I didn't know I NEED a new tree skirt until I watched this😂
Just found this tutorial. I bought a JUJU design for a tree skirt slightly different but i better get started on it now. I only have a 1 head embroidery machine. Oh my….what have I gotten myself into??? 45 hooping, I better kick 2 a day out! Watching the tutorial and starting tomorrow. Thank you!
Wow, you are a great teacher! I learned so much about making the tree skirt, hooping, economy tips, scan & cut instructions, and so much more. Thank you. Please keep making detailed videos!!
I love that you used all the same color fabric…it make the rest of the designs pop! Just beautiful!
Love this tree skirt!!
Oy I did a thing...I bought the pattern. I inherited my sister's Brother Quatro in May 2022, started using it in July, and bought the pattern, because of this amazing tutorial in September! You will be holding my hand through this project! Thanks!!!!
That is awesome! You're on your way! You can do it. :)
I thought I had all the "toys" until I saw Trimmer By George! Great video! New subscriber...
I was on the fence when I saw the pattern, but once I saw your completed skirt, I had to do it!! Love your color choices! It is simply gorgeous!! I am going to be realistic and aim for next Christmas as I only have a single needle....that's a lot of thread changes!!!
Girl, you must have been sewing like every minute. Last video I watched a few days ago you showed one block! I am the same way. Get her done!! Great job!
Thank You for this video. I’m especially interested in that chicken quilt hanging on the wall behind you.
That is Lori Holt's Chicken Salad quilt. I have a playlist. ruclips.net/p/PLj9pWPqHpkzL679MTtwFgSCqfIIq1fRmf
Well, I hope you're happy!!! I watched your video and was so excited, I ordered fabric, bought the Pellon, ordered the thread and have decided to get started on yet another project I have no time to do. You almost convinced me to look into a multi-needle, but I laid down until that urge passed over. Thanks for making this, you have done a great job.
Ha! I bet before it's all said and done, halfway through it, you're over at the dealer eyeballing a new multi-needle! LOL
Omg Becky, that tree skirt is soooooo beautiful. Wow, what a work of art.
I cannot imagine the fee if someone wanted to buy one from you all done. Wow. It certainly would be very expensive. It is really a wonderful beauty. Fabrics, beautiful threads, time to make all the sections etc.
You are the best teacher on you tube thanks again for a great one.
Oh Becky, I so want to make this even though my tree in only 2 ft! Both kids have large trees along with married grandson & his family so I will probably make some and gift them
Oh, that tree skirt is so gorgeous. It's beyond my skill level (quilting is new) and my resources. Besides, it's the wrong holiday for me,😁 But it's fabulous and thank you for showing it and sharing it w viewers.👍❤
I’m hoping to make this tree skirt. Your instructions are very good thanks.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to start mine!!
I was so anxious to see this embroidery pattern. You did a beautiful job. I will just have to enjoy yours because I don’t have a multi needle and 45 hoopings it would be many Christmas’s before I would finish. Love your work
Thank you!
I am finally starting mine. Only have a regular sewing/ embroidery machine and would love a multi needle! Great tips for making the tree skirt.
Wow, Becky. This really tops it all , you are really amazing. You accomplish everything so beautifully.
I just got the design. I’m great full you are doing this.
I am going to try it but probably won't be done this Christmas. Thanks so much for the videos I would even think about trying it. The videos are so helpful, the main problem with me will probably be choosing the fabrics. I love love love yours!
Becky you are amazing! I just saw your time breakdown! Makes it so easy to go back to a spot! I watch your videos many times!
Assembly line sewing is great.
You are awesome! I wish I own a multi needle, my little single needle is going to take a month of Sundays to get this done, but I know it will be well worth it ❤️❤️❤️
Same here, but I’ll be happy of its done by Xmas 😀
Thank you for a great tutorial, love all your instructional videos and projects. Downloaded your DBJJ Christmas Tree Skirt chart, am somewhat challenged at understanding how to use it (dumb me, I guess), will you do a quick video on how you use that please? Also, I'd love to buy the exact background material you used (if available), can you point me to that please? Am very new to multi needle and want to try the simplest section of this skirt... think this is a wonderful project that I'd love to complete for my children who are 2K miles from me (sadly). Keep your wonderful tutorials coming... I always look for yours as its my connection to great company. Thanks again. Donna
Beautiful as always. I am glad to see the fabrics you used. Sometimes we need to see something in different variations before we can catch the vision. You always accomplish that. Thank you.
Love it and thanks for showing the trimmer by George, 2.0, I have it.
I can't wait to start this... This is such an adorable skirt. 🎄
This is beauriful. Too much for me though. Loved seeing this video. You are sew talented, Becky.💟
I am really looking forward to doing this. As always, thank you for your guidance. All the best.
Love your videos, thank you! May I ask which batting you used? And, if the skirt will be washed, should the batting be preshrunk? I don't want a lot of puckers to appear later .... Thank you!
Can't wait to start making this 🙂
Oh man! This is gorgeous! I've promised oldest grand-daughter a tree skirt for her house this year - - but can I REALLY get this done with a single needle with my "other WANTS"? This is too gorgeous!
Not knowing your other wants.... I recommend dedicating a block a day to this project and you can get it done in 45 days on a single needle. Which puts you having it finished before Thanksgiving! Baby steps my friend!
So darn cute! Purchasing my supplies and can't wait to see more. Thank you Becky!
GORGEOUS! This is a MUST HAVE design! Thank you for your demonstration and helpful hints! 💞
I save my SNC files as fcm files in Embrilliance. I only go into canvas Workspace to ungroup a files that has 2 objects & move them closer together so they fit into a smaller space. I also change the color of the position stitch to Brother #35 which is an appliqué position stitch and can be sent from luminaire to the scan n cut directly.
So let me ask you, how do you save fcm files in Embrilliance? I've not yet been able to do that and I'm eager to know. Thanks! And thanks for the tip to save as Brother #35. I didn't know that! Sweet!
@@PowerToolsWithThread when you click the save as Becky showed, at the bottom of the window that opens it says save as svg. That line has a drop down with a number of choices when you click it. The choice immediately below svg is fcm. Click that to choose then click the save button.
You did such a gorgeous job as usual. I want to do this.
This looks like so much fun. can't wait to sew along with you.
very thorough video.
I guess you need the big embroidery machines to do this. I only have a Brother PE770. The tree skirt is incredible.
Thanks SOOOO MUCH for your tutorials!! You get right to the point, and your tutorials are so clear!!QUESTION: Insee that you use SF 101 which is listed in the pattern directions but you also mention using iron on stabilizer. Is the stabilizer in addition to the SF 101?
The iron on stabilizer is HeatNBond Lite and I used that on applique pieces if I cut them on the ScanNCut.
So organized! Thanks for all the hints, ordering this design now!
Thank you for the instructions on this. Can I make this into a quilt top?
You'd need some digitizing skills to change the quilt blocks from wedges into squares, but yes, it can be done.
I also love the chicken quilt in the background. Is that JuJu also?
I am excited about making this. Thank you so much for the tutorials, they are great. I was wondering if you had a color list of the thread that you used and if you did, may I have a copy of it?
That skirt is so cute!
I clean my iron with a dryer sheet it does get the glue off and makes it smell nice
Great teaching video. Super job.
I've been following your video for the tree skirt. Thank you!!! I just got Embrilliance and have made some of the SVG files. My question : I'm a newbie with the Brother Scan 'n Cut. I have the turquoise mat. What blade do I use with it? I see that the Turquoise blade is a rotary blade. Is that what you use? Thanks!!!
No, the standard black blade will work just fine. I save my rotary blade for things other than quilting cottons.
Wow just Wow
What a wonderful video! I just ordered the pattern from JuJu. Thanks for the link to the fabric; however it is out of stock. Is there any way you can provide a listing of the thread brand / numbers you used for each block? Thanks!!
Sorry but I just match thread colors to fabrics. I rarely, if ever, go by a specific color number. Most of my threads are from the DIME Exquisite Holiday Collection bit.ly/3PZAZ5J
Thank you Becky. sooo cute!!!
Thanks Ann!
This is adorable!
Love the video! Is the paper tape you’re using the 1” medical paper tape? Also, can you tell where you got the dispenser?
It's a dispenser put out by Kimberbell. It was a limited edition in a Bella Box. But I think they sell the orange one's on their website.
@@PowerToolsWithThread thank you, Becky!
I'm aiming to get this done for next year (2023). When you used metallic thread did you a special needle?
If you use Kingstar Metallics, no special needle is needed. It's wonderful! www.shop.dzgns.com/collections/thread/Thread_KingStar-Metallic-40wt?p=S1z1p1FgS
What size magnetatic hoop did you use with your 6X10 tree skirt? I'm guesing it was an 8x10 but the reason I'm asking is I want to to the 8x12 size and I do not see the monster snap magnetic hoop in an 8x12 size. I need to purchase one and I'm guessing I should buy the 9.5x14" hoop??? please advise as this is an expensive purchase mistake if I get the wrong size. I have the Brother Dream Machine 2. Thanks for your help.
I love your background !!! I think you said it was white blossom by Christopher Thompson by Riley Blake? Which one exactly? Tone on tone?
Love this pattern thanks Becky what fabric did you use TIA
Thank you! All fabrics are listed in the description box of the video.
The tree skirt is Awesome and I can't wait to try it. I don't have any of the Pellon SF101 Can I use the Pellon 931 instead?
You certainly can use Pellon 931, however it will make it much stiffer than SF101. If you are prepared for that, then give it a try!
This is amazing just got the pattern for it. One question you did say the no show poly mesh stabilizer. The only one I've found is the medium weight is that ok to use?
You can use any stabilizer that doesn't change the hand of your quilt top into something other than you like.
@@PowerToolsWithThread Thanks so much. Another question what color of thread did you use for your snowflakes on the first panel?
Hi Becky Thank you for helping us with this ahead of time. Can you tell me how much sf101 you used and what size you made
I wish I could be specific, but I made the fabric cuts different than the pattern to conserve fabric and I made the 6x10 size. I showed how I measured and cut each piece in the video. But... I had 7 yards of background fabric when I started, and I had 4.5 left over after I was finished. So, to be safe, let's say I used 3.5 yards of fabric. Half that, because I cut the SF101 in half, then I used approx 1.75 yards of SF101. If I were you, I'd get 2.5 just to be sure. You'll have extra but then can use that in other projects. Hope that helps!
Greeting from Oz. You have inspired me. I know it’s probably a stupid question but what size did you do the designs? 5x7? I can find it in ant comments mentioned. Thanks in advance.
It's a 6x10.
This is Absolutely Beautiful. I really want to do it, am I crazy to try this on my Bernina 830? One a day for 45 days? Is this a once a day all day long or a couple of hours each day? Thank you for all you do for us. You make it look so easy.
Once you get all your stabilizer & batting cut, you can knock out each block in 2 - 2.5 hours. Yes, definitely pace yourself to one a day and you'll be done before Halloween. :)
@@PowerToolsWithThread
Thank you so much for replying, I can’t even imagine how busy you are.
What needle did you use. I’m already to do it. Having foot surgery so I figured I could sit and start it.
I just started the Nativity Tree skirt and I know you stated in this tutorial that because the fabric stitch down line is outside the batting tack down, you can't use Trimmer by George. The fabric tack down on the tutorial for the advent calendar on some of the blocks are outside the batting tack down, but you used the Trimmer by George. Could you explain this, I'm a bit confused. Thanks
How do you add the SF101? I don't see in the video. Thanks!
Love your new tshirt. When is it available, Becky?
It’s available now. I just got mine, super excited! And nervous lol
Hi Becky, I have a Brother PR1000e, just a step below yours. I don't see the same size of magnetic hoop over on Dime.
Found it! On the dropdown menus choose: Brother, 8x12, then PR1000. tinyurl.com/3ejjtufy
When you say you print out one of the middle panels, how do you do that please? I see images in my docs but I I don't know if it will print out with the needed size. Thanks! Also, I guess I need the added program in order to see the steps articulated? Thanks
I use Embrilliance Essentials to print out my designs. They have an Express version that is free and you can print using that. Search for Express using this link. bit.ly/3RmHro3
Did you use Kingstar silver metallic for the swirls and snowflkes?
No, I used an Isacord 0151. You'll need a cone for all that stitching in every hooping. bit.ly/3TJyYx7
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!
I just bought the Designs by JuJu tree skirt. Do you know if Embrilliance is needed?
No it is not.
Which dime magnetic hoop do you have on your machine? I have a venture and trying to work out which one is suitable for the multi needle. Your tree skirt looks awesome 👏
I have the one from DIME and I'm linking here. Choose your brand of machine and I for the size, I highly recommend getting the largest one. They are expensive and you don't want to limit yourself by spending a lot and then not being able to use it for something like the tree skirt where you really need it. bit.ly/3QtHZYY I'm hosting a DIME Block Party this Tuesday and if you do the free registration for that, you can get a deal on DIME products that's a better price then just online. You have 48 hours to use the discount code from the DIME event after Tuesday but you have to register to get the discount code. inspiredbydime.com/products/block-party-virtual-embroidery-event-37
Congratulatios❣️
Is there a video of this beautiful tree skirt being done with a single needle machine?
Someone may do one someday, but I'm not aware of any right now. The process is the same but you just have to change thread colors manually.
Hi there Becky! I hope that you see this and can respond.....I am going to be making this tree skirt and I have a fairly large hoop for my multi-needle machine. With the table installed, I have a hoop that is approx. 25"w x 16" tall and doing the 6x10 size skirt, I can actually fit 7 of the "inner" pieces on one hooping. I set it up in Embrilliance and I did a color sort (but it needs more tweaking) BUT I was thinking "maybe this is a BAD idea" by having all of these at one time on one hooping. Can you let me know your thoughts. Im planning to test out my machine to make sure that it will pick up where I would leave off on a design once turned back on. I dont have a Name Brand Machine....its a China Multi-Needle. Ive had a 12 needle for almost 2 years and have very little trouble with it.....and just recently bought this massive 15 needle with a 400mm x 600mm sewing field....so I was thinking why not group them all and kill 7 birds with 1 stone =) Let me know your thoughts on this.....good or bad idea!
Well? Trial by fire! Color sorting will work but you'll also need to make sure you get it set so that all the placement lines for all 7 stitch at once, then all the tack down lines, then all the final satin stiches, etc. That way you don't have to do all of that 49 times lol. j/k But you'll want to order the stitch outs so that you only have to put down one long piece of batting across the entire hoop. And of course, you do that by changing all the placement lines to their own color, tack downs to their own color, etc. Then color sort. You can probably do 2-3 middle blocks at once. Good luck!
@@PowerToolsWithThread Haha....YES, I love Embrilliance and have done many color sorts so that I can do things more efficiently....kind of like how you did your Bookmarks. I just would hate to "waste" my time and get all the way to the end and have a failure! LOL
I suppose as long as the batting and fabric tack down go as planned, I should be good to go. What I would probably do is LEAVE all the fabric on there after its put down (the batting I will trim because I should...or maybe I could leave it and trim it at the end? It would be a little more work at the end.....this way I can take pins and secure all of the fabric in place so that all of the following stitching (applique and fill) wont stretch or pucker! I am going to use the SF101
@@dcrosby1972 It would be very efficient in your method to precut all your applique pieces. Might be worth a ScanNCut purchase! (Or use Embrilliance to create svg files out of the placement lines). But if you could program all the placement lines for applique to stitch at one time across the entire hoop, then remove the hoop and iron them all down. In the middle blocks there's not an equal number of applique pieces in all the blocks so you'd have to work it out in your head, but it could be done. You got this!
Becky, I made my first block yesterday! BTW, which 10 needle embroidery machine do you recommend that is reasonable?
Congrats! That's awesome! One down, 44 to go! lol Reasonable...OK, so a 10 needle is not a 10 needle is not a 10 needle. You know I'm a Brother girl and that's because I like the Brother interface that is so user friendly, it likes my current thread stock of Isacord and Exquisite, I love the wireless capabilities of it, I love the quilting table & there are DIME Monster Snap Hoops for it. All that makes it the perfect machine for me. The Baby Lock multi-needle performs the same. I had another 7-needle and I just couldn't get the hang of it because it didn't have the Needle +/- button so I could back up a certain number of stitches or easily put in stops for applique designs. I found I rarely used it because of that so I sold it and got the Brother, which I should have gotten in the first place. Well, hubs bought the other machine without consulting me and I knew it wouldn't last long. There's a popular one that comes up in RUclips commercials a lot that has very negative reviews on RUclips so I really recommend doing your research. If you think you found one you might purchase, do an online search for reviews of that machine. I'd look for a floor model or a trade-in refurb from a Brother dealer if it were me.
@@PowerToolsWithThread thank you so much. I bought a Flourish ll. Wonderful machine but changing thread constantly is a pain. I’m not sure how much your machine cost, but I’m sure more than I can afford. Lol
Hi, so appreciate your videos. Thank you. I do have a question. What color bobin.?
I just used a white bobbin thread.
Thanks so much. I'm doing the farm Xmas tree skirt pattern, but I've changed all the main blocks to christmas at the beach. Wish me luck.
Question - why sf 101? Getting ready to start the tree skirt and don’t see where the instructions say use SF101. I know heat n bond for the appliqué. Thanks for getting back to me
The 'recommendation' to use SF101 is on page 2. It will give the foundation fabric more stability to handle the heavy satin stitching without any puckering. Feel free to use whatever works for you! :)
@@PowerToolsWithThread - thanks Becky. I must have missed it. I have a whole bolt of it
I think it would of been more helpful to show the basics, and let everyone do their own upgrading. For instance: most don't own a multi-thread machine.
can i make this skirt without using the Embrilliance software and never did applique before will I have problems, thanks
You sure can! You don't need any software to make this project.
What type of batting are you using for this, I don't see it in the description?
I used an 80/20 from loftsupply.com
I just started stitching out the designs. I also have a 10 needle and was wondering if you had to change the needle for stitching metallic thread? If you did which needles did you use?
No, I didn't change the needles at all for metallics. Honestly, I'm still using the original needles in the machine. The ones that came with are HAX130EBBR #11.
@@PowerToolsWithThread Thank you.
Do you have a sample of the fabric you used for the applique. Im not very good at picking fabric. Also an using the Floriani thread colors shown
There are suggested fabrics that I would use in the Description box of the video. Thanks for watching!
If I am usingyour colors which I think look elegant, how much of each color will I need? Is that a fair question?? Sorry! I just don'e want to underbuy or over buy
Can this be stitched out with a single needle?
Absolutely!
I have a single needle machine and I understand it will take me longer but this can still work with it correct?
Yes absolutely! You just have to change threads manually but otherwise, the process is the same. Have fun!
I cannot find the chart for checking off the blocks on your blog - where exactly is it please?
I only have a single needle…is this too big a project for me?
While this is a big project, yes, you absolutely can do this on a single needle machine. I've seen ladies in our FB group who sewed more than one last year on a single needle!
Do you know of a way to save the "print file" to a thumb-drive. and have all blocks and color charts printed by a print shop? My printer does NOT print does not do a very good job with the print-outs. Thanks.
What is your ironing board? Like that!
My husband cut a piece of plywood and covered it for me and it sits on an IKEA Hemness dresser. I wanted the top to be big enough to press a fat quarter (18x22).
Is using Terial Magic on your fabric the same as using Pellon SF101? In other words could you use Terial Magic instead of Pellon SF101?
Great question! Not necessarily. Terial Magic provides a stiffing agent to the fabric, but the SF101 provides a solid foundation to resist pull compensation from embroidery stitching. Terial Magic would be great to stiffen applique fabric for a cutting machine, but you really need SF101 if you'll have heavy satin stitching on a fill like on the Santa, reindeer, snowmen, gifts, and stars that are in this design.
When doing the blocks with applique, do you take the hoop out and iron down each fabric piece before the satin stitching?
Yes, that's the way of applique.
Are the blue stars part of the fabric, or part of the embroidery design?
The blue stars are embroidered.
I have a Brother 1000e, 10 needle. You do this tree skirt on your 1055, How do you do the threads with only 10 places for colors? Do you need to change colors somewhere along the line?
I put the threads that are used in almost every block on the back thread spool row closest to center (white, black, red, green, etc.) and I use the outer front 2-3 spools on each side to do thread changes once all of the first 10 colors have been used. So let's say all 10 have been used and now I need a color 11. I typically use spool # 9 or #2 (closest to me to reach so it's easier to change). Before that color stitches, I put a Hand up on the screen so the machine stops, then I put that new color I'm going to use in a holding pattern on my table. I will line up as many more colors in order of use in the holding pattern. Whenever they will be used next, I make sure to put a hand on that spool so I can change it as I get there. I hope that makes sense. Perhaps I'll do a video to explain if I can get a moment.
What batting did you use? I didn’t see it listed.
I have 2 questions: when you cut the fabric and the SF101 it appears they are cut across the grain of the fabric rater with the grain line. Is this not a concern? What size needle did you use for the embroidery machine...I have a single needle Brother Dream Machine. I love your videos. I do not have a magnetic frame? is this necessary? Thank you!! you are awesome!!!!
I bought a Sew Tech 6x10 frame for my DM on Amazon. You do not need a magnetic frame. The instructions say to only hoop the no show stabilizer, and the batting and fabric are taped on top. No hooping !
why does the thread colors drastically change (snowmen are black and orange) in Embrilliance when I change thread from Floriani to Isacord?
Maybe this has been answered, but I have not seen it. Why do you need to use the no show mesh AND the SF101?
