    My juvenile B albopilosum just refused food, has a huge abdomen, looks off colour and has a slight bald patch, I think it's in premolt, sooo excited!

    I held a Brazilian black at an expo a few months ago then I got my first t-A. Seemanni a month ago. Now I have 3 arboreals lol. I was terrified of even the smallest spider. So glad I’ve gotten over my fear(for the most part) and I can enjoy this hobby

    A couple of years ago I had rather bad arachnophobia I was absolutely terrified of spiders and tarantulas I got over my fear too I found this very interesting how often do they molt and does the amount depend on the type of spiders

    I’m a new keeper. I’ve got a G Pulchripes that is around the 2” mark (haven’t measured it). I’ve only had it for about three weeks now. It was really fat when I bought it and the seller said that he figured it would molt pretty soon. It spends most of its time just chilling outside of its burrow. It’s eaten twice since I’ve gotten it and now it’s refusing food. I guess it either has to be premolt or just a hunger strike but I is a bit nerve racking. It’s abdomen is still a pretty good size but definitely not fat anymore. I haven’t noticed any changes in abdomen color yet (it’s only been on food strike for about five days). It’s definitely more skittish than it was before. It used to just scrunch itself to be small when I opened the lid but now it has actually bolted into its burrow. No hair kicking at all though (thank God). I have provided it with a bottle cap water dish so I’m not really worried about it. If someone reads this and wants to voice their opinion, be my guest. I’m guessing that it’s going into premolt

    My b.hamorii hasn't molted on over a year. A little annoying. She was much more consistent last year. I hope she molts soon though so I can decide if she is ready for a custom built enclosure.

    I got a Brachypelma boehmei last week and it’s blocked off it’s hide with substrate I did notice that it had a bald patch on its abdomen so it’s either in pre molt or molting I was just wondering how long it could be in there?

    Hi buddy was after some advice. I have a sun tiger which was always out on display, shes probably a juvenile and I have gave her a cork bark with two wholes and she has webbed both entrances and has not came out for over 6wks? Is this pre molt behaviour?? Many thanks for any advice

    • @ArachnoDan
      @ArachnoDan  4 года назад

      Chris Hatton Hi Chris, this does sound like premolt behaviour I have had tarantulas go into hiding for months before! You can still offer food once a week but just be sure to remove it the morning after you put it in if the tarantula hasn’t taken it. I know sun tigers are notorious for being very secretive.

    • @ParietinaeUmbra

      No need to worry, it's common that they scratch hair off their abdomen, which leaves a bald spot. It will regrow after molting. :)

  • @jamesmullally8335
    @jamesmullally8335 2 года назад +1

    Does premolt start when the abdomen turns black or when it starts to not eat?

    • @ArachnoDan
      @ArachnoDan  2 года назад

      Good question… that i haven’t got an answer for 😂 an imminent molt is when the abdomen goes black, when the tarantula stops eating this could be classed as the start of a premolt. It could Also mean the tarantula is just full.
