did yall not realize those were robots/androids/cyborgs on the ship?. . . Thats why when she ask for water they basicaly ignore her but they do pay attention to the half robot half plant levi baby. Look at heir feet and the wires draging when they walk to the ship.

Never even thought about that but you’re totally right. Lightyear had a lot of potential and some really cool concepts but it just missed the mark. Honestly I like that movie more than most but it still disappointed me. If it had a little bit more of this it totally would’ve work. Pixar just doesn’t feel as bold these days. I want them to return to their former glory. At least Inside Out 2 looks promising.

Great show. Started watching a few weeks ago and just finished the last episode. This is one of the best science fiction series I've experienced this year. Another season would be a treat but the original story was satisfying on its own. It would be interesting to see how Levi's offspring will evolve and interact with humans and the planet's environment .
Going into the finale, I had no interest in a season 2. Not that the show was bad, but it was so unique and special I was satisfied with a mini series. Then that epilogue throws so much at you, seemingly setting where things are going. I feel like that’s implying the want to keep going. I also agree this is some of the best sci-fi. Not just in animation but from everything of recent years.
A respectful and mature approach to religion in season 2 would add to my enjoyment of this show, my all time favorite scifi book Hyperion handles religion really well and I think the creative team behind Scavengers Reign might be able to surpass Hyperion on those levels, which would be fantastic.
Hyperion is a perfect example of what I would want them to do. Season 2 absolutely can tap into some of the same themes that book does. However, I am always excited for Scavengers Reign to take its own direction. With the themes of environmentalism and harmony with nature, I definitely want them to cover manifest destiny and colonialism. However I do think there are plenty of positive themes to cover with the relationship between nature and religion.
I noticed the most successful creatures are ALL parasites in some way. The survivor/shaman who infects Sam is the result of a parasitic relationship with some type of psychic creature. The relationship gives the host increased survival knowledge and physical ability. Same goes for the psychic salamander thing and the slime mold that colonizes Levi. I wonder if that is intentional and will be a theme that is further explored.
There was definitely a space religion thing going on but the bandages, shuffling and masks/incense made me think maybe it’s a space leper colony. And they also seemed to have technology integrated into them so maybe they blame tech for their situation in a way? So seeing the tech-organic Levi could be either a savior-type thing or heresy or some kind of mix? That’s the vibe I got from them anyway
I dont think a time skip for humanity will happen as we never were really told what sort technological level humanity is at in the first place. In my estimation the church guys are at the same level as humanity was when the crew was traveling through space on the demeter.
regarding religion.. you guys probably saw this too, but I read that the creators of this show were inspired by "Gaia theory," the idea that the planet is alive and all of the life on it is a part of one big organism.
thats clearly what is happening in the show like the different species of bugs and animals rebuilding Levi. that would obviously not make sense if they were all individual animals its clear they are controlled by one intelligent entity

Enjoyed “Raised by Wolves” until the main character gave birth to a flying snake/dragon. Would have been great if “she’d” given birth to something like Levi. . .but noooooo.
The church ship people were NOT interested in Kris. The church ship people are already familiar with us, because there’s a human skull, and they seem humanoid. They were interested in the walking, sentient, conscious plant guy. Kris will tell them where this planet is, and it definitely could turn into colonization
I would like to see more integration of biotechnologies. (Levi) Also, it's unclear what happened to Sem, as I didn't see a flower after his death. It would be logical if the planet saved him, that would also be great. What inspires you guys?
Levi is such a fascinating character. I’ve never seen anything like it. The mixture of technology and nature is not only unique but has a lot to say. Such a perfect way of wrapping the themes of the show together. If we get a season 2, Levi is absolutely something I want to see more of. With one of the Levi creatures on board the ship I imagine it’ll be a massive focus. Sam I’m conflicted on. I believe some people were saying Ursula was wearing his shirt at the end. It was bothering her he wasn’t given a proper burial. So I’m assuming she went back and gave him that. However I think the flowers are important. We see that the flowers are kinda like souls. Once an organism dies they become part of the planet through the flowers. I wonder if we’ll see Sam come back in that way. Through the flowers. The show was making a consistent emphasis on them so I figure they’ll eventually come into play. We really enjoy talking about media together. We found ourselves always getting in depth about movies, shows, and games. James and I have been doing it our entire lives. So we figured we could turn that into a RUclips channel. I liked the ending of course, but i am curious about Kamek and the "cat". The end where Levi blows the cat away was awesome surprising. I was surprised Kamek was holding him, then just walks away. I sincerely hope they produce season 2, and 3 etc. Im surprised there isnt more content on this series, i would enjoy seeing more here.
Season 2 to be or not to be? I think like Primal, season 1 was magical but season 2 was pretty generic. Im always skeptical that a season 2 of Scavengers Reign will live up to the first and sometimes great things dont need to be long. This series reminded me a lot of Nausicaa for all the references ive heard, i havent heard that one directly. Ghiblee yes.
The creators have said their fingers are crossed for a season two and that they’ve mapped it out. They also directly said Nausicaa was one of their main inspirations. What surprised me is they said it was one of their only animation main inspirations while the others were mostly live action.
@HolyPlot Levi reminded me so much of the robot in Laputa Castle in the Sky. The Toxic Jungle in Nausicaa reminded me a bit of the ecosystem and even Ursula herself reminded me of Nausicaa a bit. The Kitty Alien face, Heart Parasite, the Pods, the Spore creature. Some really great designs. If they do a season 2 I'll for sure watch it, but it's going to be hard to live up to the first season.
I think the ending is just to introduce us to a season 2 theme of religion. Season 1 was the beauty/horror of nature, next up, lets fuck with religion. I'm with the first guy that mentioned 40k. The vibes were very similar. Imagine some space theocracy that has been isolated for 150 years. It would seem pretty alien to the average joe.
That’s a possibility for sure. At the end he seems very in tune with nature, in a kind of concerning way. However I’d love for him to grow from this. There’s a lot of powerful character development you could do now that he has to live with all this guilt.
I hope they don't do any relativistic stuff. It's close to time travel, and the #2 rule of scifi is that Time Travel Sucks, it always sucks, it never doesn't suck. Unless you are 1 of 3 Back to the Future movies, you should never, ever have time travel, and relativistic settings just make consequences not matter. It's not interesting, it's not where interesting thing happen. Good Scifi follows the #1 rule of scifi: "Interesting problems, solved in interesting ways." Relativism and time dilation is not an interesting problem, nor an interesting solution. It's a hammy setting forced upon characters that makes any solution unimportant and uninteresting. It's trash. Also I think you're wrong. Cryosleep is about saving resources during the travel, but this is an FTL society.
7:31 I totally see what you are saying here, potential manifest destiny/colonialization themes could totally be introduced. But the last thing I would want for this show is to have yet another Last of the Mohicans clone (I am looking at you, Avatar) or really anything that brings it closer to Avatar. This show did so well by being different. I would hope we don't fall into those old troupes.
How do all three of these chaps gloss over, how the fuck, did a baby mushroom levi end up on that escape craft? I thought the ship with the mummies came from the mushroom planet, they are the survivors or descendents of the survirors who have fixed the demetor and caught up with the escape craft decades or even centuries later.
those alway either missed or completely glossed over the fact that those people were robots/cyborgs and could care less about the human. . . only reason i say they MIGHT of had water is because they had plants. which doesnt really make sense they dont NEED plants either. Look at their feet and the dangling wires when they walk. . . look at what under their clothes around their necks.
also i DOUBT its been that long unless that shuttle was actually pre stoocked. Remeber that life on vesta seemed to grow EXTERMLY fast. also humans dont tend to live for centuries without statis and she looked like she had been awake for the whole trip. What concerns me most is how did the much fungi/plant life get into the shuttle to the point where it was able to take over in such diversity which means than life can EASILY spread beyond that planet.
its amazing to see these guys miss so much but talk about some nonsense that would be "interesting" but still nonsense when you take everything into account. . . Like when they are talking relativity and inquisition. How does their theory of relativity take into account Episode 1 . . . episode with the miners. . . or the original short film "Scavangers". . . Also remeber those thing at the end ARE NOT HUMANS they are robots or some form of cyborgs.

Animated Sci-fi especially western is so underrated.

Pretty sure levi's slime mold is not a parasite, since levi isnt even a bio life form

The most important thing is that it should be logical: for instance, to implement some scientific theories, like those about black holes.

I didnt even know what it was, until i stumbled on it last night and binged all 12 episodes.
It’s the most surprised I’ve been by something in awhile, so I totally get it. We watched it weekly, I’m sure it was probably even better as a binge

Baby Levi’s were being born from those white flower bulbs, and that flower was on the ship as that chick left
