December 19, 1987 (broadcast in 1988) - In a command performance before Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Art Garfunkel sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" at the Prince's Trust concert at the London Palladium.

Paul Simon knew what he was doing when he let Art Garfunkel sing this song, and Art in turn gave the best performance of the song that I have ever heard, great job by both,,Paul and Artie

Absolutely beautifully written song by the Master, Paul Simon. A masterpiece of a song. No one else could possibly sing this timeless and beautiful song though, except Artie. I love these two and wish they'd put differences aside, and make up. Together even with their differences, they were One. Love both of them.

Maybe it's not just the demands on them. Art had a vocal chord give out during a concert. It had to have been awful.
This was a magic I didn't understand when I was young. It is so true that Simon had a unique gift, but no one brought it to life like Garfunkel. He was the vocal magic that made Simon's ideas come to life. Neither were as strong apart. This is why their greatest hits album is still my favorite, even after all these years.

I've seen almost every live version of him singing this on YTand in EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE no matter how many times I watch, it has always brought tears to my eyes at the end. EVERY SINGLE TIME. He is masterful with this song.
Yes. My heart breaks with it. It is a spring morning after a rain, and the waters are rushing and tearing at the bridge on which I stand, and Art begins to sing. The water may still seem feirce, but his gentle voice calms it. The softness of his voice lets you know all is ok even if you are washed away. That is the magic of them together. Simon & Garfunkel are the only ones who carry you over the bridge, but they can only do it together.
He is simply one of the greatest, if not the greatest of all time. Thank you Art for singing that wonderful song.

Norma Verleni I live in Cape Coral. Wish I had known he was here, I would have gone. My son dated Larry Knetchel’s granddaughter. Larry won a Grammy for the original piano version Simon and Garfunkel did of this song.

With all due respect--I love this song--one of my all-time favorites.
That being said, I always thought it came off a bit weird live. It's so dramatic, I always feel a little let down when I see it live, and Arty's chops were so outstanding in 1970, it's hard to reproduce live.

Gifted. Feeling the lyrics was his burden. The pain, the joy, are all present. What an era he performed in. With all the great singers such as Micheal Jackson; Freddie Mercury; he managed to stand out alongside the greatest of them all. Now music is ridiculous and unmemorable. Unlike Elvis; or Michael or Freddie and Art Garfunkle. I'm so glad to have lived while they were alive. Elvis I missed as he died before I was born. But through reputation I watched his performances and realised why they called him king. Michael Jackson also earned his king of pop. Art Garfunkle has earned the king of Tears. Freddie was the king of the octave. I miss them all. Long may they reign.

after concert in central park, all performances of this song were passable. worth listening too, sometimes barely. his voice at the time of the recording was angelic, clearly nothing like it here and later
Yea ! "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - a unique neoclassical song (with sweet melody & meaningful lyrics) which suits especially the E Flat Major key, i.e. singing it in a different key would noticeably sound a bit less pleasing & emphatic.
One of my favorite piano pieces during my early college days, way back 1969- 70s until that song was more popular when it became a Grammy Award winner by 1971.
