What I love is how little time he spent on screen and his shooting schedule was quite compressed too. (I cannot find the information now, but it was literally days. He only has a few scenes.) What a powerfully compelling character he made, with relatively few words of dialog.
@@grf15 thanks for the info i never new that. I've always said that he needed more screen in the movie but after years of watching it,wouldn't have it any other way. His spastic bug outs and racist rants combined with his insults to the "convict" has always and will always kill me. A+ acting right there!! @Gus o man hell yeah dude. give it a watch if you can. Especially if you're a fan of Mickey Rourke...Tupac and Steel from juice in it, Adrian Brody and Carmela Soprano's mother too. Haha awesome flick
When you consider the movie came out in 1990, it's not surprising if Ted was 'blacklisted' in Hollywood. Things were very different back then in terms of social mores and acceptability. Someone playing a deranged serial killer wanting to be a female with some very provocative shots, would pretty much put studios off from hiring that actor. Ted was reduced to playing in bit roles like a Jean Claude Van Damme movie. Then after a long time he finally broke through with the TV series and movie roles after.. Nowadays, that wouldn't necessarily happen. Like the actor in the Dahmer series on Netflix, playing that role with some explicit scenes and overt homosexuality would not hurt his marketability at all. Whereas, if he did that many decades ago, it would blacklist him.
Ted Levine’s eyes are still so beautiful. I love how he played Jaime Gumb. He showed just enough vulnerability when Katherine is crying “I want my mommy” to be the perfect tortured monster. I loved him.
Hopkins hammed up the part too much and made lecter sound sinister or creepy .in the case of s-killers they are far from playing the creepy role and they come over as straight forward guys....
I thought using the pronoun "It" in "in it puts the lotion in the basket" was so powerful because, in my mind, it created this detachment and impersonal feeling that Bill has toward his victims. This was what made The Silence of the Lambs so incredibly frightening and realistic.
Which was continued when Starling says "If he sees Catherine as a person and not just an object, it's harder to tear her up." All the serial killers studied for this movie had that, depersonalizing their victims.
I love how real he is here. Just a normal dude who doesn’t need to or act like he gives a shit. That’s called living your life and not worrying about what anyone thinks. Great actor when he’s working and even greater at life. Kudos

That entire movie was perfectly cast. Crawford, the psych hospital personnel, the West VA local cops (I know guys like them), etc. It’s almost a perfect movie. For a true procedural, it’s up there, maybe at the top for me. Very realistic as original FBI profiler, John Douglas (Mindhunter) and his autobiography were sources f research and inspiration.

Anthony Hopkins was amazing as Hannibal, but it felt larger than life. Ted Levine played Buffalo Bill more subdued and felt like he could exist in the real world.
One of the great actors of our generation without a shadow of doubt. Ted Levine definitely deserve the Oscar for Shutter Island. It is worth watching simply because of his fantastic performance. His adorable but confident portrayal of Captain Stottlemeyer and Lieutenant Wade in The Bridge proves how versatile and gifted he is as an actor.
Ted Levine is one of my favorite actors ever, I loved him in Silence of the Lambs, Monk, even in the Mangler with fellow underrated actor, Robert Englund
I remember reading somewhere that some agents had gotten in trouble consulting on Silence of the Lambs because they had let some of the actors listen to the Toolbox Murders tapes. Scott Glenn was so shook by them he ended up changing his stance on the death penalty from against to for.
