If you are also able to shed any further analysis on sleep apnea functions of these apps that would be extremely helpful and appreciated

I've been using sleep cycle for over 7 years now and I would like to see a comparison between the watch and phone app. Typically on the watch app, I rarely have a score below 60, even if I had a night with a lot of interrupted sleep because my daughter woke me up whereas with the phone app, I have score below 50 after nights were I didn't sleep well and feel really tired in the morning

I don’t know, I feel like you’re being a little generous to Apple. Considering the hardware in the watch they should easily be able to track sleep cycles comparable to Oura rings. Yet Apple’s data that they give us is extremely vague and in my opinion not that accurate based on your test here.
It’d be interesting if you did the same test but with the new Oura Ring 3 instead of an Apple Watch. Or maybe even throw in an Apple Watch 7 to compare both of them to actual scientific equipment. Since one goes on the wrist and one goes on the finger they shouldn’t interfere.
    Otherwise great video man.

It feels to me like there is a misunderstanding here: I assume that the SleepCycle team uses "light sleep" in a broader sense, including REM sleep. If the app wakes you app when in REM, it would according to them be a good outcome. According to you it would be a bad outcome because you understand their promise to wake you up in "light sleep" as meaning "light" (!= "REM"). From what I understand, the goal of the app is to prevent your alarm from going of in deep sleep because that would make you groggy in the morning - or so goes the assumption of this. I don't know what the current state of scientific consensus is regarding best wake up time in the cycle, though. If you do know, I would love to hear from you!

@@TheQuantifiedScientist curious how this comes out. I use the microphone mode. I have more than 4 years worth of data in Sleep Cycle now. Might be closer to 6 or 7, but definitely more than 4. I’d have to look later.

I have smart watch (not apple ) . Should I track my sleep with the watch or with the sleep cycle app

I’ve been using this app for years, and I find the app to be pretty accurate, but I’m curious to know which setting you used to track your sleep? The gyroscope, that monitors movement on your bed, or the mic, that monitors sound (a recent update listens for snoring too and marks them on the graph as well)? From what I know the Apple Watch only tracks heart rate (the red dotted line) and has a quiet alarm feature that gently vibrates. In your video you didn’t mention which setting you used, and you also didn’t mention anything about the heart rate info from the Apple Watch.

I always enable the alarm on my watch but it feels like my phone is tracking my sleep (motion/accelerometer) since getting up in the middle of the night and leaving the bedroom (where the phone is) is not tracked as awake. I am a bit confused how to turn on tracking via apple watch?

@@michierh2886 go to settings -> sleep on your watch or watch app and scroll down a bit. You can turn it on or off there. Them after you wake up you can see your tracked sleep in the sleep app.

Do you favour this app in comparison to the others mentioned?
Would you still consider it to be worthwhile to use the app even if I’m using it only on my smartphone?

Awesome video! It would be great if you could also analyze the sleep tracking accuracy of Garmin devices!

Small thing to share: you can export the raw data of sleep cycle in the settings :)

    • @WoodstockDz9
      @WoodstockDz9 3 года назад +1

Actually, no. The data exported are just the date, time, quality and another information not so usefull. There is no data of all the night indicanting when you were sleeping, awake or something. To access this data, I think, you have to copy the SQL files directly from the apps folder with some software capable of doing that.
The exported data look like this, a least, on my version:
Start; Final; Sleep quality; Time in bed; Awakening; Sleep observations; Heart rate; Activity (steps)

Hi Eloisa! It will probably take at least a few weeks, I have some other videos scheduled first. Sorry, but I can only make one video per week, as I do this in addition to my normal research.

Great review. In your opinion does this do as good a job for sleep cycle tracking as Charge 3/4?

could u pls test the science behind -sleep detection- found on the Samsung watch 3,
and is there any long term health issues using such wearable technologies? regarding the constant and prolonged exposure to their sensors?
