Some cold-pressed or extra virgin coconut oil (VCO or EVCO) can actually go rancid if not consumed fairly quickly. This is something a lot of people don't know can happen. The reason it does is probably because the oil has some suspended solids (like lignans?) that may decompose. It is for this reason that some coconut oil producers refine the oil. However, refining doesn't necessarily mean heating. It could just be filtering. If bleaching isn't done (and it usually isn't for VCO), this is all good. Note that I'm not talking of large scale commercial oil production using heavy mechanical presses and high temperatures and pressure. Such methods are usually reserved for non-edible coconut oil for cosmetic purposes. This is because the coconut flesh of even spoiled, mold-covered nuts is used. The extracted oil then has to be further refined and bleached. But some edible coconut oil is extracted using heat, but it is still labelled as virgin or extra virgin oil because low heat is used. There's 2 ways heat can be used: 1. First extract coconut cream by manually pressing the shredded coconut flesh. Then pour the cream into a pot with water and gently simmer. Doing this separates the oil and you can scoop or decant it from the top. 2. You can just place shredded coconut flesh in a pot on low heat and extract the oil as it separates out. Both heating methods use fairly low temperatures, and coconut oil is very stable, so the oil still qualifies as VCO. I really don't think that either way drastically affects the quality. Why use heat, though? Mainly because it produces a very clear oil with a wonderful aroma, while also removing all suspensions and ensuring the oil can't go rancid. I thought I'd just put in my two cents.

Canola is a type of Rapeseed created through science and husbandry or scientific husbandry. The substance in Rapeseed ( erucic acid) is toxic to rats and possibly very few humans who like rats cannot process erucic acid (it is not certain if humans incapable of processing erucic acid do even exist). Canola in the USA cannot have more than 2% of erucic acid. The Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio in Canola oil is 2:1. Any ratio in between 4:1 to 1:1 is considered good. I love how people love to beat on canola oil and walnuts. Walnuts are the only nuts that almost fall within the range (4.3 to 1 ratio).

Grapeseed oil has been researched as beneficial for the heart! and How do you find if your product has refined coconut oil or extra virgin coconut oil?
gotta look on the back where the ingredients are. always make sure the oil is expeller pressed or organic. if it doesnt say those, the oil was highly processed, which is why most of the oils are considered bad because of their processing.
According to this study (PMID: 27559299), grape seed oil is very beneficial with its antioxidant content. Does it become unhealthy if it's used for cooking, is that what you mean?
Grapeseed oil is good for massages. I originally heard from a masseuse on youtube that It doesn't heat up very quickly and that has been my experience.
I was totally poisoning myself with canola oil/rape seed oil. I had oatly oatmilk (made with rapeseed oil) each day with breakfast and I was constantly sick with a chest cough. I finally cut out the oatly and my chest cough is gone on the first day.
@@robertsabharwal9787 I imagine the Dipotassium Phosphate wasn't good for me either. But I've tested rapeseed oil with other foods since that. It's bad news.
It's not just the ratio that matters, it's the amount. Avocado oil has around 10% omega6 which is among the lowest. The lowest I'm aware of is macadamia nut oil which is around 2% omega6.
I think Thomas should do a video on specifically why omega six is bad for you. Because to agree he sounds unsure. There is a cold press and they never speak about coldpressed seed oil with omega 6. Are there any benefits from oils that is called press that has omega 6 and 9. We need to get more specific here. It appears that oils that has omega six when heated tends to become toxic but they need to explain that so we can have a greater understanding. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, But they need to explain and get more specific instead of rushing to the Internet to be the first to tell it.
I think it was just a little confusing the why Thomas stated it. Canola oil is just less healthy. It has nothing to do with its abundance. It is abundant because it is so cheap to make, that is why it is in so many products.
There are way more than five bad oils, but one of the things that makes soybean oil so bad is that it is everywhere, and therefore harder to avoid. If you only ran into it in a few items that most people don't consume often it wouldn't make the list because exposure would be minimized..
Listen to this for sure. I like coconut oil but the less refined one. A recent example of this. We've gone oil free. At least me. Pandemic home cooking, i went full corn oil and oil corn. Was then started down diabetic bath, metabolic syndrom, fast. Poor circulation. Both of us started getting deep leg pains. Took all the oils out, OMAD and voila, sympoms are reversing and weight is flying off. Wife didn't do omad, just changed the oils. She lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. Hurray. Love this life now.
What is best oil to cook and sear steaks with? Grape seed? High smoking point, neutral taste. Maybe getting expeller pressed would avoid by products such as hexane. Omega 6 content should not be an issue as long as your diet contains plenty of omega 3. Actually omega 6 is essential, not necessarily a bad thing, just don’t want too much in overall diet. Oxidation is the only thing that worries me, but isn’t that what a smoking point essentially means? The temp in which the oil oxidizes? Next best oil maybe lard...
on mayor point. ldl is not correlated with more mortality but the oposite. the thing is omega6/omega3 unbalance create cronic inflamation and colesterol need to be on the tusies to reapir damage, si increasing omega6 you need more work to be done by ldl. The problem isnt the ldl, theyr are the firefigthers, not the pyromaniacs
So what oils should be used in high heat applications that are also cheap? I know avacado, ghee or clarified butter is an option but it's not cost effective enough for say frying or pan frying. Unrefined Coconut and olive oil aren't options as frying takes place between 425-475 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can deep fry at 350 man and you can use an olive oil. There is higher smoke point olive oil, maybe sacrifice a bit of nutrition but not near as bad as most oils.
I don't understand all of this. If we avoid oils because the omega 6 is fragile but we don't want omega 6, how tf is that a con? I just keep seeing the same stuff repeatedly but this question is never answered I feel like
What about extra virgin organic mustard oil? Mustard oil naturally has omega 3 as well. Not sure why European countries banned it, even though mustard sause is quite popular over there.
Ok I’ve got a question. I just noticed in our organic oat milk, it includes organic canola oil. Should we look for another form of non dairy milk? Can not have almond milk.
The host is clearly upset about hexane being used in the extraction process - but he should be interested in hexane residues in the final product. They're negligible.
Well alfredo sauce is basically just heavy cream, butter, garlic and parmesan (sometimes cream cheese as well) all combined in a sauce pan with whichever seasonings you desire. I know that ready made makes using it simpler, but it's really one of the easier sauces to make and you get to control every ingredient that's in it. Multiple recipe sites have decent variations on that core setup from above.
Chinese have used peanut oil to stir fry for a long time. What’s your opinion of it? As for sesame oil, my grandma always told us to drizzle it after turning off the heat.

Good for mentioning the high-oleic version of soybean and expeller-pressed canola. So, if you are frying with Coconut oil, does it being virgin or not still matter? Also, lately I have been looking into Camelina Oil, which is suppose have a pretty good oil profile. Any take on it?
I know a fat guy who is now very thin as he simply abandoned seed oils. I NEVER eat outside because of this. I know ALL restaurants use the cheapest oil by the ounce (unit cost) to maximize profit. but I have not checked chipotle. isn't that a healthy place? I think they use seed oils too in some of their stuff that is not raw/fresh like spinach leaves etc.

also, if you are buying some dirt cheap olive oil, its deff something not right with it and it is also not good for you. For most of the oils that were described as "good" some brands do not make them in a healthy way so it is actually not good.

Some cold-pressed or extra virgin coconut oil (VCO or EVCO) can actually go rancid if not consumed fairly quickly. This is something a lot of people don't know can happen. Thats the point i’m searching in comments
look at the sponsored links
It's not just the ratio that matters, it's the amount. Avocado oil has around 10% omega6 which is among the lowest. The lowest I'm aware of is macadamia nut oil which is around 2% omega6.
Grapeseed oil is generally recognized as the best oil for seasoning iron skillets btw!!
Where does cottonseed oil come in? Thanks for your videos, really helpful.
It comes in from the cotton trash, another genetically modified oil, that’s artificially refined
How does the prevalence or abundance of an oil make it less healthy? This makes no sense
@fung whyou oh lord. No need to be rude!!!!!!
Canola Oil is so bad, it is one ingredient short of being hydraulic lube or a plastic...yuck!
Yeah disgusting the world needs to move on
@@PrincipalProductions only olive oil and avocado is all we need

Can someone explain me why is canola oil not keto friendly if it is 0% net carbs? I don’t understand all this inflammatory stuff
Actually, where I live it is very difficult to find any of these oils but sunflower oil is very common and it should be listed
So what is the most healthy oil for frying?
MaVeRiCk MoDe yes sir!
Thank you!

Avocado oil up to 530, or macadamia nut oil if you don't go above 410
Where do you get your information from ?
on mayor point.
ldl is not correlated with more mortality but the oposite. the thing is omega6/omega3 unbalance create cronic inflamation and colesterol need to be on the tusies to reapir damage, si increasing omega6 you need more work to be done by ldl. The problem isnt the ldl, theyr are the firefigthers, not the pyromaniacs
How in the world is COTTONSEED OIL not on this list. It's not even a food and we eat it!
Hi, black seed oil, consumed raw- any good?
How to distinguish coconut oil from refined coconut oil?
Egor Kotkin read the label
So what oils should be used in high heat applications that are also cheap?
I know avacado, ghee or clarified butter is an option but it's not cost effective enough for say frying or pan frying.
Unrefined Coconut and olive oil aren't options as frying takes place between 425-475 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can deep fry at 350 man and you can use an olive oil. There is higher smoke point olive oil, maybe sacrifice a bit of nutrition but not near as bad as most oils.
@@vainfist6896 yes less nutritional yet much safer.
@@vainfist6896 alright you could slowly fry 1 thing at a time. And for sauteeing or pan frying? The temp is still 400+
I want a healthy choice
Use butter or ghee
And don't deep fry
Surprised you didn't include sunflower oil. Its far worse than the coconut you mentioned.
They don't use hexane with organic grapeseed oil, you're basically going off of non-organic variants lol.
Why would you bother with organic grape seed oil if you can get olive oil though?
WAS going to buy a 3 liter grape seed oil at Costco. Thanks
I only use grape seed to season my cast iron. It's the best for that
Nothing wrong with corn oil. Especially for derp frying or baking.
There are also studies on extra virgin coconut oil that showed bad outcomes, but a little less worse dan processed
Thank you for the great information, Thomas :)
Did anyone notice when Thomas spoke about coconut oil that the graphic text said "extra virgin olive oil"?
How about steamed coconut oil to remove the smell? I don’t want all my cooking to smell like coconut
I don't understand all of this. If we avoid oils because the omega 6 is fragile but we don't want omega 6, how tf is that a con? I just keep seeing the same stuff repeatedly but this question is never answered I feel like
What about groundnut(peanut) oil🤔🤔🤔🤔
What about extra virgin organic mustard oil? Mustard oil naturally has omega 3 as well. Not sure why European countries banned it, even though mustard sause is quite popular over there.
Ok I’ve got a question. I just noticed in our organic oat milk, it includes organic canola oil. Should we look for another form of non dairy milk? Can not have almond milk.
The host is clearly upset about hexane being used in the extraction process - but he should be interested in hexane residues in the final product. They're negligible.
Grape seed oil has less saturated fat than olive oil, so wouldn’t it be a better choice?
still trying to find alfredo sauce without soybean oil =(
Well alfredo sauce is basically just heavy cream, butter, garlic and parmesan (sometimes cream cheese as well) all combined in a sauce pan with whichever seasonings you desire.
Hey so I've been watching your videos on long term fasting and with the my current situation. (I'm not actively working or doing anything other than my work outs) od be interested in knowing what happens with frequent long term fasts. For example 48 hours weekly. I'm not suggesting I'm going to do this more I'm just interested to know the effects if there are any studies you could point me to for research. Thanks youve helped me so much.. 18 pounds lighter already!!!
Just finishes an amazing interview from Tom Bil on Impact Theory! With Dave A. Everything you need to know about fasting! Im using the 16-8 method after my 72 hours of just vitamins and tea.
Great video! Thanks for the info. Keep up the great work!
Great Video ,Great information ,I guess most deep frying really isn't great for you .moderation is the key I guess .
Wow, heard grapeseed had benefits.

PERIOD
It has to be cold pressed and organic
I put grapeseed oil on my body and hair! Is that bad?
I asked the same question. I love grapeseed oil. A lil nervous now. :-(
I dont think so. Just dont eat it
I liked grape seed oil because of high smoke temp. I had no idea.
Corn 🌽 canola & soybean = the worst on my list. These are so overly processed and unnatural. Avocado 🥑 oil on the other end is one of my favs. Powerful video brother !!!!!
i think too that avocat is the best in the nature for us ...... when i eat an avocat i feel so good after !!
Thanks for your time Sir
Today I was wondering about this and you posted, thanks for the information 💗
My gut feeling is to avoid seed oils.
This is such valuable info to know the inflammatory response to oil especially if I'm trying to reduce inflammation with my keto diet.
But you didn't include palm oil/palm kernel oil on this list 😐👎?.
What about Castrol GTX? Some of my best meals have been doused in that shit 💁♂️
Its bad too
Use lard or tallow folks. Those are the best, period. Do not cook with olive oil as it partially hydronates it.
6:23 stop. So coconut or olive oil?
I only cook with canabis oil
THANK YOU for clarifying!
We in India use physically pressed oil mustard, rice bran, groundnut, coconut
What if grapeseed oil is extracted naturally (pressed) and without hexane.
I would love to know more about peanut oil.
Trying hard to listen but all these camera changes make me laugh how many cameras do u have man
Omg i was JUST thinking the same thing. Its distracting me from the info.
Lol yeah wtf

Good for mentioning the high-oleic version of soybean and expeller-pressed canola.
So, if you are frying with Coconut oil, does it being virgin or not still matter?
Also, lately I have been looking into Camelina Oil, which is suppose have a pretty good oil profile. Any take on it?
Is sunflower oil ok?
What about sunflower oil?
Great Video Thomas 👍
I know a fat guy who is now very thin as he simply abandoned seed oils. I NEVER eat outside because of this. I know ALL restaurants use the cheapest oil by the ounce (unit cost) to maximize profit. but I have not checked chipotle. isn't that a healthy place? I think they use seed oils too in some of their stuff that is not raw/fresh like spinach leaves etc.
Safflower Oil seems unhealthy to me. Ragweed allergies.
What about animal fats like tallow or duck fat?
is it bad to heat virgin coconut oil to prepare some hot dishes?
Gave up my mayonnaise when I saw it had soybean oil in it.
1:24. What if grapeseed oil says it is expeller pressed? No hexane then? On the jar it says high smoke point, temperatures up to 420 deg F. What say you? Thanks
Watching this after just having eaten a blueberry muffin from Whole Foods, which has canola oil! Cmon Whole Foods! Give me some muffins made with butter or avocado oil!
also, if you are buying some dirt cheap olive oil, its deff something not right with it and it is also not good for you. For most of the oils that were described as "good" some brands do not make them in a healthy way so it is actually not good.
Hey Thomas, you guys always warn about canola oil. What about rapseed oil, here in Europe that's way more common. Rapeseed oil has an omega-3 to omega-6 ratio of 1:2
