...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need. Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time. So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.
his singing teacher in school said he couldn’t sing , he proved her wrong and became the greatest entertainer who ever lived , no one will ever come close to the king . Fr Canada 🇨🇦
You're absolutely right, there's no one better than this man. I'm a classical musician and don't know about any non-classical singer who could reach even Elvis' feet.
I’m over 60 and feel it , at least in my bod - feel 30 in mind ! One of the first songs that I can remember hearing was from Elvis and I’ve been a fan ever since . Never got to see him live , wish I could’ve . I was 14 myself when Elvis came to KC - I lived 50 miles north . Dad said I was too young to try to go that there’d be another time . Unfortunately , there wasn’t . He is the GOAT !!!
He was the greatest entertainer that ever lived ,besides the most gorgeous beautiful sexy man I have ever seen. I loved him then and I love him still today.🥰🥰😘👅💋💋👀❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree. Fullness. Depth. Warmth. Could hit highs and lows. Probably in such good shape he could make low tones audible where others couldn't. I know opera singers personally and they both rave about his skills.
I know I've said it somewhere before this comment, but I must again. This is the greatest live performance ever. Period. This is a 36 year old man, gone from the music scene for a long while thanks to Uncle Sam and Colonel Parker and his dream of Elvis as a movie star. I've seen most all of them, rock and roll speaking, the Stones, Queen with Freddie, Jethro Tull, on and on. This performance puts every other one to second place at maximum. They didn't call him the King for nothing you know...thank you Elvis Presley for changing the world forever, in a great way...RIP ELVIS PRESLEY
Friend, congratulations on your words. In another video of this song (original version with subtitles in Portuguese), a Brazilian fan was very happy to express the following words (facts): "... there are good singers, there are great singers, there are excellent, wonderful, spectacular singers... . and... there is Elvis Presley"!!!!
I agree with you that "This is the greatest live performance ever" among popular music and rock and roll singers. In fact, we have an unimpeachable authority on the quality of this performance: none other than Paul Simon, the composer and original singer of this song (along with Art Garfunkel) was blown away when he saw video of this. He considered it the best version out of hundreds of covers, and said something like, "How can you compete with that?"
God almighty. His voice was just beyond anything that anyone else can produce. He can be delicate, warm and then blow the back wall down. A gorgeous arrangement, too. Perfect.
Got you beat. I am 72 and was going to his movies at age ten. I loved Elvis. I was at my mom's house when we heard on the radio that he had died. We were both so sad...
All those who love good music from a man who knew how to communicate and transmit hope and love to a wicked world which destroyed him. RIP Elvis you are one-off, much loved and missed.
@@HawkeClan69 Simon and Garfunkel were amazing, and gave this Elvis cover of the song their highest praise. The arrangement (by Elvis) and vocalists are hauntingly beautiful.
For you youngsters that listen to music from the 80's until now. You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth. You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear and you can understand the words, and the music has tune and rhythm. Enjoy while you still can.
its not a question over who was better than who or who did the greatest this or that.its just a fine performance in a soulfull way from someone who people dont really know his immense quality and the stuff he recorded such as countless blues and gospel tracks
"You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth." - Woah hold your horses, that is YOUR subjective meaning. I completely disagree with this statement. "You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear" - Actually this is NOT crystal clear, at least not in my ears. Too much vibrato if I might add. If there is something that's *crystal* clear it's the horns and the piano playing.
Today we think back to the day the World stood still : 16th August 1977, Elvis Presley had died. I was 18. I was devastated, I cried a lot, bought more of his records... He was loved in my Country. Even the older folks liked Elvis because he sang beautiful gospel songs. Thank you Elvis for the legacy you left behind. You will never be forgotten. ✝️🙏🎧🎶🇿🇦🌍😥❤️

I LOVE the wording of your comment...except I wish you would’ve said “King Of Music!” As Elvis said “There is only one King! I am just an entertainer!” 😁
This is an outstanding performance, simply the best, but to say that Elvis "never walked through a song" is a bit of a stretch. In many of his concerts in the 1970s he would quickly "walk through" some of the original big hits from the 1950s like Hound Dog, All Shook Up, etc. because fans still wanted to hear those songs but he didn't want to spend much energy or time on them.
No one sang this song like Elvis. No one could sing like Elvis… PERIOD. My grandfather was Elvis’ superior whilst he was in the Army in Germany. They remained friends. I have no sisters and Lisa was an only child; so Elvis asked my parents if I’d like to live at Graceland each summer. They were the best 5 summers of my childhood. I would go to Graceland for Christmas sometimes, too. Elvis LOVED Christmas! We had our own closed world. I lived at Graceland from the ages of 7-11. I was there that awful August day in 1977 when he died. It was so sad. Then Lisa Marie’s son died via self-inflicted GSW, and then Lisa. 💔 Lisa was a grandmother when she died. Danielle Riley Keough’s daughter is named “Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen.” Her middle name is “Storm,” as was her brother’s. Benjamin was born in Florida during a terrible storm. Before going on stage at this concert, a man called one of the Sweet Inspirations the “N word.” It was Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney Houston. Elvis had security kick the guy out! At :38 Elvis looks at Cissy Houston whilst singing the lyrics, “I’m on your side.” He smiled as he looked at her.
I am Chinese born and a fan from 1958 to now...close to 60 years. During this time many great entertainers have appeared. Beatles, Stones, BGees, Roy Orbison,Michael Jackson and others. I especially loved Abba. But truly I believe none can come close to Elvis. He was just special and even the other greats must agree as many of them have done publicly. There will not be another one like him and for sure not in my life time. He is America's greatest gift to the world.
Persona Email: As I stated in my initial comment, a Professor of music attributed Elvis' extraordinary vocals to where his vocal registers were placed. We know vocal register placement is determined during 9 month pregnancy. If one believes (and I do), in divinity, then God chose to give Elvis those vocals for a divine purpose and we will never know that exact, specific divine purpose.

He can't..... Elvis was the most incredibly handsome man with the most incredible voice.....his legacy and life is the epoch for which the 20th century was built. He was one in a 1 trillion.....we might not see another human being bring so much to the table for another 1000 years. Incredible in every way.
HE CAN & HE DID Paul is a very humble man. and his music ALLOWS us to do these amazing covers he was VERY complimentary to disturbed version of sound of silence YES I agree that this Elvis version is AMAZING but I prefer the original by the person who wrote it , and Paul got a fat check every time Elvis performed it .

There are very few songs Elvis covered that were not better than the original the only one i can think of is Bob Dylans tomorrow is a long time. Unfortunately Dylan's version is better in my opinion. But ANY OTHER SONG Elvis EVER covered was 1000x better than the original!!! #facts!
@James: Ich kann das verstehen. In meinen schlechten Zeiten gab mir Elvis sehr viel Kraft. That's exactly what Elvis wanted. Elvis greatest wish was that he wanted to make people happy.

I've heard quite of few people sang this heartfelt song and they all did good. But, the voice of Elvis Presley is much more stronger and powerful. He sang it perfectly. I can listen to Elvis all day every day!!. This man is/was AWESOME.
That is a biblical voice. Its stirs your soul. I am not religious this man brings me to tears 42 years after his death. He will do it as long as he is heard. Bless.
Nothing comforts me more than hearing Elvis sing this song. It is exquisite. No other vocalist compares. He was a musical genius moved by God. Even Paul Simon was floored.
My favorite moment is the "Sail on silver girl" part. I love how his voice get low "See how they shine, Oh if you need a friend". It sounds like a lullaby to me. So I dedicate this part to my daughter.

Quote from a famous (in Brazil) and deceased singer: "Elvis Presley's voice is the only one I can listen to, repeatedly, every day, without getting tired"!!!
UGH the last note!!! OMG!!! He was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Listen to the very last word...just one word... MIND and his voice!!! This is THE BEST version of this song EVER!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The 3:00 part to the end is my favorite part. Gosh it's just amazing the way he sings. My mom would play his music and we watched this on VHS. It takes me back to when she was alive . Elvis was just a gift to this world that you will never see again. You just watch him sing and get drawn in.
There will never be another Elvis. He was everything. Beauty, voice, charisma, talent, generous heart and a stage presence and entertainer that can never be matched. He is missed.
When Paul Simon wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water, It Became a Goldmine here on Earth, But When Elvis Presley recorded Bridge Over Troubled Water it Transcended To The Heavens Above and it Became Clear that it was a Christian Song ☝️🙏❤️
Bridge over troubled water is probably Paul Simons number one masterpeice, among many masterpiece songs. This version from Elvis elevates it even further up in heaven high. What a composition from Simon! What a powerful vocals from the King!
I am so pleased my 16yr old son has discovered Elvis, albeit through the movie, but he 'gets it', the talent, the humour, the tenderness of EP, he's not listening to anything else at the moment. We even had to get him a taking care of business ring! Great stuff.
This is also happening to me. I am 43 and I didn't like or dislike Elvis, I just ignored him. After seing the movie (already two times) I am an absolute fan. His live performances are out of this world. He hits your heart on every note. He is probably the only one that performs better on stage than in the studio.
@@miquelmarti6537 It is so unreal that I was EXACTLY the same way. I did like some of Elvis' music, but did not pay much attention. The movie made me realise how much I was missing in my life without even knowing it. I spent three decades without Elvis and I am not wasting another second! Nobody in the world ever going match him and this is coming from a MJ fan!
I'm Gen X and just saw the movie with my Gen Z son. We both loved it! Be sure to sit and listen to the music during the ending credits..some amazing fusion in there: Eminem wordsmithing his way through The King and I (Jailhouse Rock beat!), and plenty of other artists.. The movie? As in the new one? I thought it was terrible. Just my opinion, but jump cuts and barely covering his life with too many wasted shots and filller. Ugh. I watched it with my mother and she was mad we spent $7 to rent it. 😄

What a truly one of a kind talent and man. Rest peacefully King.
@Rach, research Pastor Bob Joyce and let me know what you think😉 Elvis has always loved the Lord, & he wanted out of the lifestyle he was living. If you go to his church, he sings there, but please be respectful and do not ask him if he is Elvis. The Lord has made all things new for him & that's the way he wants it. God bless him.❤
@@debbieg217 I have seen these rumours before but he loved his little girl so much and would not have ever left her and allowed her to mourn for him! @@deadpoetstodd agreed! I know people desperately want to believe he is alive but what they don't fully realise is that Elvis is still with us. Not in a physical disguise as another person but his spirit is still very much part of this world. Prior to that, he was on the sidelines as someone who had some good songs that I liked but now - my soul has been burst wide open! Another phenomenal fact about this is Elvis didn’t have any stage monitors so he couldn’t hear himself. How he stays on pitch and key is absolutely incredible
This is incredible. I've been a fan my entire life and didn't know this. If you don't know this, no worries, but I have friends who will always challenge me on this stuff: Any idea where I can find the fact that you're referring to? Only found minimal stuff on a google search.
SFMC 98 I found it just by reading interviews with his sound guys. It looks like he didn’t have monitors until 1971, so two years after the Las Vegas shows started
Steven Yourke In the book “Careless Love - The Unmaking of Elvis Presley” it has interviews with his sound engineers who talk about how he didn’t have any type of monitors until 1971, and when he finally had them the first time, and he heard himself when he was singing See See Rider he turned around and looked at the sound man like a kid in a candy store. Also if he had monitors in 1969 and 1970 in Vegas, where are they at? There is tons of video footage and thousands of photos from all these shows but yet there isn’t a single video or photo with a monitor anywhere in it. Not even on the side of the stage.
@@syourke3 I think you're a little uninformed here. Generally, whenever you go to a concert, you'll see two types of speakers. You've got the ones that face the audience (the PA) and the ones that face the performers (the monitors). The performers can't hear the ones that face away from them, or if they can, its distant and poor quality. The ones on stage allow them to hear well. Nowadays, many performers use ear pieces instead of stage monitors.
Close your eyes folks and go back in a time machine to that period when Elvis sang this live and you are part of the audience. That’s how good this version is.

Be happy, Im just 60, but feel like a 40s. This eve I just be awake and listening Elvis all night long.
It’s more than just perfect pitch. It’s the warmth and depth. There will never be another like Elvis.
He had a perfect pitch

@@AgenorGracindoDeOliveira Period!! I love that quote. ❤️❤️
I'm 48 years old and just heard this for the first time.....blew me away!!!!....Elvis is still the King and always will be

For you youngsters that listen to music from the 80's until now.
You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth.
You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear and you can understand the words, and the music has tune and rhythm.
Enjoy while you still can.

its not a question over who was better than who or who did the greatest this or that.its just a fine performance in a soulfull way from someone who people dont really know his immense quality

Without autotune and without in-ear monitor. Pure brilliance pure beauty.

What a Load of Crap!!!

There will not be another one like him and for sure not in my life time. He is America's greatest gift to the world.

What r u talking about? Of course he could hear himself! What does he need a monitor for in order to hear himself? Makes no sense.
In tears writing this, we played this at my sister's funeral 4 days ago, she was Elvis mad. Rest in peace with your idol sis, in my heart forever xx
May she rest in peace 🙏
Deepest sympathies susan

Close your eyes folks and go back in a time machine to that period when Elvis sang this live and you are part of the audience. That’s how good this version is.
