Demilich is basically a slowed down "Kermit the Frog"-voice. Sounds stupid AF in the beginning and as an explanation. But it works. I wouldn't recommend it for longer periods though, doesn't seem all too safe.
Bro I've been watching videos about squeals toilet vox and chirps all week you are by far the God of this shit on RUclips. I still can't do fuck all but I feel like you do an excellent job explaining and demonstrating techniques. Maybe one day I'll get the hang of this shit if I keep watching your vids hahahaha keep it up yo!
@@Christiansmoviesnow are you doing false fold (aka false cord)? your lows will be your regular false fold mid with differences in position (technically you can do fry lows but most people do false fold lows and that is what I suggest and will cover here). the more difficult aspect is changing the resonant pitch of your throat. go in front of the mirror and whisper. change the "pitch" of the whisper by moving your larynx up and down. make sure the pitch is different because of your larynx position and not changes in mouth shape. when you move it down, this is the same thing that people do to make a patrick voice from spongebob squarepants, it sounds "deeper" but when you do it with your true voice, the note is not actually deeper. what is happening is you are lengthening your vocal tract and it naturally resonates at a lower pitch. this is the same principle as putting water in a glass and tapping it. when you remove water from the glass and tap it again, the pitch sounds lower because the resonant frequency is different. start with your regular mid scream and move your larynx down and it will sound lower. the amount you can go depends on your anatomy and everyone is different, so don't go low enough to strain. the opposite applies and you can move it up for highs. if you are having issues you are most likely using too much air. you need to be very relaxed and using a minimal amount of air to do this stuff. put your hand in front of your mouth while you scream and feel how much you are using and decrease if it doesn't seem minimal. the easiest other thing you can do is extend your lips into the "o" shape which changes the resonant frequency of your mouth. this is very commonly used in gutturals and has a huge impact on the sound and it's super easy. some people like to dip their head down when they do lows and when they sing low notes but this will just constrict you and it's just a mental thing, don't do that it's pointless. personally I prefer to do lows with a more open mouth and I don't always like the sound the o brings but I naturally have a very deep voice and my lower mids are pretty much a typical person's lows so I can get away with a bit more. again each person is different so what you prefer to do is 100% up to you and your voice. you can also change the sound of your low by closing off your nasal resonance. try opening your mouth and while it's open, gently push air out of your mouth and nose. now try keeping your mouth open but only push the air out of your nose, none through your mouth. it will feel like holding your breath. if you do this sensation while doing a low it will make it immediately more gurgly. while screaming, you should feel a small amount of air through your mouth and absolutely none through your nose, sorry if it seems counterintuitive but it's very hard to explain this one without being there in person. if you know how to sing a note while false fold screaming, you can gradually work on singing lower notes while doing the distortion. it takes a lot of experience to gradually work your way down. the key here is to not overproject, it's very easy to accidentally start flailing your true folds around and you will feel the discomfort immediately. and my final suggestion is to do inhales very sparingly and rely on exhales for 99%. it's very easy to hurt yourself with inhales and doing them for an extended period of time is very straining. closing note that I'm not a professional coach and these are my best attempt at explaining what works for me. if someone spots an error in my explanation just tell me, I always want to get better. cheers
Ive seen Antti warm up for Demilich, he just will repeat a few words over and over but he's just using his second vocal chords. And has deep enough of a voice to make it work. Because when he just talks its almost guttural because its just so deep especially with the Finnish accent but I taught myself 20 years ago by just copying My favorite Demilich tracks. But you still have to know how to do normal Low vocals which if you are using your throat your doing it wrong. Its all from the same area that makes the sigh sound when someone cuts you off in a car. You keep practicing the sigh until it gets lower, and lower, and lower until you can form words and with practice... DRINKING HONEY NOT BOOZE will get the job done. I didn't do this style on my guest spot on the last Pharmacist album (Im on the song Nursey Aestetics at 5:13) but if you listen to Accursed Womb you can hear me doing it a lot. With Adabesi Lives Im using a Pitch Shifter because its Gore Metal and fun. But I would never cheat and use the Shifter for Accursed Womb.
That's a good question, at this point I'm not entirely sure. I DO use a technique based in fry, but it also uses a type of compression that I frankly haven't seen anyone else really do, so I can't draw many comparisons
Hi, what place do you recommend to share techniques, reddit scream is a little dead, is there something on facebook, or other place, asides screaming discord channel?
Gabriel To my knowledge, not really, however I REALLY need to stress you check out the /r/screaming discord. It's easily the best source of screaming information on the entire internet, and believe it or not we've actually even got the legendary Melissa Cross in there (although she isn't very active, for obvious reasons). You should absolutely take a peek at it.
Great, recently i found a Reddit about mixed drive scream, and i dont really know when they start to talk about anatomy, and not just sound examples. I'm using the discord channel. Do these screams are feasible without mic, for doing a character on theater? Thank you.
Gabriel So basically there's really no scream that isn't a mixed drive. All a mixed drive is, is a combination of two or more different separate parts of the larynx (voice box). That means that everything from Phil Bozeman to Caleb Shomo to John Gallagher to Corpsegrinder Fisher, and even non-screaming sounds like the Christian Bale batman voice, Kargyraa (also called "throat bass"), and legitimate straight yelling are all mixed drives! Really the best thing to do would be to try to figure out a vocalist you want to emulate who has significant volume and try to figure out what anatomical parts he or she is using.

Although I can do them, I rarely find myself wanting to; can't really pronounce anything with it, it's nice for layering underneath another recording or maybe holding during a breakdown, but beyond that it's a pretty meh technique.
I do feel obligated to warn you about inhales; I'm not gonna be one of those people to shit on you for doing them, or tell you they're bad, if you're doing them correctly then great. Just bear in mind it's a LOT easier to harm yourself with inhales than exhales, and remember that any type of pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. I personally think exhales are just more versatile and useful than inhales, but I listen to quite a few bands that do inhales myself; not an elitist, just wanted to let you know that inhales carry dangers that aren't present with exhales, and to be cautious.
@@thg5207 Everyone sucks at doing exhales at first; I spent 4 years doing Christian Bale "Batman" noises until I ever made a decent, safe distorted sound. Most people won't take that long, I'm sure, but just remember that you'll never improve if you don't start somewhere.
My vocal style is naturally pretty "gurgly" sounding so that probably has something to do with it, but I've found using a lower volume also brings out the distorted tone more.

Don't feel bad about inhales bro. Exhales are more powerful and safer. The vocal cords aren't made to reserve what they do.

@@shapeshiftingnacho4562 myy lows are only inhale. I mean i can do exhale, but its much much easier for me to do inhale. Do u guys have any tips?

inhales are more safe if you know what you’re doing. they don’t destroy your voice like exhales.
I easily can do inhales, it's just a chest voice or something, and doesn't break my vocals
