Hi Zoe! I would love to see a zipper sewing tutorial. I sew casually at home for myself and I am so happy I found your channel. There's a lot I've learned and apply and there's also information that I won't use but I watch all of it because it's great. I think your an excellent teacher! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and entertaining us ❤️
I love this! I work a leather and sewing shop and I've learned so much about zippers and how to shorten and fix them. This is something that should be taught 'cause so many designers coming in just asking for a zipper and I ask them to specify and they don't know what they want or that there are so many options
Now I understand better the concept of choosing fabrics and trims even before starts to draw, I'm on my first-year of fashion design, so in my mind fashion creation was about to draw from your head, but it's actually create using fabrics and other resources. This series really helped me! Thanks
Your so informative, and your vids always get great into detail without seeming redundant or boring. Thank you for all the amazing fashion knowledge in all your vids.
I've already commented on Instagram 😅 but only for making sure that you read this, YES! We neeeeed much more of sewing tutorials 😊 thanks a lot Zoe you're always inspiring 💙
Yes finally, zippers and buttons are so under spoken. Personally I love mix and matching sippers. I definitely love using jean zippers for most applications, but that’s a design preference.
There also exist invisible separating zippers. I also remove plastic tractor zipper teeth, it is possible. I think when it comes to invisible zippers in general, it is also important to choose the zipper that has a tape compatible with the fabric of the garment. The on in the video has has a twill tape but there also exist invisible zippers with a knitted tape which appears kinda meshy and is softer than the twill one and therefore, more suitable for lighter, softer or knitted materials. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you Zoe, I love how you explained each and every zipper and I love the different colors zippers as well , I would love to see you do a video on putting a zipper on a garment.
This was really informative, thank you!! I've always been hesitant to deal with zippers as a beginner sewing; videos on how to sew them would be so helpful! Especially jean zippers since I'd be more inclined to fix some I have piled up :) I'm on a mission to watch all your videos. I haven't found any other youtube channel that has consistently come up with relevant topics and in depth material. You're doing so well!!!!
I was in Dover street market once and I tried on this Givenchy jacket, and the zips were so smooth and felt high quality, I've never felt a zipper this good! Most zipped jackets / hoodies never feel smooth, they don't zip up and down well like you need to put a WD40 equivalent to make them feel smooth again, even YKK zips the feel light and cheap. I love to know the names of some high end / heavy duty, reflective shiny metal / silver chrome zipped hoodies to save search time. great video as well 🙏
Yes to a sewing zippers tutorial! Also, tip from your trade team on jackets! Use #5 or higher if you’re aiming for outerwear tariff rate (lower than a “cardigan type”!). Also, if you put a zipper on a suit-type jacket, Customs says it’s no longer a suit-type jacket. Thank you Zoe!!! xoxo
I love when you geek out on my channel, but GIRL, screw customs, if there's a zipper on a suit-type jacket, *I* won't let you call it a suit jacket. Subtle horn 4-hole buttons only, with matching style button of a smaller size along the sleeve plackets, tyvm. I will allow shank buttons for sports coats only--never for blazers or suit jackets.
Zoe Hong, haha, as a fashion lover, I agree on all points!! But why did you have to put the image of shank buttons on anything but a denim jacket in my head. My soul weeps!! (Shank buttons are so not a heavy duty closure)
how about a video on pretreating fabrics and is it possible to get the fabrics after pretreating as wrinkle free as they were before, especially cottons? is just wetting the fabric and ironing when it's dry enough or it is necessary to actually wash the fabrics with soap?
You can make a stopper by sewing the end. Don't need to buy zippers with stoppers. Just buy a long zipper tape and cut them as needed. (as mentioned in the video by Zoe)
Hello! This video helped me so much!!! Tank you! Im not sure what what size of zipper i should use for a waterproof camping tent, should y use a 5,8,10?
I love the look of invisible zips and find them easy to install, however I find them difficult to zip at waist lines etc where four seems come together. So unless the fabric is very lightweight I just go with a coiled zip.
Hey Zoe, I have a scholarship project coming up for FIDM and I need to know how to render zippers with markers/colored pencil/fine liners. I really want to make them look realistic without looking like a bunch of random horizontal tic marks. Can you make a video any time soon about it? Thanks!
is there a maximum amount that a zipper can bend (i have so many dresses where the zipper hooks halfway up at the waist etc)? do the nylon zippers maybe hook less than metal ones? like is there a type of zipper material that premium clothing construction would use?
I don't know what you mean about zippers hooking. For smooth zips, it's not about the material but about the production quality. Premium brands like YKK make sure the individual metal teeth are smooth so the zips don't get stuck as you pull them open and closed, etc.
I have a men's compression shirt I wanted to have a zipper installed that will separate all the way up the middle of the back, what type of zipper would you recommend for that? Something that will last a long time? Thank you
Could you make a video on how a garment goes from initial idea to the final product ready to sell? I'm not really sure what goes on in the stages in between!
Hi, I have a zipper related question. Is it possible to separate a closed ended zipper? Or is it stuck the way it is. I have a closed No.5 ykk zipper and wanted to see if separating without ruining it was possible?
If you look at the bottom metal bits of a zipper, they're totally different. You'd have to remove the last clamp closing the 2 sides and add pieces I've never seen sold separately at the retail level.
@@zoehongteaches hi, which zipper is more reliable and lasts longer -the orange one at 6:57 or the black one on 5:10 ? I want it for front pockets on trousers .
Do they make invisible zippers with metal teeth? I have so far found none. I kind of think it would defeat the purpose, but I want a strong, hidden zipper that can withstand a lot of wear and tension.
I do alterations and I'm having a devil of a time finding those highly polished metal zippers that they're doing the exposed application in the back of dresses. also highly polished metal coat zippers. my customers always want an EXACT match. usually I show them what I have and let them pick. Even on Etsy or some other websites I've found, even if I find the zippers, they're always in black or white and I always need something like navy. it's very frustrating
YBS is a good brand too. Regardless of the brand, I recommend ordering some samples and sew them into some sample fabric and toss them into the washing machine a few times.
Since you seem to be the zipper pro, I want to ask you a question that I can't find online. DOES ALL YKK zippers have "YKK" printed on them? I made a purchase from a seller off ETSY that claims to use YKK zippers. Upon examination of the zippers, it does not say YKK anywhere at all. When I contact them they're kinda dodgy with the question.. and say "yes the zipper". I'm not sure since they're European.. either they are dodging or bad English. Pls help. Thx. -The product was kinda pricy too. I was expecting at least nice quality. :(
@@zoehongteaches Thank you so much for replying. Yup, I think she just totally scammed me or something. Very unprofessional. Everything sent were all some type of generic zipper.

I would love to see a sewing tutorial for lapped zipper. Great video as always!

I'm not in the fashion industry, not even close. But I love your videos and tips and explanations so much. It's so helpful! Thank you.
Definitely worth the time to see your tutorial on zipper installation

Tigresa I second this!
You need to contact a wash house or talk to your fabric sales rep on how they finish fabrics before you buy them.
hi,dear friend. l can help you
Just wonderful. I did learn a lot. Thank you! 🌺🤗🌺

They can be made by Sticky Fingers too!

Hello Zoe !
Will you please tell me what kind of zipper to use on high end gowns ? Brand and type also please
So helpful! Would love a zipper sewing tutorial video please
Very good ---did you leave out two sides wearable pulls ? That is reversible vests, etc.

Thank you. Wanted to know also about the different type of teeth and how it affects smoothness.
Where can I get the best fabrics & zippers at ? 🙏🏾
Hi, do you know is CSK zippers are good brand?
I have a men's compression shirt I wanted to have a zipper installed that will separate all the way up the middle of the back, what type of zipper would you recommend for that? Something that will last a long time? Thank you
A separating #5 nylon coil zip

I am going through that process in my Watch Me Design playlist.
Ok, I will check that playlist out! Thanks Zoe! Binge watching all your videos to prepare me for fashion school in the fall!
Why does my purse's zipper make my hands smell?? And how do I prevent this from happening?! I'm about to return this bag and I really don't want to.
great video!!
What type of thread and pattern paper do you use?

Not that I know of, yes, I think it would defeat the purpose.
Zoe Hong ;-; Aww, I was kind of hoping that they did exist. Oh well, maybe I should figure out how to make a tiny flap that covers it. XD

How long of a zipper do i need? Want to make zipper pouches...
I think , I can help u>
I pushed the 900 like :D
