherwise don't bother lol
Maybe not a blender, but what about a NutriBullet or so?
Parker Green Haha! My sister brought a NutriBullet and she said she didn't use it like once. But it is all about preference and the person!
Parker Green i have a blender that i got for collegevand i used it at least once a week
Thank you!!!
+annemariechase what did you make on your ACT/SAT to attend USC?
Could you do an international student video? I would like to know how to apply for usc and what international students think, if possible. Xx
Its so rare in the UK to share a room at university and increasingly rare to have to share a bathroom. So all of your experiences with having to share a room seem so alien to me applying to British uni.
