- In this video, I go through what I believe are the top 5 skills you should learn if you want to work in the finance industry, and more specifically, the financial markets side. These are most likely roles on a trading floor like trading, sales, portfolio management, research, and risk management. Whether you're in college, entering the work force, or pivoting from a different industry, these are 5 skills that you can start working on right now to put on your resume, nail an interview, or immediately start adding value right when you join a trading desk.

Great video thx for the info ! I’m 2nd year in college and this summer I’ll learn coding , do u suggest starting with excel and vba or python (I hope to learn both of them till the time I apply for internship but I’ll like to know which is more important). I would really appreciate if you answer me thanks
Hey Aaron! Great video! I was just wondering what programming language is more suitable for people without any coding background to learn(to be used in the field of finance); Python or R?
From what I've heard, Python is generally easier to learn and more widely applicable.
What type of hedge fund do you work for long/short, global macro, event driven etc.?
Global macro would be closest
videos are very informative and know leadable, Can you make a video on finance project using python which helps us more
I'll try to shed some light into that in a future video!
What’s the name of that movie in first clip PLEASE?????
Any tips for high school students wanting to do finance? Any thing I really need to know before I select it as my major?
Lots and lots of math
I love trading and have been in this space for about three years now. I currently day trade futures and it's truly a passion mine. Would you suggest that I go for a finance degree? Is it worth it?
Absolutely! You will definitely need a finance degree if you want to trade at an institutional level.
Can i get in to finance if do MBA in business analytics ?
SUPREME
would you say getting a CFA certification would make one stand out more to employers as well as provide an individual with the above-mentioned required skills?
Nope
From what I've seen it really depends on the employer and the role. For example, it probably won't be as useful for more quantitative roles like a risk manager or a systematic trader but would help if you're going for an equity research or asset management type job. It would however give you a lot of the fundamental skills that I mentioned (aside from coding) but it is a huge time commitment so you'll have to assess that tradeoff yourself. Hope that helps!
Aaron, what do you think about learning to code in R instead of Python?
In my experience, things seem to be migrating to mostly Python but I don't know too much about R so can't say for certain.
It's a good Idea to know R but it's generally used for calculations whereas Python is a very versatile language that can be used for calculations but also building models , data structures and automation.
Hope this helps
REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL @aaron yao 👍
What coding languages do yall use in finance? Just python or R too?
Both are used, I only know Python however R is commonly used as well.
great Video Aaron! Quick question: What are examples of task you've automated with coding?
Thank you! One example I can give is writing a script to alert us of an upcoming futures roll date instead of manually checking.
nice sponsorship!
Thank you!
Is it really important to learn any programming language for investment banking role?
I can't say for certain since I personally haven't worked in banking but given what I know about the nature of the work, I don't think its particularly necessary.
@@aaron_yao thanks mate
How can someone get their foot in the door as a quant if they don’t have a degree? Do most firms verify your degree is real?
That's a tough question that I unfortunately don't have the answer to. But yes, firms will likely ask for a school transcript, especially if its your first job.
Your math skills aren't good enough to be a quant. It's possible to break into some finance roles without a degree, but you won't be a quant
@@JacobThomas-hv7gj What level are my math skills at and what level is required?
What major degree you need to become a quant?
Aaron; what are your pc specs?
I'll be making a setup tour video soon so be on the lookout for that!
I dont understand. If you have now learned the ways and ropes of trading why dont you just pass a funded account and trade independently ? its like free money for a profitable trader
Not that simple
