To me this song speaks of letting dreams go. That's a bitter irony considering she never got the career she dreamed of. But she did get to share her soul. I hope Diane and her family were very happy. RIP Diane.
thank you for this. the term ”iconic” is often overused, but it’s only fitting for q lazzarus and goodbye horses. giving her a platform for others to discover her work is another testament to the genius of demme. rip q lazzarus rip jonathan demme
She has a voice as beautiful and iconic as annie lennox imo!❤ It always baffles me how some people can be so popular and memorable while others fade into obscurity even when they have everything working in their favor. I guess part of it is having the right people backing you up and one having the tenacity to push through, and the other part being timing and luck. At least we'll always remember Q for her voice and the amazing songs she brought to life 😓
man I remember as a teenager , this song was the biggest myth ever, this song does NOT appear on the OST of silence of the lambs , and pre internet let me tell you this song was impossible to find or know anything about , it was a true mystery and myth
Dude thank you so much for this. I like so many know this artist from the cult classic yet know so little about her. Thanks for shining light on this deserving woman! Keep rocking Q!
Massive fan of this song and I hadn't heard the Jonathan Demme cab ride story.. fascinating. As you say it's sad that she never received the credit or reaped the benefit of her talent but she has left an indelible legacy that bands like 'Indelible Scars' and 'Tone of Arc' have honored with outstanding cover versions of her iconic track. Respect! 🙏💙
There are so many genius songs sitting on vinyl, tapes, CDs, and especially hard drives that never will reach a wider audience, maybe because the creator didn't intend it to be spread or because it lacked whatever it took for it to become famous. Also, so many talents out there who never realized their potential.
There are tons, I play in two independent bands and I can tell you how many bands I've played with in different states e.t.c that dropped a whole album of amazing stuff, toured once and the disbanded, there are so many bands out there that never got to be where they should've been, Q is definitely one of them
A truly sliding doors moment. That scene of Buffalo Bill, as disturbing and memorable as it is, could never have elevated to the its now iconic status it now commands if it wasn't for that incredible song. Thank you to that film producer and RIP Diane Luckey aka Q Lazzarus.
Great video You brought to the light more information in less than 10 minutes than many videos out there with longer playing time that are just looking for views and likes
Thanks for this video. I first became fully aware of the song three weeks ago, after vaguely remembering hearing/seeing it on "Silence of the Lambs". Diane Luckey/Q Lazzarus had an amazing voice and died way too young. It is a truly great song. William Garvey's songwriting in this case was sublime. It is spiritual, haunting, melancholic, melodic and uplifting all at the same time. Someone should do a full length documentary on the song and her life. RIP Diane.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell the story behind the song? It’s about the Indian Bhagavad Gita. Goodbye Horses I’m flying over you is about reaching spiritual enlightenment. It makes the song even more beautiful. 🙏🏼♥️☮️🕊
I think it's disgusting that talented people are turned away for their appearance. So what if she had dreadlocks? Nothing wrong with them and she was beautiful just the way she was. They deprived the world of the full potential of her talent. I'm so sad to hear she passed away. Your voice will live on beautiful lady. RIP.
lately i've become fixated on this woman because she strongly resembles my mother in that black in white photo of her smiling big. not only that, but my mom also moved to new york as a teenager and worked on a bus. plus Q lazzarus passed a day after my birthday, and silence of the lambs is one of my favorite movies ever and i find her song so hauntingly beautiful. it sounds so sensual. it truly breaks my heart that her music career never took off due to racism :(. i hope at least the rest of her years were happy and fulfilling
And damn, I didn't know that Diane Luckey had a few seconds in Philadelphia the movie. That was an Oscar winner back in the day and in all the theory videos about her over the years no-one else has mentioned that !
Documentary "Searching For Sugarman" is also about a singer songwriter who dropped out of the business and everyone was looking for him after his hit songs
GOODBYE HORSES: THE MANY LIVES OF Q LAZZARUS - Ritzy Cinema in Brixton London, England - 6 November 2024 - the International Premiere and ONLY cinema screening in the world - before streaming - of this major new documentary about Q, with the Director present, then streaming from 12 December 2024 (Q's birthday) globally.
The movie actually I feel killed the song, it's like everyone tied it with a trans serial killer. I personally find it very bohemian, and always took the song as a true work of art, very enchanting, mesmerizing and indeed a captivating beat....
Interesting piece. Diane Luckey had a full life, a husband and two children, who will miss her. She didn’t fail at anything.
