    Interesting fact: Ray Kroc ended up becoming a Red Cross ambulance driver (after lying about his age) during the First World War and ended up serving alongside another person who also was in the Red Cross and also happened to lie about his age; a little-known man named Walt Disney.

    I live 30 miles from the original site of McDonald’s in San Bernardino, CA. I highly recommend reading, “Behind the Arches” by John F. Love. As a teacher, I was able to introduce my students (via phone) to Dick’s grandson. He told them that his grandfather felt cheated by Ray Kroc. Kroc apparently had promised them a lifetime royalty - when they sold out to him - which would have been worth many millions.

    • @kevinmalone3210
      @kevinmalone3210 2 года назад

      So my guess is the brothers didn't get the royalty.

From listening to you though, he sounded like a "Hanger On" who gave very little for something that's worth BILLIONS now!!!! But, in all fairness, no one knew that it would grow into such an ENORMOUS INSTITUTE!!!!

    The first McDonald's franchise was opened by Art Bender in Fresno, CA in 1955. Art had worked for the McDonald Bros. at their first restaurant in San Bernardino, CA which opened in 1940 and the McDonald's that we know today was opened in 1948. Art, reportedly, sold the first McDonald's hamburger. After securing the first McDonald's franchise, still at the corner of Blackstone Av. and Shields Av., Art opened many more McDonald's in Central California. Around the time when Art decided to slow things down, he started selling his franchises to the parent McDonald's corp. Eventually he sold everything to McDonald's corp. The main office for McDonald's of California is located in the basement of the McDonald's restaurant, also in Fresno, at 1739 Divisadero.

    Lamont, thank you for another great video. Everytime I watch you I learn something new.
    Could you please do a video on Rod Price? He is buried in New Hampshire.
    Rod Price was the lead and slide guitar player in a hard rock band in the seventies and again later in the nineties called Foghat.
    His is an interesting story, an excellent guitar player. imo one of the best, and a fantastic human being as well.

    Joan Kroc donated to Grand Forks, ND during the flood of 1997. Very generous donation on her part to help the city.

    Ray croc was just a thief. I seriously think the McDonald's brothers should've just kept this business to themselves because it's crazy how back then people's businesses were messed with and how they're continued to be messed with

    Like others, I recommend watching the movie 'The Founder' for understanding the gist of how the McDonald brothers were forced out of their own company by Ray Kroc.
    Also, when I was a kid, my mother was GM of three McDonald's all at the same time. We used to get invited to her boss' house for get-togethers. He owned all the McDonald's in the area, and he was LOADED. Huge house, giant pool, finished basement had a dance floor and a full-size bar, jukebox, the works. They were very, very nice people though...

    Lamont - I'm from Concord, NH right up the road and I did not know this (or if I did I had forgotten it)! Thanks for the interesting video!!!!! They should have never sold out to Ray Kroc. But that was their decision. Pat

    Have you ever thought about going to an Indian burial ground I'm native so I can lay foot on secret it's a family plot. But it's better to go at night time, that's when we go, it's just tradition. But I do want to say you do an awesome job keep up the good work
