How to Man Braid Your Own Hair - Mens Long Hairstyles

  • Welcome to today's video where I'm gonna be showing you how to man braid your own hair. This one is for all of you guys that have been wanting to learn how to braid your own hair How you can do it on your own without needing to ask someone else.
The reason I'm doing this video today is because this topic has been highly requested for me to teach you guys how to braid.
I have done videos about it before, however, I feel like some of you guys have missed that and there's never any harm in doing a bit of updated content. I thought braiding was a very scary thing when I first started doing it. I was like, "There is no way in hell I'm ever gonna be able to get that."
However, once you actually get in there and have a go with the right instruction, it's far easier than you think. And plus, when you learn how to braid your own hair, you don't have to rely on your mum or your sister or your girlfriend to come and do it for you.So, you can just be a self-sustained unit, you know what I mean? That's what we like.
The way I did this in my previous “how to braid hair video” was, I broke down the basics of what plaiting is because plaiting is literally just intertwining the hair without actually having it connected to the head, but braiding is where the plait actually incorporates other hairs on the head to make it go in one line and stay close to the scalp.
So what we're gonna do, we're gonna jump straight into how to plait first and then once we get our head around plaiting, then we're gonna see how we can incorporate it into our hair.
Braiding your own hair always revolves around three strands, well, it can revolve around three strands or it can revolve around five, but I wouldn't even know where to begin when teaching you how to do five.
You’ll probably notice in this video my braids aren't, like, the neatest ever. I have mentioned before that I’m not the world champion. However, being able to do your own braids is something that's really cool. I have this great sense of pride that I can do it by myself and the fact that I don't need to ask anybody to do it for me is just top-notch and you guys can actually do it too.
All you have to do is sit down, practise this technique that I show you in this video.
Also, I always would recommend, even though that this is an updated version of the braiding video, go back and watch that other one because the colour coding section that I used to do the braiding and the plaiting will really help you get your head around it.
But for now, this all I really have for you. I really hope you like this hairstyle and braiding tutorial.
Please let me know what you think of it in the comment section below and also, let me know how you found my teaching in this video. I always like to make my videos more thorough and really educational, so if there's anything I could do better in terms of teaching you guys, let me know.
Happy man braiding, let me know how you go with your braids and if you do get them, make sure you send me an email or shoot it to me in the Facebook group, or whatever, okay? Thanks a lot! I'll catch ya later! Bye!

Just a thought for new tutorials: teach the beginning from the front, but when it starts to get tedious, teach it from the back.
I find it more tedious because I feel like I'm having to translate the mirror reflection of what is being done. If that makes sense. But, honestly this video made it easier to understand what to do.

Oh wow, the finger grip is a game changer. Here's my tip for perfectly parting hair (had really long hair for years), it's super simple. Before the hair is fully dry (don't brush wet hair), take a brush or comb and pull back. If you angle and steer it properly then one of the teeth of the comb or brush will have made the scoring for you. Then you simply stick your fingers in between and there you have it. It's by far the fastest and simplest way to part hair in a straight line, and it's the cleanest of them all!

Took me like 15 minutes to get past the first part where you mention the rude finger crossing hair over…. My brain just couldn’t figure out what was the right thing to do next from my own perspective….
But I figured it out….. I’ve got a hit of a lopsided plat because I didn’t portion out the hair properly, but it looks cool.
    Im like a pirate now.
I’ve got this messy, spiralling piece in my hair. I dig it.

I’ve been growing my hair out for 2 months now and I’m getting to that point where my neck hairs are getting out of control. I don’t want to make a trip to the barber shop because I don’t want them to mess up my progress. And I don’t feel comfortable trimming them myself, so what should I do about this?

Just wait. I know it's hard, but just wait. Cutting isn't making it longer

I would go to the barber but with a very specific instruction. find pictures of what you want and looking deeply in his eye to let him know how serious you are about no fucking it up.

I have never had as big of a temper tantrum as I have trying to fucking braid my own hair. It's like I'm watching videos speaking an alien language and everyone else is getting it lmao.

I thought you were calling it your "root finger" 😂 I'll never call it anything other than that again. One of my favourite Aussie expressions... beaten only by "we're not here to fuck spiders"
I really appreciate you doing this and feel leaps ahead of where I was 20 minutes ago just knowing each finger has a job to do and a place to be.
Excellent video!.. Thanks from Scotland 🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
P.S - Sorry for the bad English

how long do braids last in your hair? also how much should one expect to spend to have this done? thanks

All depends on the type of hair you have. Wavy cury hair will keep the tension longer. Straighter hair especially if it's layered may fall out or get frizzy after a few hours if you don't have product in. Practice makes it go faster. One middle braid on a good day takes about 1 minute for me, I can do it while walking down the hall. On a bad day 5 minutes or more especially if there's going to be more than 1 braid or other styling things like Bobby pins or hair spray. I have straight hair.
The longer the hair you have obviously a touch longer.

I only looked this up because accouple of my female friends decided that they wanted to braid my hair. But I may have to practice for a bit but until then, I know my cousin will help me out with the braid lol
