I admit I'm no expert when it comes to Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters, but I'm very excited to repaint this Lakeside Lodge dollhouse. I bought a listing from eBay secondhand for $34. There are over 50 pieces included from different sets and the dollhouse! Not only are we doing an unboxing, but I also repaint a couple of the miniature accessories as a little taste of the upcoming repaint. I'll be modifying the dollhouse and changing the look and function. I'm excited to make this plastic dollhouse more rustic and realistic.

Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.

I don't like dolls in my houses so I tend to make houses for mice and gnomes, moles, etc. I hate fussy measuring for a scale so I generally just size things to fit the space and occupants. And mice, gnomes and moles have really short legs, so all my furniture has short legs.
That seems to be what goes on with Sylvanian Families houses. The scale of the accessories is 1:12 or even bigger inside a 1:24 house. It gives a playful, cute aesthetic.
I am an adult collector of Sylvanian/Calico Critters and I have the Lakeside Lodge. I have built an entire village with my Critters and houses. It will be fun to see what you do with these! You do indeed have members of the Buckley deer family; the flower originally was on the daughter doll. I am not sure of the year of these dolls; their clothing is different but the clothes may have been changed at some point.

You really hit the jackpot! Everything is super cute and I can't wait to see what you do with it. Nail art tiles from Temu might be a good size for the tile backsplash. This is going to be amazing!
I actually bought nail art tiles from Temu in my biggest haul! Well spotted. I haven't done anything with them yet.
I have used tiny nail stickers as decals on dollhouse dishes, vanity pieces and canisters! So easy!
This is by far my favourite of the Sylvanians houses, just love that log cabin feel
There's an even bigger lodge available but I love the look of this one and I didn't want my first foray into this style to be too big.
I think you should turn the little tub in the front into a fish/coy pond!

They do look like bunnies,but they are actually the deer family...too bad they didn't make the ears more pointy, or give the dad some antlers! All the Sylvanian families are adorable😃
A viewer who collects these critters said they're the Buckley Deer Family. The flower headband is supposed to be on the daughter. Looks like Mom is borrowing it 😆

This was a great find, and the critters were in wonderful condition. I LOVE the repainted pan, SO gorgeous!! 😍(BTW- no the original bedding for that set included a blue mattress, and there are many variations but in each variation the bedding does match; also the heads do turn but may get a little sticky over time, and the outfits on your deer family I think have been swapped, as some had different clothing originally, but I love what they came with) - thanks for sharing and excited to see the final setup!!

That's a good point. I had never heard of these until I was an adult. I was all about Barbies, but really young me would've loved these cuties.

Thank you! Sylvanian Families houses are very laidback, so it would be a great side project. The house itself is 1:24, but the accessories are 1:12 or even larger. Scale doesn't matter, so you can have fun with it. The pan I redid is the same size as the entire stove top! It gives the house a cute aesthetic vs realistic.

Very lovely set but not enough space for a bedroom, I suggest you make the balcony where you put the bed bigger and turn it into a bedroom with walls if it’s possible, can’t wait to see how it turns out

Really! The prices on Temu are great. You can buy the exact same items from Amazon for 2-3x the price.

That's awesome! It may be ambitious, but I'd like to make my own critters for the dollhouse from clay and fur so they look a lot more adorable. Yubisakichan on RUclips has some tutorial videos for making your own. I linked her channel in the description.

I love her work! It's so relaxing and beautiful. She does a little movie at the end with the dolls. It's friggin adorable.
You are so creative. What a cute project! I’ve got the calico critter/sylvanian cabin (for my granddaughter), and it’s so adorable with all the furniture and accessories. She still plays with it. Later, I found a ‘Vampirina’ playhouse at resale and redid it for her as a ‘Wednesday Adam’s’ school/house in shades of black, white, purple. I even created ‘stained glass’ out of polymer clay to do the windows in, it was such fun to do. I used a plastic spray paint primer for the first coat and regular craft paints on top and it’s held up very well to play.
*the deck hot tub might double as a sand box for the critter kids. I’m curious which animals they are, must be an older design as they don’t seem to match up with the current families- there is a reindeer family with antlers.

A viewer said this is the Buckley Deer Family. They doo look a bit old. Their flocking isn't in perfect condition. I could've sworn I've seen a Deer with antlers. Must be a newer doll.
I will definitely be following this project, so I hope the future holds many updates! I fell in love with Calico Critters a couple of years ago and I'm in my seventies! The story behind their creation is interesting, they've even won many awards globally. I love their furniture too, so adorable, but I don't like the plastic look. So I'll be eager to see what you do to make them look a little more realistic. Good to know I'm not the only one smitten with these cute little guys. In my defense as a well meaning adult (yeah, right!), I've already given away a few families to friends and family, and also a Koala Bear Cottage! (It was a small mdf kit.) My four year old grandson recently got the bunny family for his birthday, along with the little red car. I'm told he loves them! Also, there are patterns you can download for clothes. I did get one lot of critters off Ebay with no clothes, so I was able to knit some cute little dresses, sweaters, pants and headbands.

That's great to know about the clothing patterns! I can't knit or crochet and I despise sewing but I would make glued hems 😆

I can't wait to see what you do! I also watch some of the different foreign creators and their creations with these sets are brilliant! I am collecting pieces to redo a house for my daughter but I think she's lost interest again. I put it away every couple of months and just wait till she likes it again. 😅 I have so many projects and so little time.
That's ok! Even Bentley House Minis puts projects away for a period of time until she's interested again. That's why she has multiple projects going at once.
You should add a second floor and extend the ground floor
That's a great idea. I think I'll do just that. I saw Little Gretchen's Workshop extend the floor in her dollhouse.

Such a good set, the beds definitely go to another set just not sure which one. I never had Sylvanian families when I was growing up. The family look more like mice to me but I could be wrong
That's what I thought. They look like mice, but then they have these little tails that do like deer. But the father doesn't have antlers!

It's hard for me to say if any of your Temu haul items would work in that little house because I can never pictures sizes unless I actually see them in person, even with a ruler, which is really bothersome! And I think you would be the best judge of that particular anyway.
I can't wait to see all the little changes you make to the little house and accessories! I know you will work your magic and amaze me as always.
The fun thing about Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters is there's no strict adherence to scale. The house is 1:24, but the accessories are 1:12. Some seem big enough to be Barbie scale.
@queencityminis That's kind of what I'm shooting for in the tree dollhouse I am building. I will try to stick close to 12th scale, but I'm not worried about being too precise because I will have different sized dolls/characters or whatever they are called. I'm just looking to have fun. LOL
Looks like it will be very cute! The scale of the items, so funny, but it is a light-hearted project, so anything goes!

Thank you!! I had never even heard of them until I was an adult looking for 1:12 items on eBay. Then I really got interested when I saw what some Japanese RUclipsrs are doing with these houses.
Great project - can’t wait to see its progress! I have made oven racks out of plastic strawberry/cherry tomato baskets. After cutting the racks out of the basket sides, I then spray painted them black - they fit perfectly and looked exactly like real oven racks - FYI - if you ever get an oven without racks! 🙂

For sure. I'll end up rehoming pieces I won't be using. I think the hammocks, the front porch, the bunk beds, and fridge will be going. Maybe more!
