little tip, don't bother with the spring compressor in the future, just slowly drop the rear axle and control arms then you can use a long prybar to pull it, with the shocks undone theres hardly any tension on the spring
New sub, the Cobra videos are awesome, I've been basically doing the same in rehabilitating an SN95. You're very good at making these projects less daunting. Keep up the good work!
The front springs are a pain in the vag ! Tried couple different spring compressors non would work... ended up putting jack n 2x4 under control arm where the 2 bolts that hold control arm to k member, leave ball joint connected take the 2 21mm bolts out and lower control arm down with jack. spring won't fly out or nothing crazy.. putting the stock springs back in is difficult but do able dont be scared of spring it's not going to kill you in this case. .. the 2nd time I did this I cut the springs a coil or 2 so much easier to install.
Good vid. Nothing like doing major work like this on a schedule. There's usually a spec for preloading the bushings on the control arms where you measure the center of the hub to the fender. Lowering it blows that out of the water so I usually just jack up the suspension until it starts lifting the car off the jack stand, bounce on it a few times to settle it, then torque the bolts. That sucks you couldn't get those fronts torqued though. I had that problem on my wife's Fusion. The only way I could tighten one of the control arm bolts was with the subframe dropped 1/2", and I could only get a box end in there. So it was the old crank on it as hard as I could, make a "click" sound and call it good.
I've done this a few times on sn95s and fox's. I learned after the first time to ditch the spring compressors and just use the jack to let off pressure. Cuts down the extra time dramatically. You can catch a Darwin award still, but you would really have to be an idiot about it.
Just subbed and binge watching. I was amazed at what I found on yours. I have had my 98 cobra for 15 years now, and have a '16 Ram, and a buddy has a C10. So coming across your channel was irony. Plus...I have a bunch of the parts you installed. It's almost a parallel for the same use.
Ahhh thats awesome. Thank you for the sub!! Well ill let you in on a little secret. Theres a new car coming to the channel. Hints are its much older, it is a Ford product, but the brand is no longer around
We got our springs out without a compressor. there really isn't a lot of tension left in them at full drop. really only had to pry them off the lip, but not that hard.
Well that is good. It’s always better when they come out easy. I wound up making another video when working on my 1964 Comet specific to just spring compressors. After having to buy a few types for different jobs i figured it was time to explain
Cliffhanger damn you...Mustang is cool and your doing great about keeping interesting. But I really miss the truck content. The best exhaust gaskets are made by a company called remflex. So I’ve almost fully decided I want to go with Koni yellows and MM road and track springs. How do you like the combo? How did the ride height settle? Any regrets?
I have since sold the car BUT i really liked the performance both on the street and track. This was a really fun car. The only change I would make next time is to do coil overs in the front. I heard the ride quality gets a lot better due to improved geometry
@@truckandroll989 awesome! Thanks for the reply. My fox currently has clapped out suspension and the car is basically slammed. I hate the way it rides. So I wan to start upgrading my suspension. I ended up watching g the driving video after you did the panhard bar. Looks like a blast
Which video do you cover the ride height and handling after the suspension install? I'm considering MM road & track springs for my 97 convertible Cobra (have Koni yellows, MM CC plates, Prothane isos too). I'd love to know your thoughts. What was your actual lowering amount with those springs & isos? Thanks for the vids!
I know the car is gone now but I had an exhaust question: I am also using the SR tailpipes but with Flowmasters. If I recall you said you were using SLP mufflers. Did you have any issues getting them to fit together? I wanted to do that setup but I know the SR pipes are intended for the OEM offset type mufflers and I figured since the SLP’s are straight that they wouldn’t line up with the tailpipes. Did you have any fitment issues with the SR pipes in general? I almost wonder if my drivers side pipe was either bent or if they welded the hanger in the wrong spot because when I get it to where it’s not making contact with anything it’s exiting crooked like the tip is about 15 degrees left of center and pointing inward. It’s pretty irritating, lol.
It is funny you mention that they are meant for an offset. So i was able to make them work with the SLP straight through muffler but I would get rubbing issues against the tire (315 17s) on the road course. I always assumed it was the tire width or just pipes moving side to side. Long story short you can make it work but with 315s and a lowered car you may rub slightly if you drive aggressively.
@@truckandroll989 were you able to get the SLP’s connected as-is or did you use an angled coupler? I initially thought of using those flexible exhaust couplers but scrapped the idea because I thought it would just get to janky and look cobbled together but if it works I’m down because the flowmasters are a bit too quiet for me, lol.
What is your ride at measurement at the fenders? I am debating between the MM springs and HR super sports to replace my stock springs, also have Koni DA to install also
So i like the konis alot. These cars handle surprisingly well. My only complaint was if it weren’t for COVID and shipping backorders from MM i would have gone coilover. My understanding is you can get away with alot lower spring rates which improves ride quality on the street.
@@truckandroll989 yeah I’ve been waiting on MM full length sub frame connectors for a month now so I understand that. Keep the videos coming! Turn comments back on to I have questions on your videos and can’t ask them lol
What are your driving impressions with the MM Road & Track springs? I would be interested in your opinion of these springs for street driving and if you experience any grinding due to a lower ground clearance. It would be great if you could add some side views of the car either in a video here or stills on IG.
Yea i can put some additional shots on instagram for reference. So if you want springs for lower ride height im sure there are others which drop you lower. The ride is definitely harsher than stock but some of that is probably amplified by the fact this is a 23yo car with a lot of plastic interior parts from the factory. Its definately not too harsh to daily drive nor do I scrape often. If i could do it all over again and if lead times were not an issue i would probably do coilovers. My understand is that they are the best of both worlds. However given those weren’t available when i bought these i think they work fine and respond well on the track.
@@truckandroll989 Thanks for your impressions, that was what I was hoping to find out. There are not many reviews for the MM springs on the forums. I am still on stock springs and do not have an interest in any spring set that drops more than 1.25" for the rough streets I encounter.
Do you happen to know what the difference is between the H&R Race springs and the MM Road & Track springs other than color? The descriptions for each type on MM's website are very similar.

@@cootingram6265 im really surprised with how well these cars handle on the track with simple mods. The one annoying issue has been the lateral tire rubbing.
