Followers of shredding will not understand the complexity of fingerpicking where EACH finger of both hands has to follow its own rhythm independently yet have to create a composite rhythm pattern. It takes more practice time to learn Anji by S&G than Stairway by Zeppelin.
I was at a funeral a few years ago. Instead of the usual holy songs the family played this as the coffin was laid to rest. Everyone got goose bumps and cried their eyes out. It was truly beautiful.
Simon & Garfunkel are artistically unimpeachable. Andy Williams was in a class of his own, with a silky voice that sounded like a roll of velvet softly cascading down a gentle slope. This is an exquisite performance of one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written. Nothing like this will ever come again, and I feel very fortunate to have been around during this wonderful era of music.
Art Garfunkel’s voice had such an effortless, open quality to it, and great range. Simon’s writing was second to none. And Andy Williams was such an amazing vocalist himself. Great stuff.
I know right? Art looks like he's not even trying whenever he sings - no straining or facial expressions of effort - just this unreal clarity that's like pouring water whenever he sings. What a gift to be given and personally I'm so glad he shared it with the world. Him and Simon together are just à match made in heaven .
I am sixty nine years old and had never heard this. Devine inspiration. I didn’t think this song could be elevated because it was perfect in, and of itself. But, hot damn, Andy did it righteous justice!
I bought this when it first came out as a track on an EP (Vinyl, remember?) I listened to it over and over, blown away by the simplicity and purity of the sounds Art and Paul made together. Hearing it now in 2024 I am transported back to a time when my whole life was before me. In my 72nd year and still, I hope, with years to come, I shall go to my music room, pick up the guitar, and play this for myself, for you and for all of us who grew up in that magical era. Peace and joy be with you all.
Simon, Garfunkel, & Andy was absolutely fantastic. They should have recorded a group of songs together. I’m going to listen to the above again, & possibly again. ❤️❤️❤️ 🎼🎶🎵
A lot of people never realized how great a singer that Andy Williams was. That was the epitome of a super group!! I first heard this song when Paul Simon reworked the lyrics from 2 or 3 different songs into the version that was released as the lead track from the album Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme in 1966. I first saw this video about a year ago and it never stops giving me chills!!

Long time fan of Simon and Garfunkel's but never heard this before. this is absolutely incredible and Andy Williams is a perfect fit for their voices in Harmony and he actually adds something to this to where now I am spoiled for life and this is my favorite version of this song now. I wonder if Andy ever did anything else with them if not it would be a shame. They could have easily made an album together because the three of their voices together are just incredible. Not sure if Simon and Garfunkel's egos (or record labels) could have handled that but we would have been spoiled nonetheless. In any event I am so grateful to have found this treasure!
The best version of this song anywhere, 3 breathtakingly talented men and Andy Williams helps turn this already great song into something truly celestial.
Andy added another layer of richness to a beautiful song! I am really impressed that he respected the song and the genre enough to sing it the way Simon and Garfunkel meant for it to be sung, and not turn it into an "Andy Williams' song." It really highlights what a lovely voice he had.
That was beautiful. Andy Williams was a fine singer and musician and such a nice man. I met him once at Western Recorders in Los Angeles. He was a big star at the time and I was just a lowly roadie, but he couldn't have been more gracious and warm.
Growing up my family rarely missed watching The Andy Williams Show, it was one of the highlights of our week. My dad bought a few of Andy's albums, I remember them well. Though I didn't own any of their albums, I was and remain a Simon and Garfunkel fan. This performance with Andy Williams is truly classic. Thanks for sharing it here.
When I was a kid.. I loved Paul Simon.. but always loved the harmonies. As I am now a Grandma.. I see Art Garfunkel as a angel spirit on earth, cloaked in a human body. And Paul Simon.. POET.
That was a great rendition of this song. It seems I can't help but be on the edge of tears when ever I hear Simon & Garfunkel sing this. It's just so beautifully somber. These kind of songs remind me that music is also an art form. Andy Williams did a great job adding to what was already a fantastic duo.
David, I am the same way! You put it perfectly! Listening to them sing anything, never fails to move me to tears, too! Listening to them always gives me chills & touches my heart!❤️
My apologies to Andy. I always despised his shows and never took time to listen, but now I know that he can sing and I am sorry I never gave him my ear.

Me too and it's amazing..... Wow is the right word
Me too!
This is absolutely unbelievable, an absolute perfect masterclass in harmony. Literally gives me goosebumps every time..
Me too! I just came across this now and I'm speechless! Such beauty is breath taking and ethereal and also seems as it can't be real its that perfect. Divine.
@@gottawonder9091 Its profound grace and beauty is overwhelming. I have watched this ten times or more and each time I weep.
Richard you are so right!
I love the liquid-sounding quality of the guitar.
Paul Simon might not have the in your face soloing virtuosity, but he makes in beautiful arpeggios and fingerstyle phrases.
@@ezzong , hey man, you mean he don't shred on a 24 fret PRS?
Followers of shredding will not understand the complexity of fingerpicking where EACH finger of both hands has to follow its own rhythm independently yet have to create a composite rhythm pattern. It takes more practice time to learn Anji by S&G than Stairway by Zeppelin.
beautiful version of this. I swear Art Garfunkel can sing with anybody
Andy Williams was something special - and Simon and Garfunkel still are - thank you !
I was at a funeral a few years ago. Instead of the usual holy songs the family played this as the coffin was laid to rest. Everyone got goose bumps and cried their eyes out. It was truly beautiful.
How unique. But what a beautiful, soothing song to choose at such a fitting time.
Never a more beautiful song was written. Andy did it justice.
It's musical poetry , Quintessentially English .
Very old traditional English song ❤
Simon & Garfunkel are artistically unimpeachable. Andy Williams was in a class of his own, with a silky voice that sounded like a roll of velvet softly cascading down a gentle slope. This is an exquisite performance of one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written. Nothing like this will ever come again, and I feel very fortunate to have been around during this wonderful era of music.
This was a time when art and the art of music could be broadcast on national TV, routinely.
I love how happy Andy is during this performance.
Andy Williams had probably the only voice that could equal the angelic quality of Garfunkel. Beautiful.
素晴らしいハーモニーに心打たれます。
永遠なれ。
Amazing! Andy actually added to it to make it even better, and that's not easy when it's already great.
Andy Williams had one of the smoothest voices I've ever heard. Beautiful. He was perfect with them.
I am sixty nine years old and had never heard this.
Devine inspiration. I didn’t think this song could be elevated because it was perfect in, and of itself. But, hot damn, Andy did it righteous justice!
The only live version which accurately replicates the original studo arrangement. Exquisite.
For fuck's sake, this is so beautiful. They are all smiling that smile when you know you are making art.
Mr Simon almost lost it 'bout 1/2 way thru. I thought he was going to laugh-sing the line
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Art and Andy are awesome together, you can see how much they enjoyed singing together
They didn't write it though. But I agree
We are so lucky to be on Earth during this era.
Simon, Garfunkel, & Andy was absolutely fantastic. They should have recorded a group of songs together. I’m going to listen to the above again, & possibly again. ❤️❤️❤️ 🎼🎶🎵
I think chilling is a good description. The beauty of this in the backdrop of the chaos of 1968
It was written in the time of the Tudors.
Renegade Wa Andy Williams knew his limitation's as a singer. He world work with other singers in his range. Tony Bennet ...YES Beverly Sills ...NO Pavarotti ...NOSinatra...YES Maria Callas...NO Bing Crosby...NO WHAT IS THE CORECT ANSERS FOR THESE
cookingprof Then he was a smart man.
+Renegade Wa 100 % correct! And what a monster of a song...
Andies voice is incredible I didn't even know who he was and that really bothers me. I feel like someone that has a voice like that should have been recognized much more.
+william Brown - Andy Williams also sang "Moon River" which I loved...one of my favorites!
These three are my favorite Singers. Even before S&G, I used to sing by heart all Andy's hits. Lovely Voice and Great Performances. Fortunately Internet saved these precious gems to us ...
Truly the best version of this song. Such pure harmonies, such clear guitar, just beautiful. Would’ve loved it if Andy Williams would’ve recorded an album with Simon & Garfunkel when they were still together and he was still alive.
There are many who do the acoustic thing....It's rare to hear it on this level! Absolutely Dope! Love it!
I never heard Andy Williams singing with Simon and Garfunkel, His sweet voice went extremely well with this beautiful song. It was magical to me. Thanks for posting it.
I just want to echo what everyone else is saying, simply stunning, haunting and perfect. This is a classic.
Agreed.
The effect is so calm, sincere, graceful, and what beautiful harmonies!
The best version of this song anywhere, 3 breathtakingly talented men and Andy Williams helps turn this already great song into something truly celestial.
One of the best versions. They blend so well together. Why can’t you find such beauty today in music. Art, Andy and Paul have angel voices.
I agree. 😇
Andy added another layer of richness to a beautiful song! I am really impressed that he respected the song and the genre enough to sing it the way Simon and Garfunkel meant for it to be sung, and not turn it into an "Andy Williams' song." It really highlights what a lovely voice he had.
I find it very odd that you thought he would disrespect their song.
Andy Williams and Simon and Garfunkel fan who lived in Scarborough (England) with a true love of mine!
Andy had a great voice, this is beyond beautiful
You come back and listen in a thousand years it's still the finest ❤
That was beautiful. Andy Williams was a fine singer and musician and such a nice man. I met him once at Western Recorders in Los Angeles. He was a big star at the time and I was just a lowly roadie, but he couldn't have been more gracious and warm.
Gorgeous blend of men’s voices- absolute perfection.
Thanks for sharing it here.
to me, this video displays the brillance of art garfunkel...he is masterful
Tom Price - and Simons range isn't bad, but his guitar playing is so good
being a duet or a band is more of a chemistry... so, eventually both play a crucial role in the outcome ;)
I was a bit over the edge, but not as much as when I hear the song 'Acheinu"
So true, this trip sounded great together
David, I am the same way! You put it perfectly! Listening to them sing anything, never fails to move me to tears, too! Listening to them always gives me chills & touches my heart!❤️
Incredible and perfect blending of voices...warm, velvety and comforting.
Even for my french ears, it's sound incredibly. I love it.
One more angelic voice added to the two existing ones. True timeless mastery.
My apologies to Andy. I always despised his shows and never took time to listen, but now I know that he can sing and I am sorry I never gave him my ear.
Lyrics: (Feel free to correct me and have fun)
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Without no seams nor needle work
Then she'll be a true love of mine
Tell her to find me an acre of land
(in the deep forest green)
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
(Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested ground)
Between the salt water and the sea strands
(Bedclothes the child of the mountain)
Then she'll be a true love of mine
(Sleeps unaware of the clarion call)
Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather
(Blazing in scarlet battalions)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Generals order their soldiers to kill)
And gather it all in a bunch of heather
(A cause they've long ago forgotten)
Then she'll be a true love of mine
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
🌲🌷Kai: THANK YOU SO MUCH, FOR THE LYRICS ! How kind of you to share them with us.
I think it’s candlewick shirt.
You've got some lines missing...
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt
(On the side of a hill in the deep forest green)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested ground)
Without no seams nor needlework
(Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain)
Then she'll be a true love of mine
(Sleeps unaware of the clarion call)
Tell her to find me an acre of land
(On the side of a hill, a sprinkling of leaves)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Washes the grave with silvery tears)
Between the salt water and the sea strand
(A soldier cleans and polishes a gun)
Then she'll be a true love of mine
Tell her to reap it in a sickle of leather
(War bellows, blazing in scarlet battalions)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Generals order their soldiers to kill)
And to gather it all in a bunch of heather
(And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten)
Then she'll be a true love of mine
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
@@Pluggit1953 No, it's cambric, which is a finely-woven cloth - originally linen, later cotton. Now known as 'Chambray'.
Thanks
Like Andy Williams said...they didn't need lights and dancers and all that. Pure, raw talent. That's all that's needed. And they had it. Mesmerizing.
This is mesmerizing! Genius alien visitors came to touch our hearts. Ridiculously brilliant. And this is from a rap artist!
Andy Williams called Simon & Garfunkel "my brothers" Andy was absolutely touched by their profound talent!
Anyone 2022? Goddamn.. So beautiful... wished we where living in this time...
I've been listening to this since I first discovered it, about five years ago. For that matter, I've been listening to S&G since _Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme_ came out, and their work still finds my turntable and CD player regularly. And to have Williams join them? I mean Get Out Of Dodge! Truly transcendent!
2024 September 2nd
It’s Jan 2021, can’t help but watch this again, one of my ever favorite collaboration.
I’ll never understand how any one with a heart could put a thumbs down on this talented trio and beautiful song.
There are a lot of miserable people out there who can't see beauty in anything.
Perhaps it's the lack of half naked dancers that makes them dislike this.
Or just the lack of brain...
I think these are the same people who leave laugh reacts on Facebook posts that aren't funny at all... just to troll and attempt to upset and needle folks
They just don't understand what self highest accomplishment is. No matter what you are and what you do.
OMG i could listen to the 3 of them sing all night, this song is so mesmerizing
And beautiful...the sound soothes me so. 😢
Me too!
I've just discovered this jewel!!!! WOW!!!! How beautiful! Three sublime voices!
*chills! This song is astoundingly beautiful and timeless. Well done, Andy! 🥰😊
Andy Williams made this performance, as smooth as butter.
Totally stunning !!
Precious ... damn it. That brought a tear to this old fella's eye.
Me too, man.
So I'm not the only one...
Singing Canticles requires a high level of concentration . You need to be focused on the other singers because you have few other musical cues.
These three men do it well. IMHO
+cookingprof Indeed. And looking at their faces and how they're enjoying it, it's stunning to see how easy it comes to them.
Perfection
Your humble opinion is right on target. ...
I sang Canticles in High School Madrigals, and the concentration needed to perpetually be in melodic balance with the other singers was a wonderful lesson in team work. I loved it.
Andy Williams the greatest if not one of the greatest balladeers in music history
The guitar work is the most haunting ly beautiful sound ever. Very medieval!
Love ❤ Andy, Simon & Art.
"Scarborough Fair" is from Heaven.
It is a communication from all loving souls that have passed to be shared with all of the souls still present & able to listen. ❤
