Look how prepared he was. He learnt by heart the structure of the presentation with no slides at all. 4 key topics, each one had a certain amount of advices. Amazing brain, you can clearly see what Leadership means here. He is like a military General.
I wish my lectures in college were this good. Clear, succinct, and actually valuable content from someone that has a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Jim Donovan gives incredible lectures! My only wish is that we had more of them. I’ve watched all of them so far and have learned a lot, keep ‘em comin!!
I'm not and never going into investment banking. But my God I learned enough from this talk that I could apply to any business career. And it's more helpful than trying to get career advice at most undergraduate business programs. Jim Donovan's advice can be for anyone who wants to start learning business or be better at it.
Investment bankers at GS keep a relatively low profile - Thank you, Jim Donovan for taking time to drop absolute gems. No matter your career pursuit you can find a way to apply these practices to your path for success.
I'm not even an investment banker or even remotely in that industry. I'm a structural engineer. But the way Jim talks really motivates me and I think a lot of what he says transfers to all jobs
I've been waiting for a long time for a continuation of Jim Donovan's videos!! Everyone should check out his lectures "Secrets to Optimal Client Service" , "Are You Destined to Deal?" and "Managing Client Relationships ". Thanks to the University of Virginia School of Law for posting this!
Love the bullet points he provides to navigate through not just a career in banking but in life as well. You don’t need tips on how to enjoy vacations or spend your money, like Bruce Lee said, don’t pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one. In this case, Jim gives us the tools to navigate through a difficult but rewarding path.
Extremely grateful Jim Donovan is willing to share his immense amount of wisdom and knowledge with all of us. Timeless and incredible advice for people of all professions to follow. Thank you Jim for dedicating so much to your craft and passing down to others what you learned along the way. Very grateful to hear your talks.
One of the most concise, informative, insightful, and encouraging videos I’ve ever seen. Applicable to all business jobs and many aspect of life. Thank you Mr. Donovan!
Not sure why the algorithm suggested this video for me. I admire hard work. I admire initiative. I admire selflessness. This guy certainly has an impressive resume. I wonder though, if/when he looks back on his life, would the sacrifices that he made have been worth it.
Not in the investment banking world, but this is absolutely fantastic advice for young people starting work, and even me being 10 years into advertising!
I used to look around at management committee meetings and think, “If we were to go to war, who would I want to be our leader”. Jim Donovan would definitely get my vote.
I had problem comprehending trading in general. I tried watching other RUclips trading channels, but they made the concepts more complicated. I was almost giving up until when i discovered content and explain everything in detail. The videos are easy to follow
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the University of Virginia for this opportunity to provide this excellent Seminar on banking investment. What Is Investment Banking? Investment banking is a type of banking that organizes large, complex financial transactions such as mergers or initial public offering (IPO) underwriting. These banks may raise money for companies in a variety of ways, including underwriting the issuance of new securities for a corporation, municipality, or other institution. They may manage a corporation's IPO. Investment banks also provide advice in mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations.
UVA is very good at teaching students how to look professional. Wish he actually goes into how to make good use of the notes, for example, on the more concrete level.
Anything with fierce competition will be difficult to succeed in. that really can apply to sports and other sectors as well. My favorite observation is F1 drivers. There are only 20 drivers in the whole world that will actively be behind the wheel of an F1 car… think about that for a sec. There are billions of people on the planet but only 20 get the opportunity.. if that isn’t fierce competition idk what is. being great at your craft is the greatest equalizer imo. love the video!
Jim Donovan is vice chairman of global client coverage at Goldman Sachs, where he is responsible for advising many of the firm’s largest corporate and individual clients.

Yes, it s weird no?
One concise fella
Jim Donovan seems like the type of guy to have a business card with subtle off-white coloring and tasteful thickness.
