  • This video is a follow up to my GT54 Best SideVu / Side Imaging setting video. It will be ran that same exact way where i will list the settings that i use.
    PLEASE keep in mind that the down imaging settings are much more sensitive to things like water clarity and depth. These can change a lot while you are out on the water. But the goal is the same with down imaging as it is with side imaging. You want the most detail without blowing out the bottom/water column with brightness.
    If you haven't already please hit that subscribe button and give this video a thumbs up, it is very much appreciated and lets me know what kind of content you guys like to see!

    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    For some reason my Gt54 started showing wrong depth. I'm cruising at around 7 kn and suddenly my garmin starts saying i'm at depth of 2 feet and alarm starts going off. I'm probably at a depth of 200 feet. any idea why this started happening? as i got to shallower water, under 125 feet, it worked good again except 1 time when i got into really shallow water about 15 feet, then it showed about 2 feet again for a few moments. One thing to note and I don't know if it has anything to do with it is that there was TON of pollen all over the lake, i mean LOTS everywhere.

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 года назад

      most of the time when you are in water that deep and it starts flashing very shallow depths, it has lost the bottom.
      There is a setting in there that kind of aids the unit in telling it where the bottom might be. I believe its called "Bottom search limit" say the search limit is set to less than 200' and you are over 200' it will kind of error out and flash a much shallower depth because you are telling it that the bottom should be in less than 200'

      As far as these settings, 5’ will need different settings compared to 25’ compared to 50’

    Do you have a video on traditional/2d sonar?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  Год назад +1

      Not as of yet, at least for settings but as a rough guideline,
      Gain adjust for depth - deeper requires more gain
      Scroll speed auto
      Color gain +2 to +3
      Tvg depends on depth as well. Deeper =higher tvg
      Interference low to med

    I just saw this vid about scroll speeds. Could you do a test on this? ruclips.net/video/8Q1YpiwYsgU/видео.html. I thought it was supposed to match boat speed? I troll at 1-2 mph and have mind set to 1. He says set it to 7?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 года назад +1

      The reason people will increase the scroll speed (a lot of guys run them at 10 on the 54) is to “stretch” the image. This will make fish appear bigger on the screen and in some cases be easier to see.
      I feel that it just distorts the picture a lot and makes everything harder to see
      Which is why i recommend using auto speed, as the unit will self adjust to the correct scroll speed for the speed of the boat

    • @LetsCrappieFish
      @LetsCrappieFish 2 года назад

      @@MGMarineTech Yeah, he says it gives a more accurate reading.?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 года назад +1

      @@LetsCrappieFish yeah I don’t necessarily buy that at all…
      I can see a use for increasing the scroll speed more than is required, but I don’t like how it looks (everything is stretched and highly distorted)
      But go out and play with it at a steady speed and see what you think

    • @LetsCrappieFish
      @LetsCrappieFish 2 года назад

      @@MGMarineTech I do fine with it on 1 haha. I was just wondering about it.

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 года назад +2

      @@LetsCrappieFish that’s all that matters is that you are happy with the results.
      That’s what I’ve always seen as to why people say they run it high.
      Again I let the unit do the work and adjust speed as necessary. At 1-2 mph it’s probably in that 1-2 range and when you speed up scouting for a place to 3-5 it will bump it up for you and you don’t have to dig into the menus.
