Jacob has nothing to do with Elvis, I was curious and just tonight I've listened to the Jacob Collier studio version even the live version. Collier uses so many modern technologies that help a lot to do a show and he disguises the original song "Bridge over troubled water". There's no the same feeling, strength, emotions and shades of the Elvis version, even the choirs of Elvis are more genuine. As I was listening to the beginning of the studio version I thought that Jacob was trying to imitate Michael Jackson.

I am Chinese born and a fan from 1958 to now...close to 60 years. During this time many great entertainers have appeared. Beatles, Stones, BGees, Roy Orbison,Michael Jackson and others. I especially loved Abba. But truly I believe none can come close to Elvis. He was just special and even the other greats must agree as many of them have done publicly. I just came back from Elvis week 2016, the very first time I ever saw Graceland and I was so moved when I was there! I could feel Elvis' love all around and it was so beautiful, especially the meditation garden....I even love Elvis more now, not sure if that is possible....I did leave a piece of my heart behind at Graceland, until I can visit next time

The 3:00 part to the end is my favorite part. Gosh it's just amazing the way he sings. My mom would play his music and we watched this on VHS. It takes me back to when she was alive . Elvis was just a gift to this world that you will never see again. You just watch him sing and get drawn in.
This song really helped me through a difficult time. My mother died and I never grieved for about four years. I was only 14 and for years Elvis helped me through. Legend.
I can relate. I heard this song sung for the first time in New York 1970. My father got my mother tickets for her birthday. She was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. The week before the concert my father had a heart attack and died. I went with Mom in his place. His very last words to me were "take your Mom..." I was ten. It was like Art Garfunkel was singing this just to me and my Mom. I'm sure lots of people felt like that at that concert. It was the right song at just the right time. My mother of course bought the album, wore it out, bought a replacement and repeated this for several years. She had been widowed in her thirties left with five children and I was the oldest. On more than one occasion she put the cap back on a bottle of pills she had intended to swallow after listening to this song. She was depressed and suicidal for years but this song always pulled her through. I'd have been an orphan were it not for this song. Elvis did a good job hear. But it is difficult to like any better than that first performance back in 1970.
No actually I don't. I never cared for his singing. Some was OK but the best version of this song was by Garfunkel by far. This song was written specifically for Garfunkel's singing style and voice. Not only did Elvis NOT sing this better but I could think of a dozen singers who have sung it far better. I think my biggest problem with Elvis is that he betrayed his roots and transformed himself into a Las Vegas clown act.

Paul Simon knew that he couldn't preform anywhere close to the way Elvis sang Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Elvis said he liked the song because Paul was a story teller. Paul said that after he heard Elvis sing the song it was unbelievable and he couldn't compete with that. I am glad that Elvis recorded this song.
I saw him in 1973, he performed this song that evening.... as I remember that ticket cost me $20 ... possibly the best $20 I ever spent.

Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time.
So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.

We often drive a wedge when we are sharing the Gospel. She said timing is everything. He is not prideful and boastful. I just came back from Elvis week 2016, the very first time I ever saw Graceland and I was so moved when I was there! I could feel Elvis' love all around and it was so beautiful, especially the meditation garden....I even love Elvis more now, not sure if that is possible....I did leave a piece of my heart behind at Graceland, until I can visit next time

The 3:00 part to the end is my favorite part. Gosh it's just amazing the way he sings. My mom would play his music and we watched this on VHS. It takes me back to when she was alive . Elvis was just a gift to this world that you will never see again. You just watch him sing and get drawn in.

I can relate. I heard this song sung for the first time in New York 1970. My father got my mother tickets for her birthday. She was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. The week before the concert my father had a heart attack and died. I went with Mom in his place. His very last words to me were "take your Mom..." I was ten. It was like Art Garfunkel was singing this just to me and my Mom. I'm sure lots of people felt like that at that concert. It was the right song at just the right time. My mother of course bought the album, wore it out, bought a replacement and repeated this for several years. She had been widowed in her thirties left with five children and I was the oldest. On more than one occasion she put the cap back on a bottle of pills she had intended to swallow after listening to this song. She was depressed and suicidal for years but this song always pulled her through. I'd have been an orphan were it not for this song. Elvis did a good job hear. But it is difficult to like any better than that first performance back in 1970.

No actually I don't. I never cared for his singing. Some was OK but the best version of this song was by Garfunkel by far. This song was written specifically for Garfunkel's singing style and voice. Not only did Elvis NOT sing this better but I could think of a dozen singers who have sung it far better. I think my biggest problem with Elvis is that he betrayed his roots and transformed himself into a Las Vegas clown act.
