I can see how professionals reach for compressor replacement rather than trying to replace only the pulley bearing or clutch. It is often very hard to find parts, extra delays for that, no guarantee it will work, and extra labor to redo the job again if that doesn't work. Worst of all, the shop gets a reputational black eye if the customer has to come back. In the amateur world, I don't pay for labor, I don't worry about waiting, and I'm willing to myself a break if I have to do the job twice. So if the pulley is the problem, I would approach this differently, trying to avoid paying for evacuation, receiver dryer, O-rings, line purge, recharge, oil, etc. Respect and understand both ways.

Talk about making bank the flat-rate way! ;^)

Just an FYI to people who don’t know I just did this repair and you can put this compressor in and then take it somewhere to get the freon recharged. I was told it will not harm the car to run it without Freon

How did you evacuate the Freon

Is it a DIY job? Can this be done at home? I don't have the vaccum machine.

I have a 2004 Avalon and need to know what the bolt size is in the middle of the AC clutch. Mine fell out.

Any possibility to just replace the clutch? No vacuuming the system, cheaper and less time; it worked for me!

What causes the compressor light inside the the 06 Avalon cab to be on then flash after about five seconds? Thank you in advance👍🏻

on my 06 Avaolon it's because the A/C is too low on Freon, so it prevents to compressor from engaging

Can compressor just be removed from under the car instead of removing alternator?

Wait. You unbolt things. Do you also unscrew things? Do some of the bolts have nuts? Do you unnut those? I guess you reverse the order putting them back in with a simple bolt, screw, nut on?

He charged you $250 to install an AC compressor. Bro you got stung in that. It takes like half an hour to swap compressors. Took me like 10 mins on my VW, but I think you gotta take out the alternator on Toyotas to access the compressor. With a VW you have to take out the compressor to reach the alternator. Still an easy job despite and if you dont know what you're doing might take you an hour.
