- Quick Answer - YES it did what i intended it to do!
VAG VR6 timing chain and tensioner rattle is a very common 'quirk' of the VR6 motor and this pretty much eliminated it completely!
Great product!
Like many other Liqui Moly products such as Engine Oil Flush Plus

I just did a timing job and you bet I'm using this every change now.
I have an 02' Blazer ZR2 4x4 w/ the 4.3 Vortec Engine & 300k miles on her.
She still looks great & runs like new! I'm getting the 2002 sticker mileage in 2023 at 16mpg in town & 18-19 on highway. My engine runs so smooth that you cannot even feel it running at a red light with the AC on! No lifter tapping, etc..
Add this stuff, then add a little oil to the bottle & repeat 5 to 7 times to get all the product out of the can.
I ran a DB sound meter before and after adding this product, have use it for years. The difference in a properly warmed up engine with fresh oil was approximately 3DB average, a staggering difference of 50% in noise. The measurements were from a fixed post, same angle and distance and averaged over 1 minute each. Use this in the recommended proportions in my motorbikes, too ( 1/2 application rate on a wet clutch's) Studies by Ford in the 1970's gave better consumption gains in those more inefficient engines, averaging 7% reduction. However not necessarily ideal for DPF's or Catalytic converters, nor internal engine wiring/ electronics. Also a bit acidic. However this has not dissuaded me and never had an issue. Smoother, quieter and a trifle more economical.
It’s great stuff I’ve been using it in my Wrx for years !!!!!!!!!!
Works very well, should work quite nice after 1000km. I use it in both Petrol/Gas and Diesel engines makes Diesel engines almost sound like a petrol alot less rattle
Excellent product. Not sure how it compares to the newer suspension product but in my liquid injection LPG Ford. It definitely runs smoother & quieter! You be the judge ;)
Worked well for my Prius
Use this on my diesel trucks, tractor, and bmw gasser. Im a believer
It does work perfect for Kia engines with that knock
Just got a bottle for my 02 4.7 dakota. Will add when i chambge my oil tomorrow or maybe next weekend. I Havnt used any oil additives in a while. I used to use hyperlube but that stuff is literally just thick oil and no additive package so dumped that from the procedure
Got to love the way they say normal, a normal engine shouldn't have any rattle or noise from anywhere at anytime, guess that's perfectionists for you.
Do you do your own maintenance?
I'll give it a try
If one has the powder form if pure 100% mos2 , how does add it to engine?
How long it took for the effects to kick in? Also, does it lasts until the next oil change or it gets less effective over time?
It's like a machine oil. It increases lubrication in engine parts, like bore, pistons... Etc
What oil are you using now?
Hi have you still got the car if so is the rattle noise gone? Cheers Simon
Do you use the entire bottle for a 5.7 hemi engine?
Put a very small amount on your power steering fluid too, it help.
really?
Yeh I probably wouldn’t do that..
@@ThatCarChannelOfficial i almost did
@@eatmoreeats9566 Really, but really small amount i'm talking small drops. But it does help
@@1300l how does it help i was wondering?
Hi I’m having that intermittent rattle on my Lexus is250 so I’m going to give it a go next service next week.! I’ll let you know cheers Simon
Let us know, although it might be worth doing an oil flush before dumping the oil!? Noisey vvt gear can be attributed to oil pressure at idle and slightly blocked oil feed etc.
Hi can I ask if the rattle on start up hasn’t returned and how often should this be used many thanks Simon
I use this on my 370z as its a high compression engine I find that it works really well!
Yeah bro it’s incredible stuff
Better mileage, smooher, great oil additive.try it is works 2023 hyundai 2.5 cly non Turbo. Santa Cruz.
Can I use ceratec in my vr6? I got same car r36 variant. But I saw it is “ not suitable for use with wet clutches”. Its mean in cars with wet clutches or in gearboxes with wet clutches? Like a motorcycle etc. as far as I know gearbox oil don’t mixed with engine oil right? Tks
Correct, systems that share engine and trans oil are recommended to not use these products. Which by the way almost no mainstream auto marques use, bikes on the other hand, very common.
I've tested it and got a 0.4% reduction in fuel consumption which is roughly 1% reduction in engine losses (or a quarter of the fuel saving you'll get by removing one of your side view mirrors). I did drive around with a lab fuel flow meter, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed the difference. So it does work but not as much as people think. It did also quiet tappet and injector noise, which is only noticeable at idle, so I'm quite sure there is less wear with it. I didn't do a before and after engine tear down, so my last claim is an opinion, but it does save you a little bit of fuel, in my case in my eco bucket of a car 150ml/1000km
Great info! Thanks
Man it’s a proven friction modifier that was actually developed to prevent piston aircraft engines from seizing as a result of oil pressure loss
hey how u doing, just wanted to ask is your car (engine) ok after using this for 4yrs?
@@arshiavali1597 Yes no problem, the valve train stayed silent. I Don't drive much, so 30,000 km since my post 4 years ago. I've since also begun using their gearbox oil version of this and it has made a similar reduction of noise, but without the extra drag of using a thicker oil.
It is only normal for 3 seconds MAX.
Does it clog the oil filter, or the better question does particles make through the filter?
No
The Molybdenum particles are around 0.1-0.5 microns. Filters can only trap particles 25-50 microns or larger depending on efficiency, so they are wayyyy too small to clog a filter!
I know I'm late here. Did that start up chain rattle become any more of a problem? A common problem with early Ford 5.4L 3V engines is start up chain rattle. With the chain slapping around, It chews into the timing cover and causes metal filings to fill the sump. Can be caused by broken plastic chain guides or leaking oil pressurised chain tensioners. I wonder if VW ignore it knowing the engine will last just out of the warranty period.
Usually you would replace the tensioner, then the next step would be chain and guides etc. the ecu is smart enough to monitor cam phasing and you can read how much the timing chain has stretched, to see if it’s within limits or not.
But yes, your right you can’t fix the problem just buy throwing new guides, why did they fail/wear And work backwards.
Yeah, man. I have the Ford 5.4L 3V in my BF Fairlane. I don't have the start up chain rattle but I have the typical cam phaser tick/knock sound at hot idle. I just put in Liqui Moly MoS2 with an oil change (314 000 km) yesterday hoping to quiet it down. Leaking oil pressurised chain tensioners cause a start up rattle and it goes away quickly once the chains are tensioned but they are still bleeding oil pressure at all times. Using Liqui Moly MoS2 to fix the noise won't fix the low oil pressure. I don't know if VW VR6 engines are the same in that regard. But for the owners of the Ford Mod V8 engines start up rattle can't be fixed with an oil additive.
I just did an Engine Flush using Liquimoly Engine Flush, and put Ceratec with new engine oil. Can I put this on the next engine oil change?
I can’t see why not, even different base oils have different additive packages - this would be no different.
how much do you put in? of that can?
Good swear by this stuff
Bought the MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment 3/30/2021, poured it in the crankcase then drove off. After 2.5 miles of driving, engine started misfiring, lost a lot of power and barely got us home. Checked the codes when I got home and P0300 and P0305 showed. Shut the engine off, checked for loose connections but didn't find any so I started the car again. After a few minutes of idling, engine struggled then died. Now it is seized and would not start again. Engine had adequate oil and wasn't overfilled when added the Liqui-Moly, coolant level was adequate, no overheating and no issues. Now it's just dead. Car is a 2007 Mercedes ML350 with 165k miles and oil change was only ~1,000 miles ago.
ive used this twice and no problems. ssounds like you have a car issue and not a product issue....
Holy Moly, that is making me question if I really dare continue to use it in our jeep Cherokee's. Really sorry to hear what happened. 😢 I've used it in both Jeeps for about a year. The 93 had 150,000 when I started and the 2004 had 85,000 miles when starting.
Purely coincidental. Your motor was on the verge of dying already. This product is amazing.
The fact that it quietened down the "chain noise", doesn't really prove anything.
The only reason I suggested this was noise usually stems from friction, it has consistently been quieter since putting this in. I have however since replaced the oil with a group 4/5 PAO/ester base and it now doesn’t need any additives to maintain quiet operation.
@@ThatCarChannelOfficial Chain noise (rattle) is due to looseness... not friction.
It’s a hydraulic tensioner, I can only assume it has allowed the tensioner to move more freely/unstick it. Without performing more in depth analysis, I came to my own conclusion that it does work, given that no other variables were changed and I noticed an immediate difference. Now I’m running a totally different oil and it still doesn’t rattle, so I could also assume that the oil that was in the car when I bought it (just serviced) was the main reason for the rattle/tensioner not operating in its full range.
@@ThatCarChannelOfficial Well then that totally discredits the MoS2!. You have to use the exact SAME oil when testing out the MoS2.
@@ThatCarChannelOfficial What Group 4/5 do you use??
