Saw them live in 1986, The Mercy Seat. Brilliant concert. Gospel-punk like never heard before: iconic singer, killer drums and bass, and Gordon with his just-learned-to-play style and creepy backing vocals. Forever etched in my mind. I wish I still had the vinyl....

Listened to it just a couple months ago.
I saw them open up for 10,000 Maniacs around the same time. Natalie Merchant was still with them.
They Maniacs were good but the energy from Gordan and the band was unbeatable that night.

I saw them around '91/92 in New Orleans at Tipitina's on a Tuesday night, but they played on the Monday, too, which was aired by Tulane University's radio station and I recorded that one. Gordon read a part of Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, which he'd been reading on the tour bus. I tried to read the book, but probably needed to be on a tour bus with no other options. ;) Both nights were amazing shows!
