Very nice, I shot the VP9 for the first time a couple months ago and I felt like I couldn't miss. Thank you for being one of the few showing us some. 40's. Everyone seems to be on the 9mm bandwagon. Everybody including me loves the soft shooting 9mm but most of the time I like to have some real. 40 cal. power at my side. Finally Subscribed

We are living in difficult times - ammunition is scarce especially 9 mm and 0.45 ACP in such time wise person would be looking for something that less than common - namely 0.40 S&W or 10 mm. HK VP40 most certainly one of the top choices here

+Coop Nasty The VP40 is an absolute sweetheart when it comes to recoil. I think it's partly due to some modified Browning design that HK uses. Either way, I've shot 9mm's that had more recoil than my VP40. The trigger and accuracy are amazing. You can't go wrong brother.

I've tried both other ways and using the middle finger allows me to keep my trigger finger on the slide AND it doesn't changed grip at all. Sootch give it a try! I think you'll like it.

    Awesome review Sootch00.
I love the Glocks. All different models. I finally bit the bulket and bought the Zev Dragonfly in 40. OH my gosh!!! That was the scariest pistol I've ever shot. I had shooters try it to make sure it was not me. Everyone agreed. Recoil was horrendous, could not regulate let off of trigger. SCARY. I sold it half cost, did not hold uts value.
NOW. HK VP40. I purchased day I sold the Dragonfly. HK felt better in hand. Assembly and design is fabulous. Firing the postol is a dream. It recoils like a 9mm. Accurate, reliable, and i bought a couple of the HK mag extensions. So I have 18 rounds of 40.
Best 40 I have ever owned. Beats the Dragonfly and the SigP229. Along with other Glock 40's.
I'd like one in 10mm as well. For backup hunting pistol. Although, the Smith 1006 (both of them) just didnt like at all. The Peter Stahl Omega was a jam a matic in 10mm. So i dropped the 10 altogether due to unreliable pistols at the time, and carried 50 Desert Eagle as my hunting backup.
    Keep up great review Sootch00

Why would you go with a .40 over 10mm? You can always get 10mm rounds that will give the equivalent of max .40 cal power or softer. You'll never get .40 cal that will perform at max 10mm power.

I don't think Glock 40 caliber's where shoehorned into 9 mm. I think it's the other way around. The 9 mm was shoehorned into a 40 caliber. And they are not really made for 40 caliber. I wish Glock would come up with a 40 somewhere between the size of a Glock 17 and a Glock 21 (made for 40 like the m&p, usp, vp40, beretta 96A1. ). I don't think the Glock 23 will last as long as a Glock 19 but I still love them and have them.

My biggest problem with it is where the magazine release is located. Why put it essentially as part of the trigger guard? Just seems like a bad idea to me.

I wish hk would make a drop in 357 sig conversion barrel for the vp40. I also wish they would make a vp40sk. Oh well, I can dream.

I've read that the cocking wings make the gun more aerodynamic i.e making it easier to aim while doing things like base jumping and skydiving. Can you confirm? Please respond quick it's very important.

I like the Vp 40 trigger from what I've seen. The only other great polymer striker fire pistol that doesn't get enough credit is the Springfield XD 9 and 40 I love the triggers on mine. So dose my wife. That slight creep, wall then snap. Nice and crisp. I have polished the internals. But from the factory they are really nice. Most people over look one over the best out there other than glock. Still have to love the HK though.

i'd love to see the p30 texture on the front and backstrap with the vp9/p30sk texture on the side panels. would be ideal. max grip for shooting and max comfort for iwb carry

My impressions of the VP9: good but there are offerings just as good at the same price point and some that are almost as good but considerably more affordable and simpler. Got to shoot a new one a couple of weeks ago in comparison to my 4 year old, 3000-4000 rd PPQ in 9mm. Shot the VP9 just as well, but was more impressed with PPQ's smoothness. Had more problems with the ambi slide release than the PPQ's (I'm a lefty, and don't like them). I may be a little bias, but I still prefer the PPQ over the VP9. That gun might smooth up as time goes on, but it is still a much larger pistol than the PPQ without the added capacity or improved shoot-ability of a large framed pistol.

Have had my VP40 for about a year & a half now. It was my 1st H&K gun but won't be the last. If having troubles finding a holster still, safariland has paddle & belt style h ol ln stars with a tensioner screw & finger lock on the back side of the holster.

Part-1:Based on several Glowing Good Reviews - I purchased a Brand New HK VP40 on 2/29/2016 for $589.99. My first disappointment was the Painted on glow sights. They just don't glow for very long. They maybe last only 10 or 15 minutes if you are lucky before they start going dim. Then while I like the trigger and trigger safety on my Springfield XD and XDM pistols - I never have liked the thin metal trigger safety on the Glock pistols because the thin metal popping out hurts my trigger finger. The trigger safety on the HK VP40 resembles that of the Glock. Also I do not like the groove down the inside center of the trigger frame - this was done to allow the bottom of the trigger to ride in that groove. The problem is that unless you keep
your finger up high on the trigger your finger rides in the groove and that can
    be irritating and eventually painful.

Part-2: The grip area kind of feels like the new Springfield Model-2 Grip area, which is good. Although I thought having to knock the pin out at the bottom of the grip in order to change the adjustable grip pieces is a little bit of a pain in the butt to do. By the way - I opted for the Small sides and back-strap pieces, even though I would say my hand size is about medium. The little pieces that stick out on both side at the rear of the slide to help with pulling back the slide are nice, but instead it would have been better if HK would have placed S&W Third Generation style Safety/Decocker levers at the rear of the slide. This gun has no safety. It is a little dangerous having a loaded chamber on a gun that may be lying around and available for quick use in case of a break-in and used for home defense.

I like how the barrel is the same thickness as the 9mm vs just boring out the same blank wider and leaving less material.

I know that the 40 is a snappy cartridge, but how is the recoil with testing a VP40. Is it tolerable enough, does it slow down your second shot by how bad..? i have a gen3 glock 23. Can you suggest any recoil springs that may help with the recoil management of this pistol if any..?

If you put one finger on top of the slide above the rail and one finger on the rail. Press those fingers together and do you get a little lose/play feeling between the slide and the frame? Just picked up a VP40 and I noticed it right away, my glock does not do that.

Great pistol for the LE guys who need that extra barrier penetration... but it seems as if everyone is heading toward 9mm..I think the .40 already hit it's peak, and technology is equaling all self-defense cartriges.. Still happy to see manufacturers giving us options that are designed for .40 from the ground up...

Wondering your opinion on this. Do you think replacing the back plate with a solid back plate without the hole for the striker would the gun significantly more reliable or not?

  • @robertpowers9063

Shot my cousins P 30 and absolutely loved it...I own and generally like glocks but when I recently rented a VP9 I thought it was just as nice as the P30 but for 300 less. As striker fired guns go it’s about as good as it gets. I’m going to get the 9mm SK version for CC and VP40 for home defense! BTW great review!

Does anyone know if the gun has a full supported chamber? I mean the USPs in 40S&W definitely have, but in the Vp40 barrel has a different shape and a little different feeding ramp. Anyone who could publish a picture with a bullet in the barrel?

I Love your Videos. On choices of Bullets - what do you prefer - Light and fast or heavy and slow? 135 grain,155 grain, 165 grain, 180 grain? Back when 40o caliber first came out - everyone was preaching the 155 grain bullets.
