When i started thinking about how much time i wanted to sink i spent a lot less time watching streams and instead caught up through clips and moved on in 5 minutes
Decided to make the switch to streaming on RUclips because of Twitch's horrible revenue share and DMCA issues at the time. With the sexualised content, gambling and Twitch's inability to make strict, understandable community guidelines and actually enforce them, I'm so glad I've left. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Twitch go the route of Mixer or get sold off in the future unless some serious changes happen.

I normally agree with Devin, but on this particular topic it makes no sense why you would just outright ban it. This is easily fixed with making two sections of Twitch, one that's the main Twitch, predominantly "family friendly" and one that's 18+ or 21+ - then advertisers can choose which block of the website they want their ads run on. I work for an operator of online casinos with a parent office based in the UK. I've been amazed at the care the company takes with responsible gaming (RG) practices for every user and employee regardless of spend on site. That generally comes from a European mindset on gambling and vastly different regulations that we strive for even internationally. Its been shocking to see how our competitors conduct in the same spaces (on their sites, in advertisements, in promo terms, on socials/media). All of which under heavily monitored/regulated conditions from state laws and agencies like Divisions of Gaming Enforcement. Its wild how far streams are able to go and how it "isn't" overseen as part of state regulations with legalized online gambling/sports betting. As you've said yourself, I've seen a lot of "affiliate" streamers playing a slot, table game, or daily fantasy sport where its wildly misrepresenting accurate return to players (RTP) or odds.

Advertisers are actively running away even more from the platform as a whole, because Twitch just "doesn't care" about its own content, how to enforce its guidelines, or how to basically do anything that is not "removing unnecessary stuff in an attempt to gain clout" (ie removing "Blind Playthrough" because it was "bad"). Not only that, but it is also willing to remove some ad opportunities (Ads for Bits) for an incompatible model for itself as a livestreaming service (multiplayer ads). I'm just baffled at some of the decisions that are made up there, and have lost faith in Twitch a long time ago as well, and not just because of "hot tubs" or "gambling". The whole website has a bunch of problems. They have done jack diddly squat about their discoverability problems (when there are some CLEAR ways to improve), their DMCA system is still terrorizing creators to the point of refusing to keep content on the platform, hot-tubs, gambling and other "adult" content is still rampant on the platform, driving advertisers away, AND Twitch is still using that incompatible ad system with its own platform. And let's not even talk about the problems with the Affiliate agreements and revenue splits. What could be worse? Twitch is still considered the "best place to stream on". And that is true for the most part. Extensions, emotes, channel point rewards and integrations with the API are making the website still a super solid choice in terms of streaming, and the lower "threshold" for affiliation helps a lot starting "earning" money early on. (Even though, well, Twitch revenue splits.) So interestingly enough, it's pretty much the golden moment for RUclips or Facebook to push forward and improve. A lot of Twitch creators are fed up with all of this nonsense, myself included. (I love the platform, I hate the management of it.) If Facebook and RUclips could provide the same experience as Twitch (if not better, because YT has better bitrates and transcoding as a small example), people WILL switch. Especially lower affiliates that don't even care that much if they're losing 5 viewers on Twitch to get 30-100 on RUclips instead.
Well said Devin. This month I left Twitch, and a lot of the things you said in the video are the reason(s) why I left that platform. Gambling streams have always thrived on twitch. Wether it's csgo, FIFA, genshin impact, there will always be gambling streams on twitch. I don't know where they draw the line. Why is gambling in video games treated differently to playing black jack? The gaming industry has been doing so much damage overtime with predatory gambling practices.
Gambling was not allowed for more than 30 minutes at a time when csgo gambling was big on twitch, they did it to stop people like phantoml0rd perma gambling every stream.
Genshim impact is weed and gambling is heroin thats why they dont treat them the same in my opinion both should be banned but gambling (slots) is clearly worse
Miss you dude. You created generally some of the most interesting content on twitch, and a marketer myself your niche on streaming and content creators held a high value with me.
Twitch seems to be entering its next stage in adolescence... We had the children focused fortnite streams, and now we have gambling and adult themed content becomes more relevant. Someone needs to tell Twitch's parents their child is out late and is truly making their own place full of blackjack and adult stuff.
Love your stuff, even though you've been gone for a while, since then I've taken time off of video games to work on myself, and even though it wasn't all you, I attribute a sizeable part of that to you, appreciate your work a lot!
I missed Devin!! Im not on dc so i didnt know why he was never on twitch. i was worried! now im glad to see you are ok my bud! Miss ya and love ya man! hope to see more of ya soon :)
You're so right about them not enforcing rules!! Just yesterday in the ASMR category a streamer was sexually licking the mic again. This is not the reputation I want as a female streamer when I tell someone I stream on Twitch. I would hate for someone to be come onto website and see that or they tell me "oh like that sexual AMSR stuff?" Sure the odds of someone saying that specifically is small, but it's the overall mindset. Hot tub streams are whatever to me, but I do think a line needs to be drawn AND upheld by Twitch. What the bigger streamers do sets the tone for the platform's reputation and it trickles down.
@@theretrosavage I don't care if someone sits a hot tub with their bikini on. It's the actions that one does that can tarnish a reputation, not necessarily what someone is wearing or where they choose to stream from.
@@theretrosavage Please explain to me how wearing a bikini is sexual? I've seen plenty of streams were a bunch of friend were at the pool or chilling in a hot tub and just having fun. I've also seen plenty of streams where just one person was chillin in a hot tub playing games and not doing anything sexual. I think that is fine and especially now that it has its own category. I also think the trend will die (kind of already is) and people will move on. But what I'm seeing in the ASMR category right now is violating ToS and Twitch needs to do something about it. Just as much as a streamer purposely being sexual in a hot tub. It's not the category they're in that's the issue. It's how they are purposely behaving in these categories that's the issue.
Adhering to your moral compass sounds like strongest brand position and its a big reason I follow, subscribe and respect your content and you. Thanks for keeping it real
But he manages and represents (admits it at the start of this video) many of the creators who are making the content he claims is causing these issues on Twitch?
I respect your stance but one could also argue the platform needs creators like yourself now more than ever.. either way love the content as always Devin ❤️👍🏻
Banning gambling and hot tub streams seems like a form of censorship, I sort of lean towards believing the internet is a place of freedom to do things. Why is it a priority to keep Twitch a 'pure' space? It only seems like it is weird because the change came out of no where, and it only really affects people who make money on Twitch, which is what this video is about. Why should viewers rally with creators into helping them sustain the platform that is their workplace, when clearly, the consumers are in favour of the content.
Watched it all end-to-end here. I’m also a strong advocate of moral issues effecting Twitch atm, vexed by the lack of comms and action from Twitch. Tens of thousands of kids tuning into Gambling Andy will, without question, adversely affect a quantity of said kids, and also Twitch as a platform supporting millions of talented creators. They need to take proper action.
You made it very clear at the 15 minute mark. It's not the same anymore. It was best when it was just a gaming platform. I'm around the same age group of all the major streamers, it seems so shallow now. It was fun watching people be up and coming, growing up with people. When Amazon bought them out it just turned into a corporate monster. I understand those that make lots of money, but yes it effects lots of peoples mental health in different ways. It takes time from peoples lives, time they wish they could've had back. When people get to their late 20s they'll understand. The pandemic has effected the online world immensely, what the world needs right now is a moral compass.
We miss your streams, i hope you still keep making youtube content, your unique experience and insights are always worth listening to. There aren't enough people like you, destiny, richard lewis etc who can explain these concepts in greater detail because not many have the experience/understanding/intelligence/integrity that is needed. Thanks, look after yourself.
Anyone else thinking about all the gray zones for enforcing no gambling? What about Gatcha? What about loot crates that can be sold for real money? What about staking (ex. OSRS duel arena/wow death roll)? What about slots in pokemon? What about poker streams? I get the motivation but some kind of line would need to be drawn, and now we're in the same boat as hottub streams
devin i am a big fan of your videos! and just looking at the thumbnail I agree, I have been spending less and less time on twitch virtually watching nothing.
I'm just gonna be real right now, Twitch right now is just so full of crap. Lot of the reasons you mentioned in this video is why I left Twitch, as well as being backstabbed by people I had once called my friend. At one time Twitch use to be lot better platform, I remember it as I was messing around on it at one point and just how friendly it was but all that changed later on as I started to notice the changes especially when Mixer just kind of disappeared. It wasn't the same platform I once knew neither did I feel the same about the whole community vibe or the streamers on there. I'm not saying all of Twitch is bad, it does take a lot of things about what happened to you to change your mind about it though as well as the things you mentioned in this video. That's kind of why I've recently moved over to RUclips Gaming, best decision ever could of made for myself.
Two months away from the platform and dropping one of the BIGGEST mic bombs right here. Sheesh lets hope your wrong Devin but if its true, I'll be really curious to see where everyone decides to go next (streamers, content creators, etc).
Bro yesterday I googled for Twitch and Google redirected me to Chaturbate. Jokes aside, didn't knew you played FFXIV! I'm curious now to know your view on Blizzard/WoW vs SE/FFXIV (and how Streamers influences this market) from a business perspective. And I'm also glad to see you're doing better than when you were streaming! I've been someone who never really liked streaming that much because working on entertainment seems kinda of futile to me (don't care if others do, just not for me) and the whole idea of Twitch sold this streamer dream to a lot of young people who have being trying to achiev this dream much like professional esports sell the dream of being a professional player fully knowing there's space for only a selected few.
Funny thing about "actions are louder than words": I never asked me why Devin isn't streaming anymore, he was not online and I simply forgot he excist. I think that is the reason why any boykott of a major plattform/company by individuals doesn't work and change nothing more than the peace of mind of the boykotter itself And that is okay, everybody needs to focus on their well being first
I know he's stopping streaming but it would be nice if he came back once in a while to say hi, like maybe a RUclips stream because that seems to be the most "ethical" streaming service right now because Facebook is pretty bad

@@geesusreyes Not if you're a partner
@@geesusreyes That´s not true. And if you would actually watch Devins Content you would know that
Gambling streams have always thrived on twitch. Wether it's csgo, FIFA, genshin impact, there will always be gambling streams on twitch.
I don't know where they draw the line. Why is gambling in video games treated differently to playing black jack?
The gaming industry has been doing so much damage overtime with predatory gambling practices.
ikr this is why I think devin is being unfair with gambling vs the softcore porn, they both have "benefits" but each equally has no place on twtich.
@@25thRev How are you gonna compare weed to gambling though, actually the dumbest thing i've read in a while.
Miss you dude. You created generally some of the most interesting content on twitch, and a marketer myself your niche on streaming and content creators held a high value with me.
thanks that you still make these videos
@@Minotauries seek help... you've got some serious psychology issues
My brain needed you. You regenerate brain cells ❤️
Good commentary and good to have ya back!
Just stumbled upon your channel and wow... You are very smart and well articulated in explaining things. Great content man, you earned a new sub.
i just started watching your old videos again this is great
This is super interesting, especially the long-term brand analysis!
Thank you for your input, devin...
I missed your content man, hope all is going well, and hope to catch you live soon!
Having a miserable day until I saw this pop up on my feed. Thank you Devin for giving me something to keep my mind busy for today
Any privately owned company does not have any reason to keep things free.
Also isnt this the dude who helps the top gambling streamer on the platform run his podcast as well as helped Amouranth grow her brand?
its so sad to see twitch going this way but hopefully your right and itll all just stop
was really wondering where you went devin, thanks for the update!
Great Video Devon, always ever so insightful! Can't wait for more!
thanks a ton
I have not agreed with a single video I have seen more in recent memory! Awesome points and great explanations!
PS thanks for the talk Devin. Keep it up.
Great video Devin miss the streams hope all is well :)
Cannot help but notice the MauLer subscription in his tab.
A man of culture.
I missed Devin’s content
Likewise his takes are so fascinating on where the future of streaming is headed
Will you stream on RUclips??
I really hope he does :)
If the platform is the main issue, we will be glad to see more of you here
3:06 that's such a great way of putting it
You made it very clear at the 15 minute mark.
I do miss you streaming, but I appreciate and support your decision not to.
At this rate I don't think Twitch will be around much longer
You can't even place bets with channel points in some EU countries (my example: Poland). How did they think straight gambling will be okay?
We miss your streams, i hope you still keep making youtube content, your unique experience and insights are always worth listening to. There aren't enough people like you, destiny, richard lewis etc who can explain these concepts in greater detail because not many have the experience/understanding/intelligence/integrity that is needed. Thanks, look after yourself.
I miss you Devin! Please don't disappear! Maybe stream on RUclips?
I was wondering where you went, hope you're doing well Devin
I've missed Devin allot~! Glad to see you again~!
It's good to see you post devin.
The only place I find the use of Notepad to be enjoyable is on this channel. Thanks for the thoughtful content to ponder.
I love your content so much. You speak your truth and it's refreshing to hear
Those headphones. Most beautiful sound I've ever heard came from those headphones 🎧 "Death parade - After the game" hits different on those headphones
Omg he is still alive , damn I missed these conversations
Brilliant video man. I completely agree. WAKE UP TWITCH!!
Should be titled “WHY I MADE MY GIRLFRIEND QUIT STREAMING” 😂
Anyone else thinking about all the gray zones for enforcing no gambling?
What about Gatcha?
What about loot crates that can be sold for real money?
What about staking (ex. OSRS duel arena/wow death roll)?
What about slots in pokemon?
What about poker streams?
I get the motivation but some kind of line would need to be drawn, and now we're in the same boat as hottub streams
this is a very informational and powerful video
devin i am a big fan of your videos! and just looking at the thumbnail I agree, I have been spending less and less time on twitch virtually watching nothing.
The irony on this is unmatched… “influenced to by crypto”…. Gets interrupted by a crypto add 😂😂
Always appreciate your insight and videos Devin.
Missed you Devin hope you're doing great ❤
I'm just gonna be real right now, Twitch right now is just so full of crap.
Don’t ghost us devin! Hope to see u stream somewhere else once twitch devours itself
Missed the notepad
I honestly hope you continue to make youtube content at least! Miss the videos
Before I fully watch the vid, I just gotta say. I miss your broadcasts~~!
Funny thing about "actions are louder than words": I never asked me why Devin isn't streaming anymore, he was not online and I simply forgot he excist.
I think that is the reason why any boykott of a major plattform/company by individuals doesn't work and change nothing more than the peace of mind of the boykotter itself
And that is okay, everybody needs to focus on their well being first
I know he's stopping streaming but it would be nice if he came back once in a while to say hi, like maybe a RUclips stream because that seems to be the most "ethical" streaming service right now because Facebook is pretty bad
Finally you are back. Been waiting dude
