I'm a 22 year old guy, and I have been trying to braid my own hair for years. To everyone that is fed up and frustrated and contemplating just shaving their head (just like I was), please don't give up. It takes so many attempts, but I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. Please don't give up ❤️
I'm seeing so many people struggling and I used to be the exact same way! I have REALLY thick and long hair and I always thought I just wasn't capable. But if you keep practicing, you will get it, I promise! Pro-tip that helped me learn: If you really can't get this method to work, try doing the exact same thing, except crossing the sections of hair under each other instead of over. The braid will look inverted, but nobody will notice. This is the method I use and it works every time now that I've practiced a lot.
Imma cry 😭😭😭 This is such a great tutorial, one of the easiest I could find online but I still couldn’t follow. My arms feel sore and my hair’s a mess 😭 I wanna practice this with the other anguished folks in this comments section 😂
Just braided my own hair for the first time! It’s not even close to perfect, but it’s braided. For everyone struggling, it really helps to keep the left and right strands over the shoulders until they get too short, which by then you should be able to bring the braid over to the front. Hope this helps! Idk what I’m doing but it worked for me😂
This comment might've single handedly saved half of my hair length. I was genuinely considering cutting a lot of my hair off bc they bother me at work, get all tangled and the static is awful on them. I couldn't grasp braiding but putting two strands over my shoulders helped SO MUCH I actually braided my hair twice this evening and I will continue training. Thank you!!
Her hair: perfect Mine, after trying for the hundredth time: tangled, with random strands everywhere, super thick and long, and not even halfway finished when the video ends
I wanna say I grew up without a mom figure majority of my life, so learning how to braid my own hair at 19 is super exciting:,) I really thought I was just gonna go my whole life without knowing thank you
Thank you so much for having subtitles. I struggle with understanding people speaking when I haven't heard them for a long time, and having subs is such a lifesaver.
I'm a 12 year old and have been struggling with my hair for a while now since it's really frizzy. I was always struggling since my hair was always long as well, and not as smooth as yours. Except now I have figured out how to braid my hair all thanks to this video. Thank you for taking time out of your day to help others learn how to braid
Just tried this on my self and after many attempts I did it! A very sloppy job, but it looks like a braid and it's not tangled. I think the secret is the finger placement. I never had any problems doing a basic braid on someone else's head, but on my self yes. On the first few tries I replicated the same finger movements I normally use when I braid someone else's hair, and that was the problem; since my hands where now facing backwards. So the trick is to really pay attention to her fingers. What I found useful is how she moves the strands of hair across the other with only her index finger and thumb, while the rest is held in place by the other fingers; and how she lets go of the middle strand of hair when she needs to cross it with the side strand. And of course you need to practice so that the movement becomes natural. I don't know if I explained my self properly, but I hope my comment was useful. English is not my first language so feel free to correct me.
I grew up braiding the hair of dolls, braiding my friend's hair, but for the life of me I could not get my hands to cooperate when attempting to braid my own hair until I, at about 23 years old, figured out that I could go under each center strand/dutch braid. Even then I really did need a step-by-step explain-it-to-me-like-I'm-4 video to help me out (really, I just slowed a video down to 25% speed and made frustrated noises for a while). I'm really uncoordinated once I can't see what my hands are doing, and videos like this would have been a big help back in the day. I still struggle because all three parts will constantly be different thicknesses buuuuut.
It took me 2 real attempts but the first 2 were full of anger and resentment for this woman who spoke SOOOO FASTTTT but I guess I got it quicker than most lol my default is definitely crying but first I usually get extremely angry lol guess I did it too fast to get there 😅
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm trying to get into hair, but I always find it so awkward and unwieldy to do. Having basic tutorials like this are helpful.
@@EverydayHairInspiration I'm having the same problem. When I try to move the hair around, a lot of flyaways tend to go free or 'defect' to other strands. I can get a strand on the left or on the right, but beyond that it becomes a huge mess of hair that doesn't know where it wants to go. it's the same the same feeling i had when i tried and failed to juggle. 1 ball--great...2nd and 3rd--they all fall to the floor maybe i need a video about how to grow more than 2 hands, lol XD
I'm a bloke with hair that now comes nearly halfway down my back, and while I've got the bun sorted, the plat is more difficult. Thanks for this video, it makes it look easy, so time to practice. My hair is very thick and very wavy and especially after washing it's frizz factor 10. My wife has braided my hair several times and we both like it. Time to practice, Thanks.
Im a teen and after watching this video like four times I actually made a decent braid now I can do my own Volleyball hair. Thank you so much. My mom’s been trying to teach me for forever. Just watching your video made me learn and like thank you so much. It’s been so long. I’ve been trying to learn how to braid my hair thank you thank you thank you.
I'm 11 years old, and I'm using my dad's RUclips account but, GOSH, you helped me a lot!!! I struggled a lot at trying to braid my own hair and, I found this video, I watched it, and BAM! At the end I knew just how to do it! Thank you for this AWESOME hair tutorial!
For those of you having a hard time learning, until you get the hang of it, start off with a ponytail. If your hair is long, and that's why you're having trouble, hang the ponytail to the side, over your shoulder, then split it into 3 pieces & follow her directions from there. You'll be able to watch yourself work this way. The biggest thing to remember, for a neat looking braid, is to pull it tight each time. It's simple if you just remember that your left goes over the middle, then right over the middle, then left over middle, right over middle. Pull tight every time you pull the strand away from the middle
Thank you so much! I've been trying to braid my own hair for the longest time and I just couldn't get the hang of it. This video made it so much easier!!

I struggled with this at first until I really focused on grabbing the strands EXACTLY like she does and it kind of just clicked and kinda voiced it in my head like she says in the video Lol but I think the hardest part was keeping the strands separate/ remembering where to go with the next one. But holding it how she says helps with this a lot. Thanks!
For me, it was easy for me to watch you directly and do it AS I SAW YOU DO IT, than to play it then go try it while looking in the mirror. Some things that help me think about about it was I swapping each side. So first get two braids on the right side, swap them, then with my left hand, make a pinching motion with index finger and thumb to grab the far sided braid after the swap. Then do the same on the left side: get two braids there, swap them, then make the pinching motion with right hand and grab the far sided braid. My braid came out ugly in the end, but now I have a mental model I can practice with.
I have shorter hair that is incredibly thick (not even my friends can braid it), but this tutorial works so well! Now I can efficiently braid my own hair and it feels amazing.
I past half of my school years just in side braid cause I was just so unable to braid my own hair straight . You cleared my basics, no matter how my other sisters explained , I just didn't get it. Thank you so much.
Lol I’m starting to think some people literally just can’t braid hair… it’s almost like I don’t have the ability to reach my hands back and do my own hair like at all except for a ponytail 😂

wow 🙈💕this tutorial might actually help it is as if someone really tries to show you how to move your hands exactly at every moment 💖i will def try this one this is amazing 💕
TIP: One of the things that helped follow this tutorial is thinking of how I should braid the hair if I am doing it on the side and if I am doing it on the back. If I do it on my side, I tend to cross the hair away from my front (over), and before I could never do it on my back because I kept following the same technique, but if you do it like that it will actually be (under)! If you guys notice her hands, she is doing the braid and the braid is being crossed away from her back (over)! Not sure if I could explain well, but I hope it helps!
Really nice tutorial. I had to slow it down in order to really comprehend what was going on, to see what you were doing in slow motion, but I managed. I'm so relieved, I needed to learn this in order to properly cosplay Aerith from Final Fantasy VII, for a convention this weekend. Now I will look 100% stabbable (fandom joke) Also, I've noticed that there's some people in the comments that are still frustrated... If it helps any, I'd recommend to slow the video way down like I did. Also, the braiding process is just pulling the leftmost strand into the middle, then the rightmost strand into the middle. It just repeats like that- left, right, left, right. And in case you're confused about this, when she says "left" for example, she means the strand that is *currently* on the left, not the one that *started* on the left. That kinda thing trips me up sometimes so I figured I'd mention it. If you have a friend or family member with long hair, it might help to ask to practice braiding *their* hair, because then you can see what you're doing as you get a feel for how braiding works. But it is still pretty difficult to braid your own hair, and I had to take it really slow because I have trouble with fine motor movements. Slow down if you can, take breaks between attempts if you're getting frustrated, and keep trying. Good luck!
im not bluffing or anything, but i've lived all my live not being able to braid my own hair cuz I don't know the basic principle, and LEGIT right after I saw this. I'm finally able to braid my hair :") as I'm so proud of myself, everyone has to know that I'm finally able to do it!! Thankyouu so much!
Over and into the middle. Over and into the middle. Over and into the middle. I think I can do this! (With lots and lots of practice.) Thank you for a great tutorial!
I didn’t learn how to braid properly till I was 17 I’m 23 now and I still didn’t know how to do a one braid by myself this video helped me so much more !
Thank you! I have never been able to braid hair i always asked my parents and friends but thankyou for teaching me how to braid my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GUYS I DID IT!! I’ve been practicing for like 3 days lol. When you learn the first two steps it becomes easier and easier! I know it REALLY hurts but you can do this! As long as you can braid someone else’s hair you can do this easily, you just have to go through the pain!
The tutorial is short and sweet, and I was able to do it rather easily after a minute. It looked terrible on me and I hated the feeling of it on my head, but the tutorial is good, 10/10.
I highly doubt that you will see this but what you are doing is so amazing and helpful. Also I have a request, I have seen girls my age wearing their hair in 2 fishtail braids, if you could please do a tutorial for that, it would be greatly appreciated
This was actually my first ever braid I've done- It's kinda messy, But I'm not going anywhere, I'm just gonna sleep with a braid so my hair isn't knotted. But soon enough I'll be able to do a clean braid on my own.!
Thank youuuuu! Nobody has ever taken the time to teach me how to braid my own hair. I was embarrassed that as an adult, I still couldn't braid my own hair. The way you keep repeating the steps you were doing out loud was especially helpful!
In case anyone is struggling with the pattern: braiding hair has been described as it being “like the strands of hair are playing tag”. Left in, right in, continue to trade places with the middle. yeah :,)
i watched so many tutorials on how to braid my hair but this ..THIS is the only tutorial that actually helped me and now i can braid my hair finally ;w;
Lmao.. I’m forced to braid my hair, but I have no idea how to do it. Hope this helps :,) Edit: Ok. It helped! Thank you so much! It isn’t perfect tho, but I will try over and over again :)
@horrorripples3332 I am an Indian boy with long hair, what i do to section hair into three equal parts is hold all of your hair in a ponytail with one hand and on the other hand close all fingers and only open index, middle and ring finger and put it from top towards your front of your other hand where you caught it in a ponytail, it wont exactly divide into 3 sections but it works pretty easily and u can continue doing your normal braid
I found it helpful to watch it once and then play it back at half speed while I was actually trying to do it. I found the half speed to be going at the right pace for me :)

I have shorter hair that is incredibly thick (not even my friends can braid it), but this tutorial works so well! Now I can efficiently braid my own hair and it feels amazing.
i tried once without seing a tutorial and it didn't even look that I braided my hair, but when I watched this it was wayyy easier. tysm!! :D

I past half of my school years just in side braid cause I was just so unable to braid my own hair straight . You cleared my basics, no matter how my other sisters explained , I just didn't get it. Thank you so much.

wow 🙈💕this tutorial might actually help it is as if someone really tries to show you how to move your hands exactly at every moment 💖i will def try this one this is amazing 💕
AAAAAAAAA I did my first braid, awesome guide!
YES!! So happy for you! x
Never realized how easy it could be. I don’t like braids but a,k I’d the sudden I want to do it, this helped me better then someone irl. Thank you
TIP: One of the things that helped follow this tutorial is thinking of how I should braid the hair if I am doing it on the side and if I am doing it on the back. If I do it on my side, I tend to cross the hair away from my front (over), and before I could never do it on my back because I kept following the same technique, but if you do it like that it will actually be (under)! If you guys notice her hands, she is doing the braid and the braid is being crossed away from her back (over)! Not sure if I could explain well, but I hope it helps!
i understand and it helped, thanks
Good luck!
I have been trying to do a braid for so long to look girly, and after this video it made me have a braid. Like omg :0
im not bluffing or anything, but i've lived all my live not being able to braid my own hair cuz I don't know the basic principle, and LEGIT right after I saw this. I'm finally able to braid my hair :") as I'm so proud of myself, everyone has to know that I'm finally able to do it!! Thankyouu so much!
Oh such a nice braid!!! I love this 💕
Thank you so much!! x
I have tried many vid but never been successful..but urs oh god! Tysm this vid taught me within 2 days!
Tried for about two hours straight, I couldn't do it. But I'll be sure to try again tomorrow.
This is a very helpful video. Before this I can't made a braid by my own hair. After watching this video I am making a braid everyday by me.
I’ve never been able to braid my own hair, but with this tutorial, I finally did! Yay! Thank you so much!
Over and into the middle. Over and into the middle. Over and into the middle. I think I can do this! (With lots and lots of practice.) Thank you for a great tutorial!
Thanks a lot for this video I learnt to braid my hair....
So happy I could help you out! x
Honestly this made it so much easier I watched other videos but didn’t really get it, thank you!!!
About the easiest walkthrough available for this wizardry
So happy you liked it!! x
I couldn't braid it back for the longest time and then boom, looked it up, found your vid, u showed the hand placements and it clicked! Tysm.
I didn’t learn how to braid properly till I was 17 I’m 23 now and I still didn’t know how to do a one braid by myself this video helped me so much more !
I’ve tried many many tutorials and this is the easiest one ever!!!
Thank you soo much for the tutorial. This was the first time I made my braid myself. Thank you so much.😊
Thank you! I have never been able to braid hair i always asked my parents and friends but thankyou for teaching me how to braid my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy I could help you out! x
OMG I just got a like from my favorite youtuber
I am 11 years old and I finally
learnt how to braid my hair without any help thanks sister 😘😄
GUYS I DID IT!! I’ve been practicing for like 3 days lol. When you learn the first two steps it becomes easier and easier! I know it REALLY hurts but you can do this! As long as you can braid someone else’s hair you can do this easily, you just have to go through the pain!
Omg thank you so much for this video it’s so helpful
I can braid my hair like this fine, it’s the shoulder strain that gets me.
The tutorial is short and sweet, and I was able to do it rather easily after a minute. It looked terrible on me and I hated the feeling of it on my head, but the tutorial is good, 10/10.
OMG THIS HELP SO GOOD NOW I CAN MAKE IT ON MY SLEF AND BARBIES LOL thank you!!
I highly doubt that you will see this but what you are doing is so amazing and helpful. Also I have a request, I have seen girls my age wearing their hair in 2 fishtail braids, if you could please do a tutorial for that, it would be greatly appreciated
Hi! Is it 2 fishtail braids on the head, like French braids or 2 fishtail braids starting at the bottom of the head like the braiding the video? x
EverydayHairInspiration like French braids! Tysm you are so awesom
I have already filmed that, just need to edit it and post it 😁
EverydayHairInspiration tysm you must’ve seen my comment on a different post! 🤗
But i have filmed it on the doll and not myself, but i will put that on my list! 😁
Best video your video saved me from the taunts I've been listening 😢..I'll subscribe you and support you at any cost ❤
Watching this in 2024 as a 21 year old woman and still can’t braid
this is so hard, took me 45 minutes first time to get any progress - but now I've got a somewhat braid in place and I'm loving it!!
In case anyone is struggling with the pattern: braiding hair has been described as it being “like the strands of hair are playing tag”. Left in, right in, continue to trade places with the middle. yeah :,)
this helped so much im only ten and i couldent do it but now i watched this vid i can tysm!!
This is exactly why I want short hair- I can’t even do this omd
i watched so many tutorials on how to braid my hair but this ..THIS is the only tutorial that actually helped me and now i can braid my hair finally ;w;
Lmao.. I’m forced to braid my hair, but I have no idea how to do it. Hope this helps :,)
Edit: Ok.
OMGGGG IM 5TH COMMENTT
YEESS!! x
I found it helpful to watch it once and then play it back at half speed while I was actually trying to do it. I found the half speed to be going at the right pace for me :)
I keep getting my hairs mixed up
My hair will always be in a ponytail
i love your hair color!
I've been trying to braid my hair for years. I genuinely think it's impossible. I can't hold all of the pieces of hair.
in my 14 years, i've never been able to braid my own hair, but this video helped me sm and now I can do it!! tysm
I tried to tie my hair into three sections like pigtails amd a ponytail before I watched this
Thanks girl this is help me so much i am basically 12 year old girl and in y school i really wanted to make a braid bcz it's so comfortable and i look more pretty in it❤ luv u
