What my experience has been like as an investment banking intern in NYC. It's been super fun working and experiencing my first internship ever in New York City. Join me through my average day working in finance!

Perfect time to learn as we are in the brink of a recession

nope we ARE in a recession 😂
Recession is going to be mild. Jobs market is red hot. There has never ever ever been a recession where GDP declines but unemployment decreases. Where demand goes down, but more people are getting hired. It's going to be a correction, interes rates are going to tip the economy over a little bit but nothing to crazy. You can already see that most commodities prices are going down meaning that inflation will go down because demand is going down. This will give supply chain bottlenecks time to fix up. The energy crisis in the EU is a different ballgame but bothing insane. Don't expect a 2008 crisis. It's going to be mild. Also equities are fairly cheap rn so go wild and shop at a discount. I suspect end of 2023 monetary loosening will start to happen. It's just temporary hick up. You'll come back to this comment and say yo dude you were right in the future.

Interesting how things change, when I was an intern I got never out before midnight. Once you’re in, make sure you move to the buyside quickly.
Agreed on questions, absolute key, and get fast with shortcuts quickly, also, always ask your analyst or associate how long they think a task should take you - if it takes you longer make sure to see why it took you longer, they may be able to guide or teach you something that will help you the next time
I am in M&A - never got out before 2am.

Well done, young man. Though I didn't work in the field of IB, I did spend 25 years in corporate media/advertising. As a middle class, NYC kid it was so cool to put on a suit and go into Manhattan everyday. But it wears off quick. Man, when I was interning in the early/mid 90s, the office was a wild place to be. People were just getting access to the Internet and downloading porn in the office! Everyone would gather around someone's cube just to check it out. There were always people having work affairs cheating on their spouses, and of course lots of cocaine use in the bathrooms! And every Thursday was required happy hour drinking at the local pub in midtown. That's where you really made work connections and relationships. Times are so different now in 2022. In many ways they are better but I have to say back then being in my 20's in the 1990s offices were crazy fun!
