It’s also a story about being lucky to be gifted and passionate about your gift.
And… who wrote this song and the music and produced it? This story is a little lacking sorry. William Garvey
That is mentioned in the video
She was so talented and beautiful. Sad for her.
Love this! Thank you 😊
I’m surprised you don’t have more views and subscribers on RUclips. I’m commenting and liking to add more engagement, so that the algorithm brings you more views. I saw your video on Facebook, and looked you up to add on RUclips because their playlists are easier to use.
Thank You!
Urban Heat has a awesome cover of her amazing song.
He's so right. I heard maggie and was like wow. It's so different but I love it!
You didn't say that this song was about Apocalypse.
Man you are an amazing story teller. Absolute. I strive to create in your level bro

she rocked! damn that's one sad story!!
🙃🙃🙃 what's that video at 4:50???
Interesting, thanks. That song is also featured in the 2012 remake of Maniac. 🙂
THIS ONLY HAS 90 VIEWS???
I was hanging out with Doug the day after he got back to Tempe from Memphis. We were at a local bar called 6 East, and knowing what I know now, he was basically in denial about his situation. He fully assumed he was going back to record the rest of the album. He was asking if one of us wanted to go back to TN with him. His problem was that by this time he was completely physically dependent on alcohol. It was unfathomable to think of the Gin Blossoms without Doug writing the songs and playing guitar. I can't imagine what the other guys were feeling when they had to make the decision to move forward without him.
There is a reason these hacks never had any real success after they unintentionally helped kill the only talented member 😤
robin had the exactly perfect voice for those songs tho, his vocals had so much to do with their unique sound
Patrick, you are such a machine head. 😅
Great story. Thanks, Patrick.
Nicely done! I've loved your content on TikTok, but I'm a fan of the longer, more in depth videos here. Especially, when it comes to ATDI. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these!
It was destiny...not luck.
Kudos to the music program for having her write that detailed business plan for her thesis. You don't know how many "grad" schools absolutely skip this crucial step while tooting their own horn about the value of their education. Beautiful process. Her SNL version of Falling Water is my favorite
I really love watching people be successful. Watching her with Pharell was so awesome!
will never forget driving through liberty city in a cab while its raining with this playing
same thing happened in NYC with Romeo Void. They didn't like her look. crazy.
A beautiful story told beautifully!
Doug's songs,,,it's always the saddest one that shines,,,
Ive the vinyl❤
@4:35, She looks like Halsey!!!!!
Cafeune led me to the masterclass video and from there I heard Maggie Rogers' music. It was an awesome surprise cause I didn't expect to hear a new artist I'd like. This video makes it all come back full circle. Now I'm gonna watch her tiny desk for the 1st time 😄
No, Pharrell. You're like a SALMON..! 😃
he seems like a truly noble man to me. I think America missed out on a genuine home grown hero !!
Cool video, thank you very much!
Vsauce
Is this that vsauce guy
Put down the banjo and dance - Girl you are going to be... ...you ARE a star!
You forgot that podcast where Maggie and Pharrell met again after she became viral. I think it was an apple podcast/interview or something.
Really nice production on this, Patrick. A story well told, thank you.
Thank you Patrick for capturing the essence of my father, Dean Reed. He was a passionate humanitarian who dedicated his life to fighting for universal access to healthcare, fulfilling careers, and a joyful life for all. In an era before social media, he used his platform as an artist - through free concerts, films, and television - to reach both the public and those in power. His striking appearance certainly didn't hurt either! We've delved deeper into his fascinating life and mysterious death in our documentary, "Red Elvis: A Cold War Cowboy," available on Amazon Prime and Sky TV. The podcast "Red Elvis" offers an even more intimate look. We're currently hard at work on a script, book, and potentially a musical to further share his story. Fingers crossed! Ramona
I lived there at the time and can confirm it. Dean Reed was a talented singer with a very beautiful voice, and so handsome to boot. Was extremely popular in our country, particularly, as you can see, among girls. As a rare event, the government-owned (and the only existing official one) record company issued an LP with a collection of DR songs. We loved them. I played it incessantly until there were almost holes in the record body. Of course, they were labeled as "protest songs", and some of them were, but a lot were just very good pop songs. The Soviet government (CP of the USSR) had to politicize him and his music. He tragically died in GDR (East Germany) under mysterious circumstances. Thanks for the memories! Made me want to revisit his music again. Take care!
1000% Legend.
Inspiring
I knew Doug, Bill, Jesse, "Phil" Rhodes back in the old days of the Long Wongs on Mill Ave. Tempe. I used to bartend for the original owners, Ronny Goldstein with his family, Mr. and Mrs. "G". It was very nice you did this story about Doug, the man who wrote from his heart.
Selena Gomez T-shirt.
👐🏾🌐👐🏾a good Mueller and Comey song👐🏾🌐👐🏾
This is the creative process - stepping out; sometimes WAY out, to make it real for the artist's intentions; aiming to bridge into other lives ! Fearlessness is the key. Do it !
When you were made for music but music was also made for you <3
Thanks for this video. I first became fully aware of the song three weeks ago, after vaguely remembering hearing/seeing it on "Silence of the Lambs". Diane Luckey/Q Lazzarus had an amazing voice and died way too young. It is a truly great song. William Garvey's songwriting in this case was sublime. It is spiritual, haunting, melancholic, melodic and uplifting all at the same time. Someone should do a full length documentary on the song and her life. RIP Diane.
i hope she was happy with the life she lead even if she didn’t get to become a big star
amazing song writer from post punk - alt rock. Dude was the American Johnny marr who never really got a chance.
