I think the statement by Eric Leeds says it all. Out of all the recordings he made with Prince, about 5% made it to our ears. The vault contains a treasure trove of unreleased music that will hopefully see the light of day.

Eric Leeds inspired me to pick up a flute when I was teen, purely for his part in the song 'Power Fantastic'. I think it's the finest, most sensitive and subtle and raw flute work I've ever heard in a pop song.

It's one thing I've noticed about any highly successful people I've known, they have enormous energy and a huge capacity for work. They can just last longer than everyone else. Combine that with Prince's exceptional musical ability and you have a genius. It's reminiscent of Mozart, he only lived till he was 35 yet he wrote so much music a whole system had to be invented to catalogue his work.

Yeah - a quote I really like is that the only thing that separates prolific creatives from others is an intense drive to create. As you say, this pushes them to work harder than others and perfect their skills

He also tended to be overly harsh and cruel and duplicitous toward his employees, forced people around him to abide by stringent religious/cultist mores, and also treated women he worked with like disposable sex toys to exploit. He was a fine and talented artist undeniably, but he could also be a horrible man.

When the burn out does happen you'll get sick to your stomach from fatigue so many amateurs who "don't do it for the money" will never experience burn out because they don't work at it hard enough, you can burn out doing rewrites but there again amateurs don't generally rewrite material because they have an unrealistic view in terms of quality of their drafts and demos.
