I learned a lot. I like how the updated condenser made it easier to install. That guy had some impressive wrench skills too turning it over by feel and hitting it right on without fumbling around. I think you could probably get away with using that same method on most cars. Saves having to drain all the coolant. Most DIY'ers don't have the tools to do A/C repair. Watching you guys work on A/C is a pleasure and learning experience. Thank you.
Thank so much for putting this up. Very interesting. I felt like I was there, but without the stinky oil smells!!! Now I understand how all the parts fit together! :)! May not do this repair myself, especially with ac evac needed, but it will help me figure out what the mechanic is talking about!!! Really loved the dye glasses and light demo!!! And showing the screw detail work was great too! Alot of times this is just left out, leaving it all still a mystery!!!
I use to work under the commercial department for a anonymous auto part store (now I'm a driver for the hub). I've seen the insides of many auto-shops yet the only guys I would bring my own car to are the guys that use "1-800-Radiator". I knew about their other auto-parts they sell (I think they sell heater cores and evaporators too) but I didn't know their national, that's cool! Great place!!! Like the tamper seals too, good idea!
Great video by an experienced mechanic. Maybe, it would have been better to remove both the condenser and the tube if they would come out together. Then, you might have had better luck getting them apart.
I agree, ANY A/C system home auto or other, that is opened should have filter/ Dryer changed and checked with nitrogen before being recharged. Thats the first thing I thought after I watched this. Now any moister that is in that system will stay in there eventually turning to acid, because the dryer is now saturated.
I liked the diagnostic thinking, always looking for rubs and complicating factors. Some day, if you can show us how you flush the system and test for leaks it would help. Not knowing any shortcuts, I would have replaced the dryer.
You don't need a special light or glasses when you can put ur finger over a hole in condenser and fill it shooting out the freon lol which was my case. Sure it could of had a leak somewhere else but I just changed the condenser no orfice evaporater and charged it with a can 2 1 pound cans from Wally world and Bam freezing air. Now my question is by doing it this way should I have any worries or did I just waist money and down the road something else is going to go bad
Hello my friend I just seen your video of very excellent video very informative I have a question that maybe you can help me with I have a 2004 Toyota Avalon that I just received a year ago I had never used the AC until this year when I turn the AC on on a Thursday I noticed the temperature started going up the following day went out again and the temperature went up but this time it went really high I shut the AC off it dropped back down to normal then it went back up again anyways I was told I had a blown head gasket I took it in they fix the head gasket car runs beautiful quiet smooth everything I recently tried to turn the AC on again and I noticed the temperature started going back up again I notify the mechanic he said that is the main problem will cause a head gasket to blow in the first place can you please give me any idea why the car just overheats only when I turn the AC on both fans do go on cool it looks good can you please help me have any ideas with it maybe thank you so much
hello, sorry for the delay. From what you have said I would suspecting of two things, or possibly both. Sure a head problem could cause the overheating but since you have had that fixed I would rule that out. When you turn on your AC your second cooling fan should automatically switch on. If it doesn't it can easily overheat. That's why you have a second cooling fan. The when the AC is on it increases the load on the engine. Load increases work, work increases heat. The second cooling fan is there to offset that extra heat. Keeping with the thought of AC increases load which increases work which increases heat means the radiator must also work harder. The radiator does not have a second stage to help. It simply must use the full capacity to keep up with the increased heat. If, and I repeat if, the radiator is restricted internally and you are not getting full flow thru the radiator, that could also contribute to the overheating. The cooling fan needs an electrical diagnosis. The radiator needs a thermal imaging diagnosis. I have a video on that if you need it. Good luck.
I did my 2004 chevy Impala 3 years ago and I am about to do it again. It seems pretty similar, but I don't remember much. The 2 fans are in one housing
Customers be like... Brake pads worn down to the rivets? Timing belt over due by 50k? It's fine don't touch it. My A/C doesn't work and it's June? FUCK I GOTTA GET THAT SHIT IN
When replacing the condenser and drier, how much, if any oil do you add to the system? It seems to me some of the oil in the system would have been lost when the old parts were replaced.
Vehicles with the A/C Condenser in front of the radiator (like this vehicle), tend to collect huge amounts of insects and other debris over time. I assume this makes the AC system run less efficient and hotter. Is it okay to blow this debris out of the condenser with shop air or high pressure water from the back side of the condenser to the front of the vehicle? Great video as always and great tip on a quality after market parts vendor!
Although the dye is designed to work with the A/C system, the dye isn't the problem. The air you need to flush out before you can charge the system. It needs to be under a vacuum before you charge so theirs nothing but refrigerant flowing through the lines when you do.
@@sandyseymour6195 No, I'm unfamiliar with European cars. If I had to take a guess I would say it's low on refrigerant it needs to be topped off. If it's too low/high the safety pressure switches will not allow the AC system to work. Your safest bet is to take it somewhere.
Yes they are pretty much all aluminum but keep in mind, the condenser is only part of what makes the a/c cold. Have your system checked to be sure it's operating right
I replaced my A/C condenser, and dryer and compressor with ones from the junkyard and filled it with oil and gas, but didn't evacuate the system of air, and one time when i was using it the A/C clutch started smoking so I disabled it and haven't used it since.
Sure it could be a contributing factor but probably not the single cause. It is probably the other way around. That is, your cooling system is not very efficient and causing the engine to run hotter than normal, and thereby causing the a/c system to work too hard and straining the condenser too much. Hope this helps.
Your compressor seized due to the moisture introduced when you didn't draw down a vacuum (and I assume you also didn't replace the accumulator/drier). You'll need to replace the compressor and should at least flush the A/C system (or replace the condenser and possibly evaporator) as you probably has debris in the system. When you replace the compressor, ensure you add the correct amount of oil in it for your system. Check the car's service manual. And replace the drier and pull a vacuum.
Looks easier to just pull out the radiator completely with the fans on. No unplugging anything and just for extra screws underneath you need to take out.
uhhmm.. except the fact that you would then have to drain all the coolant, disconnect the radiator hoses. Then re-installing the radiator hoses, re-filling the cooling system, bleed the cooling system and making sure you now don't have any coolant leaks anywhere.
Great video, but I just want to leave a comment I can't understand when people replace these radiators or when they disconnect the hoses how come nobody puts rags in the radiators? Or even clamp down the hoses so the antifreeze or at least most of it won't drop around the engine parts. I think it would be a cleaner job if people would stuff rags with the radiator hose were in the lower in the bottom again so that none of the antifreeze or at least a little tiny bit will drip around. I could never understand why people don't do that. Because radiator fluid will take the paint off and will corrode everything around it etc, you have to wash everything down afterwards all that radiator fluid off of all the external parts I mean. There's ways to do these jobs but you got to be clean but I've seen so many videos not yours necessary but a lot of them how all the radiator fluid goes everywhere along the engine and it's just so dirty looking you could be clean when you do a job
@@realfixesrealfast no don't take it personal because I thought it was a great job I just meant to say that I think it would be a little bit easier way to keep things cleaner with that antifreeze because I saw so many videos online that they just let it pour out everywhere and I think maybe some rags could stuff in the radiator and some hose clamps and stuff alrighty thanks again I appreciate it

Hi my ac dont work the clutch of compresor dont engage some body told me is the condenser they have a leak is this the problem why the clutch dont engage tank you
Crispin Alarcón It might be the compressor relay, on the fuse box under the hood.
