- Art Garfunkel plays "Bridge Over Troubled Water" live in concert at the Uptown Theatre in Napa, California on May 12, 2019. The song was written by Paul Simon and originally appeared on the Simon and Garfunkel album of the same name in 1970. This version does not include the Sail On Silver Girl verse about Simon's then wife, Peggy Harper, which Garfunkel had suggested but which Paul Simon never really cared for. The song has also been reworked to match an earlier version of the song Paul Simon discussed in a recent documentary. Joining Mr. Garfunkel onstage are Tab Laven (guitar) and Paul Beard (keyboard).

Bridge Over Troubled Water lyrics:
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Thanks for watching my video. I just posted a video I shot of Paul Simon playing the same song a few months later (August 2019): ruclips.net/video/_mRZInfUi6M/видео.html . Note that Simon does the song with a 15-piece band, so it's a very different experience from this intimate version by Garfunkel. And to see the 7 other videos I shot at this Art Garfunkel concert, please see ruclips.net/p/PLwdc0qZNx0tbECxpc5BQaJsKNuJvN7LFh . Enjoy!
yeah, Mr. Garfunkle, much respect.
Shortly after I saw old friends in concert in 2004, Artie did a solo performance at the Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas... And I missed it! I'll always regret that.
Paul Simon is magnificent.. he certainly knows how to put a band together... and he doesn't waffle.. saw him live in Manchester Arena and he was spectacular
Sing it full
Great video.... thank you so much
When he sings, the croak of old age that has crept into his speaking voice melts away. He doesn't have the power of his younger self, but the same vocal sweetness still rings. All these years, and it's still beautiful.
He doesn't have the power of his youth but he does have the T-Shirts
here here!
Yes! It's like a less powerful, but richer sound.
The different is that he has still the vocal voice as years ago. If you compare with todays singers where you cant connect the voice and song after 2 years..
It's still surprisingly smooth.
I was friends with his son James. And I got to meet art in Vegas. What a wonderful human being.
Lucky you
I am almost your age, but your voice and this song saved my live from suicide. Thank you.
I hope you are doing well Hildegard.. I'm sure glad you are still here with us... Take care, Best regards.....
May God Bless You, Hildegard!
When this song first came out, my dad died. This song gave me great confert.
When I hear it, I always
think of him.
Thank you so much !!!
❤🎵🎶...
Hildegard Bellmann... me too x
How do you know how old I am??
49 years after the release of the song, Art sounds just as beautiful as the first time he sung it.
I agree. He is still the best.
"...Art sounds just as beautiful as the first time he sung it....".
Oh come on ! I'm a big Simon & Garfunkel fan, but get real, he's nothing like he was. Which is sad of course. But we have to acknowledge the passing of time degrades us. No use pretending otherwise. It happens to us all in varying degrees.
@@gribwitch
Oh yes he does sound as pure and as beautiful as in the original recording.
@@gribwitch ...his beautiful voice has aged with him... rightly so and still beautiful as ever!
I don’t think there could ever be a person who could not appreciate the music of Simon and Garfunkel. It just touches the soul and makes you feel. Respect.
I always admired Paul Simon's masterful songwriting. But Garfunkel's voice... damn, incomparable.
It makes me soooo sad, to see how we all HAVE TO become older. I loved Art and Paul in my youth and still do. So many many years past. I wish I could scroll back these times full of passion and hope.
Becoming older is a blessing....so many don't.
I feel the same way. I look at these old men and know life has moved forward. I just know them young and cannot accept they are old now. Its like a time warp.
@@annettesouthwell1726 every now and again i see singers from my younger days and i think to myself is that really them ? Boy do they look different now, completely forgetting I'm getting older myself aswell. It's the same as art doing this song, not the Same voice but a beautiful song from heaven nevertheless. Where does time go? Oct 2021 🙏❤🇬🇧🙏🙄🙄
It’s not the getting older that’s worrisome
It’s the being old that worries me
So glad we got to love in times likes those. Almost polar opposite of today.
The Beautiful Art, always loved his sweet voice for the past 50 years.
God's Vibes,
Me 2 !!!
Boomer in Arkansas 💚
I’m sorry but did you hear how he did the song? Not even a complete version of it. He sounds like he gets out of breath so he has to shorten the songs. He could never keep up with Paul Simon’s strong, clear, uncompromised voice now. Those damn cigarettes ruined everything!
Oh give it a break! Let’s be real here. They are 79 years old! They are both too old now for the kind of tours they used to do. I do wish they would do just one last get-together to reconcile once and for all before they die, but I don’t believe Paul would go for it. He retired 2, almost 3 years ago now and I don’t think he wants to go touring anymore.
Heartbreaking to think that one day that angelic voice will be silenced forever. I try not to think about it too much but in moments like this it hits you.
Same.me
These are my people. I am.69 now, the day Art Garfunkel passes away will be very difficult for me. I have watched and listened to him every step of the way. Love this man❤🙏❤🙏
damn
OURS TOO
There will be more voices.
His voice never gets old. Oh god i love this man
Kudos to you, my friend. I'm 84 years old so i remember you always. You have the sweetest voice. You made the duo because you could really harmonize and singing without Simon you still sound great. I can just close my eyes and go back to the 60s the best era. ❤
Mr Garfunkel maybe old but he still can sing me a lullaby. So beautiful.
I heard Arthur sing this when he, Paul, and their terrific band played the Central Park Concert in 1981. The best show I ever attended, and the biggest crowd too!
Me too! Right up front. Best show ever!
That concert and the video from it is excellent. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't have it. And it contains a lively version of "Late In The Evening" - the brass on it was great too.
after all these years it still makes the hairs on my neck stand up...
stunning!
shave your neck hairs
This is why I love Art Garfunkel. Oh my God, I love you.
He still has it. Hope he reunites with Simon soon.
@@mischadelint4180 what's the reason? Please answer.
Simon’s retired
It won’t involve me ONLY because last time tickets were at least $100.00
@@user-bg3io4km4z Paul won't talk to him.
Big falling out or three between those two. It would take a miracle to get them in the same room. Truly sad. I had wished to see them do "Old Friends"...as old friends. When one of them takes leave of this earth, I have a feeling the other will regret the lost time very, very deeply.
50 years of singing this song and you have still got IT.👍
This comment section restores my faith in humanity... I love you all!
I always feel so much better when I read the comments on my favourite Artists and their Music such a Beautiful, (Peaceful feeling ...until the adverts 🥴 I can’t afford subscription ...I don’t use it that much...I use Facebook as so much going on atm, so many people arguing on Facebook...with good reason though that’s the trouble isn’t it. Sending Good Wishes 😁❤️👨👩👧👦❤️🌻☘️🦋
I define a Legend by staying power and tolerance for risk. For Art to be still out there trodding the boards after 50 years is amazing. Takes courage and love. Shame on the detractors!
how nice of you to decide that ONLY YOU get to decide what a legend is...and people who disagree with you should be shamed...
@@jadezee6316 how nice of you to be a complete jackass….it’s his opinion, like the saying goes it’s like an asshole, everyone has one, including this comment sectionl
You are totally right, Jade!!
I was in Vietnam and the wife of one of the guys sent him this album. We were amazed!
WOW after 5 years he brought the song back to its high notes 😮
Simon & Garfankel , In 1982 I emigrated to the states (NJ) from my native Peru.and I liked there music very much and I used to practice my English singing these music. I still listen this great musicians.!!! God Bless them!!! 🤓
Art Garfunkel has such as sweet soul. May God bless him in Jesus' Name. Amen.
When it's your song it's your song. No matter your age or vocal abilities, you will still be able to capture the essence of it. :)
Paul Simon wrote this song.
Eh? How can this only have had 6.2k views? It is brilliant, and I'm so glad that Arts voice is still recognisably his.
Paul Simon was what made Simon &Garfunkel
Paul and Art's excellent collaboration was what really made Simon and Garfunkel a great success as a duo.
He is a genuine artist. Always and always Garfunkel, never changed. Congratulations.
I'm so glad you exit at our generation. What a wonderful age. We adore you.
Such a legend.
It was back then 1972,when i was 12 listened this timeless song but till now 62 still litsen it to fill up my soul with this beatiful song...thanks Atie & Simon for tis masterpiece.
Wow, just wow. I almost teared up hearing his voice sing this song this many years later. Gosh he still sounds good!
Love you Art. I've been with you and Paul, since -68...
Paul Simon said when he wrote Bridge over Troubled Waters.. he said” I knew immediately this was going to be a sin for Artie”. .. “ For his voice will make this song sound better than I could by accompanying him- I wanted him dot do without me “
In the interview with Alex Baldwin. 🌟🧡🌟
Sooo great to see Art still singing!
Thanks for good old misic I've heard first when I was a schoolboy in the USSR. Greetings from Russia!
Age turns people into monsters but when they have the emotion of life inside them, they become beautiful as if time as passed aside them and they become childs forever. Art is one of them!
Amazing job for someone who back in 2010 suffered from vocal troubles glad he made it back singing! 🙂
Sad about art and Paul but sometimes people can't get along but these songs are masterpiece I would put them up on the top shelf with any of the greatest music of our lives
👏Art always the voice of the voices. One of the voices best ever in music history👏
So sweet! Transcends age and moves one to tears!
This is what they call a broken voice? It's beautiful! I hope this song will never be forgotten, such a beautiful song.
It won’t ever be forgotten
Art is one of the good guys. Friendly and so talented. Great job Art!
Gotta say he still sounds way better then i thought he would Artie and Paul are timeless
He's getting old... Still sounds great.
He has only one other option besides getting old, and I don’t think you’d like it.
@@JohnDoe-gk7ok That other option what you're on about, I don't think HE'D like it very much either, to be honest!
Great if that
"Old" and still show what music is. And still perfect. You like me who are "unfortunately" getting older .. At that time played in front of an audience of millions. Today, even at 80, great presence. I grew up in the 60s, having an absolutely great time with great music
Neither Paul Simon nor Art Garfunkel can sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as they did in 1970 but when you have a fantastic lyrically & musically written song, you can change it to fit your vocal range. I really like how both of them have changed the arrangement for this song. Bravo Gentlemen, Bravo.
A true S&G fan doesn’t care about how he sings at this age because we know the true power that he sang for a long long time. I love you S&G ❤️❤️
Art you are getting better with Bridge! The beginning is really good! You always had a great sense of humor about Paul! Love to you!
This is just beautiful love his angelic voice stunning 💙💙💙💙
Still beautiful - timeless classic done by a master
It's always good to hear him sing, how sad that his beautiful voice is slowly leaving him.
Honestly , I’m a Hard Rock/Metal/technical guitar fan , and I always lambasted Simon And Garfunkel, but this gives a new found respect for them/him and especially this song - which , standing alone , is a brilliant, very emotive and emotional song
Un angel entre nosotros ❤❤❤
Gracias Art por bajar desde el cielo a derramar tu dulzura 🎉
sobre nosotros
Over and over, the song touches, lifts and warms like a fire on the beach making smores&resting your soul.❤
Thank you Mr. Art Garfunkel, for the this song that you made for us THIS SONG WILL PLAY IN THE AIR FOREVER!!!. from Philippines/Ireland
You should be thanking Paul Simon for the song. He WROTE it.
He’s absolutely amazing. His music saved me from a dark dark path. I will always be grateful to him.
I am blessed to have been born and lived through those/these times! To have these dudes living at the same time as me. All the greats of music, S & G, P Mccartney, Beatles, rolling stones, Everlys, Elvis, and you know all the rest of them! We have lived though a great time of music haven't we? But sadly they disappear,.... there is someone leaving us every year. The Songwriters and singers that made us happy as we were listening to our favourite songs on the radio while sitting in our bedrooms. And we see these people get old and grey..... and then we look over our shoulder at the mirror, realise that we too, have grown old and grey with them. The music has remained exactly the same.....but we haven't. When we are all gone, and all those singers im talking about, the next generation will not understand what that different type of music did for us way back when we were teenagers.
One of my favorite songs of all time. It's so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
a voice that brings me back, no matter the time passing by. Lovely Art Garfunkel performance!
This is a totally awesome performance -- he took good care of his voice and it shows. Gonna send this to my senior citizen uncle who want to start back singing at 65.
It’s About Time For A New Album
Like A Live Album of all these good songs
Dang! Now that song is going to be stuck in my head for at least a day. It is one of my all-time favorites.
One of the greatest voices
One of the most beautiful song's EVER!!!
💝🙏💝
Keep blessing us with your singing Art, you are very loved in England.
Dear Art (and Simon). I was born in 1967 and wasn´t ever made for this pop-culture. But I love your songs full of love. What can I say, I thank you! And I´m still here. Thank you!
This song is just so special to me because this was my grandpa favorite song when he was younger and he passed away September last year and this was the song at his funeral.
Brilliant
Love this performance
We all want to live long but don't want to grow old
I been watching La bamba and watching this video makes me reflect on the life of Ritchie Valens
Life and time is so precious and unfortunately short lived even if you live to 100 it still is short lived
Thank you for sharing this video
I truly appreciate it greatly

What a voice. Still after all these years!!
The great Art with the greatest song ever, well played indeed sir...

This made me cry because the performance is so beautiful.
Thank you for being a reason I signed up for chorus and fell in love with music and harmony. Your voice is a tender hug to the soul. One of the best Ever
Goosebumps
So Many Brilliant songs they made. And Art’s solo stuff too! Great memories
Nao acredito que esse e outros sucessos ainda tocam os nossos coracoes, musica boa nunca some, apenas deixamos ela de lado e quando bate a saudade nos retornamos onde a deixamos!
So very true
How time pass years.
And the voice
Will never pass.
My favorite song, I will always sing this everytime I get a chance

definitely fall asleep and go back in childhood's memories when i listen to paul and Garfunkel
Ya know, when it comes to Rock & Roll, The Who have always been my favorite band. But when it comes to true Americana-Folk-Rock, there's no one that beats Artie Garfunkel & Paul Simon. Thanks for posting this video...
Hi Tim thank you so much for your channel im a fan of Paul and Art ilove to watch your vlog in this time of Quarantine all over the World and this is a time to watch your channel thank you God bless Tim
Art, you still have it. You are an amazing man.
So beautiful Art, i always loved his fantastic voice for the past 40 years and will till my end.❤❤❤
Job well done, cracked it, thank you Mr Art Garfunkel, sail on Silver dude.
When I was 14 years old, that was my song. That was so many years ago...50 to be exact...but that song still moves me.
dear Tim , this record is very valuable.
shows that real musicians never lose their love of music inspiration. For the real musician, music is the oxygen he needs to live. many many thanks
my god, that voice.....since my childhood days....the sounds of my life.
He still has it! ... I had my doubts ... but he still has it! Is it 100% the same? No, but I have to give him MAJOR PROPS!! I love him! 💕💕
I once made the remark "My gosh, look how old that star is" My granddaughter replied, when just 7 years old, "Well grandma, did you think you were going to get old, while everybody else would stay young"? Actually I guess I did!
His voice gives me goosebumps.
This is a guy who actually has a sense of humor AND a personality in one . Followed Arts singing for years and he`s still going. Marvelous. Respect for the Guy .
Semplicemente mitico. Grazieeeee
