For beginners start with the Dutch braid :) French braid is harder on yourself.
Dutch is easy on yourself, French is harder on yourself
French is easy to do on someone else but Dutch is harder to do on someone else.
I’ve mastered the Dutch braid on myself and I couldn’t braid before! I started out with French braid and couldn’t do it, my hairstylist friend told that Dutch is easier to do on yourself specially for beginners.
It only took me 2 days to get the hand technique down for Dutch and one week and a half to get a perfect braid. Dutch does look better on thicker hair but if you have thin hair it’s still a better braid to practice first.

Hey from London. 👋 I have rib cage length thick black hair being of Indian origin but this video was the one that french braiding finally sunk in for me after about a year trying on and off! Literally the highlight of lockdown. Mine isn't perfect but as she says, keep at it and you'll get it and will become neater and easier.
Tips for longer hair - try sitting at a table with a mirror to rest your elbows down on whilst holding the braid for a break. If you don't have a dressing table, perhaps move a mirror to a table, up against a wall to make a temporary make shift one. To add height and comfort, try adding a pillow on top the table so when it starts to ache you get immediate relief by dropping your elbows down.
The things we go through hey!? Happy braiding long haired and all length girls, we can do this!
Thank you for the video and your really nice manner of explaining.

I have watched every tutorial on how to French braid on my own hair on YT. Literally tried everyone, and got so so frustrated with them all. After trying your "cross then add" method, I finally got it! It's not neat yet but it just clicked.
For my fellow can't braiders, think about it like the French twist: it's the same thing except with 3 strands, and so you're crossing into the middle and adding immediately to the new bottom or top strand that was previously the middle piece!

I just wanted to commend you on this video- I've watched about 4 this morning and this one was by far the best!
Love your tips, especially that you take your time. This seems like something peaceful in your usual routine that others find stressful. It really is a skill to be learned!
I originally learned how to braid going under, not over, and for years I didn't understand why I couldn't do a French braid. Today I took the time to look it up! I will say a French braid is much harder for me! Going under I can just twist my hands. But the Dutch braids get messy a lot faster, which is why I wanted to flip them in. We share a lot of the same techniques- hand position, angling 45 degrees, adding hair at the beginning. But your explanation as to why my right braid looks significantly better makes a lot of sense! Thanks for all of this! ❤️

Thank you for the first time I was able to do this! I think the key for me was adding a piece to the middle each time. I use to try to add hair to all of the 3 sections, for each braid 🤦🏽‍♀️verses just adding hair to the middle. And it was just always a mess! And your triangle starting point helped a lot too!!!

Hands down, the BEST tutorial I have seen for French braiding!! You should consider a career in teaching! You touched on so many little details, tips and tricks that others don’t. It’s so helpful! I have ADHD and OCD, and I’m 44 years old! I’ve been trying to learn how to do this for a very long time!! After watching this video, I feel more confident than ever before!! Thank you!! I do have two questions… one of the other videos I watched, the chick said to spray just a tiny bit of water on the first quarter of your head, or first half of your braid, (doing two braids like yours) to help hold the hair in place and help with flyaways too I’m sure. What do you think about this tip? Also, my hair is super thick and quite a bit longer than yours… anything different for thick hair? The grays will make some cute highlights, I’m sure! But this has ALWAYS been my favorite way to wear my hair. Even though I always had to ask someone else to do it for me! I know I can do it, it’s just a matter of getting it tight, in the placement that I want, and that the placements match!! Lol. Also, fearing the arm burn that accompanies the practice!! Lol.

I watched 5:48 of this video last night. Today I tried to braid my hair and I didn’t continue watching because I knew it wasn’t gonna help. Is my braid loose, yes. Did I mess up a couple of times, also yes. But did I do my braid without a tutorial, YES. I also have super curly hair and it’s longer that hers, so I guess that also plays a part in the fact that I didn’t understand what she was saying. This video did help me start the braid but I finished it by myself!!!
