- I have never in my life seen anything quite like Scavengers Reign. It is an astounding masterpiece of Science Fiction. If you haven’t heard of the show, that’s probably because its initial streaming service did a bad job marketing it, if you HAVE heard of the show, you know exactly what I’m talking about. But now, after being cancelled at Max, Scavengers Reign is getting a second lease on life, now releasing on NETFLIX, and its success on Netflix will determine if the show gets a second season. SO, if you’re already a FAN of Scavengers Reign, I am BEGGING you to run it back on Netflix as soon as possible. It is the ONE chance we have for this incredible series to continue, as it deserves. And if you have never seen the show, I’m going to use this video to convince you WHY you should be watching Scavengers Reign right now.

This show feels like it could only exist in a universe where animation is treated as a medium where anything is possible. But since animation isn't treated that way in this universe by the general public, a show like Scavengers Reign feels like it would be impossible to exist. The fact that it does exist is so surreal though. There needs to be more shows like this that break the stereotype of what animated shows are like
I think the creators said that they believe their show can only be told through animation. Paraphrasing. I think they played to the medium perfectly
Perfectly said
Yeah, but I think that is soon to change with a generational change of post as more and more young people are invested in anime…
It definitely didn't feel like a real show lol
my love of animation is because of it being a medium without limitations.
Now that S2 basically depends on whether it has a good audience on Netflix, I implore people to watch this show, to show it to their friends and whatnot so it can get renewed. Fr a masterpiece and one of the best pieces of sci-fi ever!!
I pirate everything but I had this on repeat on for like a week on Netflix just for support and it makes good back ground visuals
It has been canceled or not? Or Netflix buy it?
@@NoidoDev Cancelled by HBO, bought by Netflix. Now Netflix need to see what to do, if the show works well, then it'll get a season 2
If not, then we're f*cked 😥
Not only did I binge it in 2 days, I'm going to watch it at least twice all the way through again. This is the best show out there!
@@2-pistolsI'm rewatching it too. Feels like the first time.
I was so invested with such a unique setting and ecosystem that I had to take snapshots of all the flora and fauna and make up my own words or names for them. Though I hear the creators are planning or already making a book to showcase Vesta's animals and plants, and maybe its weather like the metal shard storm.
How do you take screenshots without the screen going black?
I almost wish that scavengers reign would eventually become like an anthology series where maybe every two seasons they showcase new characters on a different kind of planet. Or just keep it on Vesta
I hope they expand on those masked people that saved Kris. That was intriguing.
@@MsJackieJack "saved Kris" is a bit optimistic HAHA.
@@irecordwithaphone1856 After I watched the show, I had to pirate the whole show because as you said, the screen goes black.
We NEED a Season 2. That ending was just so intriguing. Plus, I feel like we have more of the world to discover.
I tried so hard to get any mf body to just watch it. Nobody was interested and it actually pisses me off greatly. People love to complain about bad shows but NOBODY supports a decent show anymore. Scavengers Reign is EASILY one of the best shows of the last ten years.
It's probably hard to get into if you dislike silence. The show is very introspective and quiet at many moments. It feels very mellow compared to others.
@@MachinaOwl it also favors show over tell a lot of the time, which i think a lot of people have difficulty with unfortunately
@@MachinaOwl i have issues with none of that, quite the contrary, and I have even worked on the topic of exobiology....still I found this show to be meh. good looking, some cool ideas...but...really not that interesting
Literally just finished watching Scavengers Reign for the second time like three days ago, and then you upload this, insane!
watch it again on Netflix!
@@Johnny2Cellos don't tempt me
@@adamkehoe7745No seriously do, it's the only chance of getting more!
As a creator, Scavenger's Reign feels like something only artists can make. Not just something original, but something that requires an intimate understanding of the outside world and the worlds inside each of us on both a visual and philosophical level. I love how it isn't afraid to be silent sometimes, it's just such masterful storytelling.
The highlight for me is Azi and Levi, their development is just so beautiful. The animation is also just something else, it's a shame Moebius isn't around to see it. It's kind of miraculous that something this technically marvelous is coming outside of the mainstream studios, it gives me hope for the future of animation.
I put on the first episode of this show one night just so I could see what my brother kept gushing about. I stayed up until one or two AM to watch the whole thing even though I had work in the morning because I couldn't pull myself away. Truly one of the most creative and human shows I've ever seen.
rewatch it on Netflix to help get more made!
@@Johnny2Cellos Oh, I certainly will!
The most human and simultaneously alien show I've ever seen.
I have been up past 1am the past two night in a row binging this.
Can't say enough good things about this show.
My favorite part was the scene where they show the life cycle of the cloning trees. They could have easily just made it a tree that just makes clones of animals that take the original animal's place cause that's what every piece of media involving evil clones does, but then they showed that it's actually how it reproduces, and it really fleshed out how the ecosystem of the planet works and it was amazing
exactly! one of my most favorite scenes, it was as fascinating as it was disturbing. Even though it was the "threat", the show gave it a proper place in its ecosystem. You need to have such an insane amount of knowledge about how plant life, nature in general works to be able to imagine something of the sort. I cant even begin to imagine the amount of research they had to do to come up with this.
Also this was a classic example of show not tell which the show is a master of as well
except it makes no sense. the clone serves no purpose. it does not need or even try to actually get the trust of the herd. it just catches up and then immediately burst into acid. not to mention the forest they came through was massive but the way it reproduces it should be in smaller clusters.
also, what purpose does the clone actually serve? just infect the animal with something that makes it contaminate the others.
What makes this show so unique from other sci-fi shows and movies is how it creates its ecosystems and dynamics of how its flora and fauna interacts. Even the weather in Vesta (planet's name) is so unusual.
A moving wall that seems technological but is actually alive?
A storm that pours down metal shards which spread like an infection?
A plant that can take your DNA and make a clone out of you that tracks you down to bury you alive???
KRAZY WORLD BUILDING!
Don’t forget the part where the clone is also a Acid IED with legs that part really got me good😂
I don't actually see a real ecosystem (biologist here). I just see a bunch of neat ideas with cool designs thrown in together. yeah the running birds somehow symbiotically work with the white trees...but thats pretty much it.
The true travesty here is it was on the top 10 of Max for weeks, literally after the season finale I kept track 4 weeks it was popular, and yet they still canceled it, obviously they didn't care...
I beg you people give it a shot!
It was one of their most popular animated series, Zaslav is just committed to not spending money
Agreed! Watched it on Max recently, gonna subscribe to Netflix and have it play on repeat for however long I keep Netflix
If you haven't already used it Netflix might offer a free trial
I would totally watch a more indepth character review for this show
You could write a whole essay about Kamen/Camen, or Levi. The writers for the show should be proud that they made so many interesting characters, even the ones introduced later
literally one of the best animations I've seen ever, it makes my top 10 at least.
It's unique, beautiful, interesting in a variety of ways, and has good characters that you both root for and hate in the good way.
If you haven't watched it yet I *HIGHLY* recommend leaving this video *NOW* and watching it as blind as possible, a lot of that wow factor comes from seeing everything for the first time.
I've never even heard of this show before but I'm literally signing back up for Netflix right now just to watch it solely based on the non-spoiler section of this video. I haven't been this excited to watch a new animated show since Bojack...
Please watch it asap! Bojack, Scavengers Reign, and the Midnight Gospel are some of the best animated shows out there imo
2:37, The mechanical nature of the planet’s ecosystem and how various beings are symbiotically (or sometimes, parasitically) utilized also contrasts with the more chaotically natured humans, each with their own flaws and vices, unable to connect or find harmony with each other or the world around them at it’s many dangers threaten to make them just another part of their cycle.
4:27, These kind of sci-fi entities being pairing with emotionally and mentally troubled humans is also reminiscent of something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, with the cast of that series being contrasted against the alien Angel’s featured in the series, otherworldly beings that, while mostly sentient beings, are largely motivated by a kind of instinct or programming to serve a larger purpose, having little to no concept of the kind of strife and turmoil the human characters are suffering from, the very same strife and turmoil that makes them, at times, vulnerable to the Angel’s, just as Hollow (whose species appears to be truly sapient and capable of not just thought or emotion, but also vices like greed, jealousy and spite) exploits Kamen’s shame and grief to manipulate him.
10:37, Even the scene of Kamen being absorbed by Hollow, figuratively and literally consumed by despair, is reminiscent of a Shinji, a similarly depressed and cowardly character, being absorbed by the Angel Lilith along with the rest of humanity to escape his strife.
Love seeing someone express the awe and wonder of speculative biology for the first time, there is SO MUCH out there is you know where to look. And I hope you find more Johnny, you’ll love it.
Ursula was my fave! She was the character with the most intuitive connection to the world (besides maybe Levi) who was constantly willing to experiment and use the environment. Looking forward to hearing more about her in s2!

PLEASE do more analysis of Scavengers Reign, there's hardly many videos like that yet there's so much to deep dive into with this show!
I watched this show at the end of 2023, and it is haunting beautiful in visuals and in story. I didn’t realize it was going to Netflix but I will definitely watch it again there. I hope for more seasons for sure.
This show was SO good. It really didn’t get talked about enough, and I’m so glad there are channels like yours that cover less popular animated shows….
It's such a beautiful show, with an amazing soundtrack. I am so sad it didn't get picked up for a second season.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I watched this show on release date and I was just completely jaw dropped, it is one of if not the best work of science fiction I have ever seen and I felt so bad that more people weren’t watching it, so I hope this video helps show it to more people
Just binged it. Honestly peak. Not enough shows are like this.
Levi and Azi's story was the most interesting to me especially when she asked if They could feel her touch and and Levi said it felt nice, My heart just instantly melted for these two.
Ever since I watched the show for the first time I keep thinking about that one scene in the wall with the flower, and the little guy in the flower. It really showed that in this super messed up world where everything is out to get you, there's beauty.
Throughout the show I think this message was echoed. Like how whenever someone dies there's that white flower that grows where they were.
This show is outstanding! I’m glad you made this video because I really want to see more discussion about this show. It deserves more attention, and hopefully get a second season.
ESPECIALLY after that cliffhanger at the end of the series with the Mystic space cult
Just checked, the show isn't on Netflix in Canada at this time. But it is on Prime.
There is a scene twords the end that I have seen every time I close my eyes and imagine since I am aware of . This show was beautiful.
I subscribed to Netflix and binged the show this evening all because of this video. It was a fantastic! Worth a 2nd, 3rd+ watch.
I saw the trailer for this show on max and I was instantly mesmerized by it, I just had to watch it the day it came out and I loved it and watched each episode the day they came out. I really hope more seasons get green lit on Netflix.
wow i came back here to comment and i literally made it 38 seconds into this video and turned it off to start watching the show. i’m only, like, 5 min into the first ep and i’m in love.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SCAVENGER REIGN. Found it the other day and watched the entire season in 1 night. It was almost addicting how the creators actually understood just how complex emotions can be.
So glad someone FINALLY said this louder
This and Jeremie Perin’s MARS EXPRESS have been some of the best animation sci-fi I’ve seen in a long while
Thank god someone is talking about this show. I LOVED everything about this and have recommended this to every person I know who watches animation.
AND THAT ENDING?
I am so ready to be reeled in.
The ending was such a tease, I hope we get more. It was a great show every episode fantastic
Make as many deep dive videos on Scavenger's Reign as you'd like to draw as many eyes to it as you possibly can! Scavenger's Reign and Pantheon (discovered it from your video) imo would be generation defining shows if they came out in the early or pre-streaming era.
I ADORE the aesthetic of this show after watching episode 1. The visual world building we are presented is something i could spend hours theorizing about and it feel so rich and textured. The scene where they went to get the battery and we see the mushrooms are growing out of the the remains of that pod's survivor
I wish the Red Rising series could someday be animated and look half this good.
This show fucking slaps I love it. Recommended to lots of ppl
This show was so excellent. I didn't realize it had been cancelled. Or maybe i did but I forgot. That just stinks. It could end with season 1, but I wanted to see what the show was setting up for season 2.
I watched this show as it was coming out, I just stumbled across it and I’m so glad I did. It’s been a good bit since the finale aired but I can’t get the images from this show out of my head, the life montage shown by the robot, Sam’s final resting place, that one guy getting absolutely mangled by the plant, those water monkeys that threw their tails like lassos and pulled themselves toward you, it is so endlessly creative and innovative.
I came across this show afew days ago and I haven't been able to stop watching it, every episode had me hooked and the last few episodes had me in tears, shows like this NEED to keep being supported
It is a great series. I'm thrilled that you reviewed the show. I was amazed that it didn't seem to be getting that much attention. I will definetly see it again now that it has moved to Netflix.
THIS SHOW RULES!
So glad someone else is talking about this show!! It's so good
Ive watched this show so many time already... and ill do it again lol i find it amazing how i still find new things, a little creature crawling arpund, a character reaction clicking a little better. Its incredible. On a side note, Sam's death, that entire scene just destroys me every time. He always though he would die alone, but he wasnt. That little spider crawling on his hand, the sky bright and hopeful. Gets me everytime.
Thank you SO much for this recommendation. I am cynical, skeptical, and just generally bad-tempered, and don’t like anime a lick, but this was profoundly incredible and supporting it is the least I can do to hope they produce more. Probably the best world building I’ve ever seen. Amazing!!
After Pantheon (an animated show that's beautiful in a different way) gave me an existential crisis, finding and watching Scavenger's Reign is what soothed me.
It's funny. I did watch a minute of the first episode at first and was like "okay, so it's like the Expanse but animated" then stopped because I never finished the Expanse. But then, a random clip of the show got recommended to me on RUclips (the floofball monster encounter) that so captivated me that I knew I had to watch the show.
Thank you for this video. I’ve been head over heels for this series since ever since it premiered last year, and the way it has languished in relative obscurity has been absolutely breaking my heart. This show deserves to be seen, and anyone who loves well-crafted, emotionally rich storytelling (to say nothing of stunning visuals) deserves to see it.
It's always unfortunate when an amazing show ends up on a streaming service that doesn't promote it. Like how it was with Summertime Rendering on Hulu!
It's not even available in other countries
This shit was a fever dream that I would happily experience a few times a year
I'm holding my heart for Netflix to roll out the show further across the globe. I'm in The Netherlands and ever since the show was announced last year I checked online to see if I finally had a reason to subscribe to HBO Max. But it never got released here.
I can't stop seeing parallels of scavengers reign and made in abyss the creatures, the environment, and the structures are so similar and have such beautiful scenery
Saw a clip, saw the title of this video, was sold. Watching it rn, phenomenal series.
Just finished watching it, some of the most creative worldbuilding, animation and great writing I've seen. It would be a shame if it didn't get renewed for another season
Saw the first like 30 seconds of the video (pretty much just to see where to watch it) then went and immediately binged it. Thank you for putting me on to this one of a kind experience Johnny 🙏🏽
Holy crap! Show is incredible! Thanks for this post. I would not have known about it without you!
One of the greatest pieces of animation cinema I’ve ever seen, an immensely well thought out world with a horrifying but satisfying biosphere and a convincing struggle to stay alive in a world where you know nothing at all and everything is learned by survival as in real life.
I really hope there’s another season.
Thanks for the recommendation Johnny. Just finished watching the show and yeah, it’s absolutely terrific. Need a season 2 asap.
Please do individual videos analyzing the characters, that'd be awesome! I'd absolutely love a video on Levi, she is one of the best renditions of ''robot becoming sentient'' in the entire sci-fi genre
My god I just finished this and it's so incredibly good. If we don't get a second season it would be criminal.
Just went and watched the first three episodes on your recommendation and this series is already blowing me away. I’m invested in the characters, the world and the functional detail of it all is intriguing, and it’s all gorgeous to look at. Brilliant show, thanks for the recommendation, I’m going to watch the rest of your vid once I’m caught up. Cheers.
I already added it to my library, gonna start watching today. Thanks for letting us know.
Adored this show. Amazing. I’d love to see your take on Fired On Mars!
here ya go! ruclips.net/video/Kx1zYsA9tDU/видео.html
So when you dropped this video I just saw the title and took your word for it. Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.
Thank you for doing your part to shine a light on this amazing show.
Just finished the show and all i can say is WOW! This blew me away and im so thankful your video pointed me towards it.
Thnks for talking about this show I loved it
Yes, please make more content on Scavengers Reign! That show is a masterpeice and so are your vids so I'd 100% watch!
I watched because I liked the survivors trope but omg I was SO astonished and would love a season 2. Azi’s character development is my favorite.
This video is spot on. I wasn't sure exactly why at first, but I knew while it was happening that I was witnessing something incredible. Phenomenal storytelling, only beaten by its world building
Totally agree and commenting here for the all important algorithim. More seasons of Scavengers Reign would be a must watch experience in my life. Thank you for this.
A friend had recommended this show and if receiving your stamp of approval was all I needed. Binged the entire series over the weekend. Even though I’m not really into the sci-fi genre, I do love animation and I’ve never seen anything like this. Really hope the team gets another season
Saw it when it came out, surprised no one was really talking about it.
A million times yes, we need some character focus videos for scavengers reign. It's just too good.
It is really really good. It reminds me of reading Ulysses where it’s disorienting at first and kind of off putting and then when you let go and just go with it it’s so beautiful and original.
I loved the first season of space force but the second got better reviews. Maybe everyone needs comfort food TV during stressful times like finals week. Hopefully in the summer when there’s less pressure this can find a foothold audience
I just watched this show, and it was amazing. I was thinking about an action live version, but in my view, the CGI cannot offer the same vibe and quality. Simply it's perfect.
The frog creature and the arc of its story really reminds me of ghiblis no face character. I binge watched season one I loved it!
dude i am in love with this show only on episode3 and it is so good
I'm about to be on my 3rd re-watch of this series. A true Masterpiece. I truly hope we get a season 2.
I was immediately drawn to this on Netflix just from the title card. This was a mesmerizing and thought provoking anime. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend!
I finished watching it today and it was absolutely amazing. It reminded me of the 2012 Prophet reboot at Image Comics. To be honest, I've become so jaded by networks cancelling animated shows after 1-2 seasons (and Zaslav's fuckery didn't help) that I'm almost scared that we won't get more of this. But, I NEED more of this.
I begged so many people to watch Scavenger's Reign when it came out but it's a very difficult show to explain, especially without spoilers. Nice work with this vid Johnny
Fantastic video timing I just finished the series yesterday after a friend recommended it to me arbitrarily
YES YES YES SO GLAD YOU MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT
Pantheon and Scavenger's Reign ❤
One thing I got out of early interaction between Caiman and the creature was that the creature was influenced by him. Originally the creature seemed to be upset with the situation with its alpha. It may not have done anything about it if it wasn't for the connection it made with Caiman.
I've seen this show, just saw it out of the blue I love it I really hope Netflix markets it more, I loved the show the ending may be hinting at some kind of zombie plant cult thingy I really wonder what will happen if they choose to continue.
Thank you !!i was wondering why noone was covering this show, its an amazing adventure i enjoyed it alot
I want more seasons so badly thank you for making a video on this show!!!
This was one of the shows I watched at work between doing nothing for hours. And yeah, probably my favorite binges at that job
Now I just finish it, what a MASTERPIECE!!!
thanks for sharing Johnny.
Haven't seen it yet but I will check it out since my little brother recommended it and seemingly it's quietly popular.
The visuals and animation reminds me of an awesome French adult animation series called LASTMAN. it's amazing you should see it. It too had little fanfare and never got the second season it deserved.
So good, just the sheer Moebiusnessness of it is utterly sublime it’s like ghandahar n the other Metal Hurlant animation from the 70s.
Brilliant madness
If it doesn’t get a second season il be heart broken
I stopped your video after the non-spoiler part of your video, and watched the show. I was absolutely blown away - this is the coolest showing of alien life I've ever seen! Glad I can watch the rest of this video now
Thank you for shining light on it. Upon watching I told every one who'd listen that this is the next hidden gem. Great on do many levels, it'd take hours to even briefly explain. One of my favorites on top of what was said in the video is the fundamental difference between Sam's and Ursula's outlook on the planet as in colonization (Sam) vs symbiosis (Urszula) and how it drives the character conflict and the overal message of the show etc. It is a criminally underrated peak sci-fi of our era.
Yesss! Thank you so much for talking about this! I NEED this show to continue! I need adult animation to break free from the chains of Family Guy clones
I'm#1
And yeah you were right this show is F!CKING AMAZING.
I found the show by accident I had no idea it existed I fell in love with season 1 and I'm distraught that it got canceled even though it was nominated for an Emmy. I canceled Netflix because I got tired of them just raising the prices but not their quality so I might not get to watch season 2 if it ever gets a second season.
Apparently, Kamen's creepy frog-like alien has a name, even if it's never spoken in the actual show. Hollow.
Thanks for introducing me to this show. It's so interesting and original!
