Later models had a screw out plug in the engine cover just in front of the kickstart lever
so you could slacken the nut inside the engine, then nip it back up, to adjust the counter
balance chain to take up any slack. Its amazing how much quieter these ran after that.

That is one freaking gorgeous bike. Beautiful shade of green paint job, with gorgeous pinstripes...then the green, white, and red in the side badge, really make all of the other colors pop. Amazing exhaust note.

My buddy has one of these. We bobbed it off and put a suicide shifter on it and some drag bars. Love that old bike.

This was my first motorcycle. My Dad bought it for me from a neighbor having a garage sale. The CM400A wasn't even for sale. My Dad convinced him to sell it to his 16yo son.

These were underpowered an overweight with a higher price tag when compared to the same manual bikes. They actually had a modified engine producing less horsepower than the manuals. Why honda did that I don't know. But you had to really want an automatic to be willing to pay more for a much slower bike.

I remember looking at this exact Honda Auto in 1980. 👎Felt really weird. I ended up buying a 1981 CMT 400T far superior to this Auto 400 Honda.👍

Ok, someone help my stupidity here. He says, "It's clutchless." and I know it is called Hondamatic..... so I am confused. Why does it have a clutch lever (left handlebar)? I don't get it. Help. Hey, just saw the answer on another video: It is a parking Brake. You pull the lever in and then press down a thingamagiggy near the lever and it holds the parking Brake lever in for you. Learn something new every day.
