Oh, goodness! I was stationed at Osan AB in the late 70's. I found a bake shop in the Chosun Hotel, and got a piece of pecan pie, an iconic American dessert. When I statred eating it on the bus back to Osan, others were hanging over the seats, asking where I got it. Quite a memory!
I am from the American south. Thoroughly enjoyed watching someone else's take on pecan pie. They are almost to beautiful to eat . . . .notice I said "almost". Happy eating, y'all !
The large pie with the layered pecans is perfection! I live in the US and have never seen a pecan pie like that before. I also bake them myself and can say that the pecan layering looks to be alot of effort (I have done layering with sliced fruit like apples)! Wish I could order the large pie here in the US! 😋

I was born and raised in the USA. Never seen a pecan pie with such a tremendous amount of nuts on top, nor that type of crust. I would respectfully say it's not American style. Even so, I'll take a slice. 😄
I like it when one culture or country puts their spin on an "authentic" version of another culture's or country's traditional recipe, I love how food evolves that way. Having said that, I wonder if we presented a true US Southern pecan pie next to one of these (which look gorgeous and delicious) which version most Koreans would prefer.
I'm American & I make a pretty good pecan pie. Especially since I gather & crack the pecans myself from a nearby tree. I'd still prefer their pecan pie. Also I recommend making a brown sugar style pie instead of one with corn syrup. I tried it thinking it would be less sugary. Big mistake. It was so much richer that you couldn't eat more than a tiny piece at a time. But it was so freaking good. Too bad I let the Marie Calendars crust defrost on the counter until it was warm & apparently ruined. Edible but not great. Oops. Didn't know I was supposed to keep it cold. Oh well. I think I'll give in this year & try actually making my own crust. Still at least the pie part was great.
From all of the videos I've seen so far on this channel, (and I've seen a lot), Koreans have a way of taking Western food and turning it into an art form. Fried chicken, cakes, corn dogs, steak and even hamburgers! Now our beloved pies. Amazing. So wish I could visit there.
Very cool. I must say, most Americans don't even go as far as to use pink Himalayan salt or fresh vanilla beans. Also the tart crust looks awesome. What a fun job to make pastries every day. I do that for fun after work.
The workmanship is somewhat magical. After all, it's only pecan pie! Taken to a new level. The ingredients are tops: butter from Normandie, France; superb eggs, real vanilla beans, Himalayan salt (I think), etc... The amount of sugar is a bit much but I guess I would only eat a small portion. It would cover the allowed weekly sugar allowance 😊
It isn't pie crust. I can barely insult a tart and call it a tart crust.. It's sweet and dusty in the mouth. I've yet to find a bakery over here who can make an actual pie crust.

Pecan pie is my favorite. Unfortunately, 99% of the store-bought ones here in the US don’t have the nuts throughout the entire pie, just a measly layer on top. Wishing I was in S. Korea right now!
Not true. Im from the US and I've never bought a pecan pie that didn't have pecans throughout the entire pie. You're not getting them at the right place then. Only difference between this one and the one we have is he put extra extra pecans on top lol

It's not shaped like a regular pie crust. Still looks great. Just different. But no one cooks the same and that's ok. How else do we get so many great and wonderful things in this world? Especially food.
I’m sure they would be tasty, but…….that’s excessively way too much pecan for me. I prefer a thin layer of pecans with about a 3/4” (2.5 cm) thick layer of the delicious filling and then the flakey (hopefully not soggy) pastry crust. Family originated from Tennessee.

This looks like more of a cookie base crust than our dough and the filling is a lot darker than mine. Mine has chopped pecans in the filling and whole pecans decorating the top. Also the filling is lighter but has some maple syrup and lemon juice and lemon zest. Best pecan pie ever.
I've searched for the perfect pecan pie recipe for decades and this one won't be making the cut for a number of reasons including way to many pecans. The percentage of pecans and the custard must match up otherwise its simply a nut cluster
This is a tart dough - a pâte à foncer, and is not as short as a regular American pie dough. It has a much softer texture. It's constructed and baked as a tart as well.

I had a very good lifelong friend that was an excellent cook. She made me a pecan pie. Oh, my❗That was the most delicious pie ever. So many pecans and the melting gooey inside. She peeled the pecans herself. Beautiful friend.

Ive been eating pecan pie since i was a boy shaking the branches to drop the nuts on the ground. Pecan trees are everywhere in the south where I grew up. I didn't see authentic pecan pies being made. You're absolutely correct on the crust. There's more than enough sugar in the filling. Putting it in the crust ruins the balance, and the crust. A proper pie needs some proper crust to go with the filling. Otherwise its too rich, and sweet. Sweet potato pie is similar in the crust requirements. You don't sweeten the crust in that pie either. Good call on the crust.
Faith Markle. I agree. The crust looked like cookie dough. I’ve never seen crust with eggs in it. If you look on the internet for Martha Stewart’s Maple Pecan Pie I think you might like this receipt. It’s pecan pie but not quite as sweet because it has lemon juice and lemon zest in it and also maple syrup. I usually use regular corn syrup instead of the dark corn syrup because the flavor is too strong for me. Best pecan pie I’ve ever made or had!
Totally agree with you both. Pecan pie is terribly sweet already. Loved my mom's, but unlike an apple pie, I couldnt eat more than a slice or two of pecan pie in a sitting. Its just too sweet.

The filling looks great but the outside crust is too thick! A proper pie crust is thin & flaky. The only ingredients for the crust should be low-protein wheat flour, salt, and good lard or shortening. Then only add a very little bit water to bind the ingredients together while keeping it cold.

The best thing you can do for a pecan pie that I've found. Is to gather & crack the pecans yourself. Not buy from the grocery. Pick them up off the ground & crack them yourself. Makes a wonderful candied pecan too. Just uh watch out for little holes. Those might have a little worm in them. Once you've cracked enough you'll just be able to feel the good pecans by their weight.

Pecan pies normally don't contain brown sugar. One thing that I do to cut the sweetness is to serve the pie with unsweetened whipped cream.

The baked treats, sweets are over the top. This pexan pie us best served with whipped cream.
