From the BREAUTUBE collection of amazing GC videos!
Originally aired on The Tonight Show in 1978 with guest host Roy Clark.
These old classic videos is what RUclips is all about!
He performs this like he wrote it and has been singing it for decades. What a phenomenal talent!
WOW!!! What a treat to my eyes and ear to stumble across Glen Campbell covering this 1970s classic song.
what a compliment to have Glen cover yer tune ! He looks pretty stoked to be playing this song....gotta love the original...props to ALL....
Stoked indeed-he and the whole band are killing it. Great performance!
Glen Campbell is a true American treasure. I m not sure people realize what a kick ass guitar player he was. Plus a great singer.
Rip. Glenn Campbell 😍
If they didn't know before, they sure do now.
Glenn had started out as a sessions player. When Elvis was putting a back up band together for returning to playing live shows, Glenn was on the list for guitar players but Glenn's singing career was taking off and subsequent variety show. Fortunately Elvis was able to get James Burton and Glenn went on as a perfomer.
@@ST-rt1qmGlen Campbell was a member of The Wrecking Crew
One of fav songs of all time and had never seen this till today! Awesome, Glen Campbell rocks that guitar!
Thank god people recorcded this
Lord I was “Stunned”….
Well done Glen.
People don't realize Glen was an "extreme perfectionist" who rehearsed for hours for each TV performance. So, when the live cameras were turned on, he was confident and relaxed. (see "Life With My Father" by Debby Campbell, who toured with him for 24 years)
Super well done my friend!! Rest in peace Glen Campbell
This song really shows off the range of Glen's voice. He can hit those high notes but he can go down really low and always stay exactly in tune. Wonderful! Thanks for posting!
+Stars and Stripes GC, Elvis, Johnny Townsend (original singer of this) were the best of the best.
Spot on. What a beautiful voice. Total package
One of the best guitar players in the business.
Wow, what luck stumbling on to this gem. Glen Campbell could play alright. Brilliant, just brilliant.
Nice cover job. That was a boat load of brass horns accompanying Glen. Kinda of surreal seeing someone else singing this iconic classic.
Wow! I said no one could compare to Johhny Townsend, but Lord did Glen do it justice. I never knew he had such range and he was having a ball with song. I was never a great big fan, but I have a new-found respect for this man. Oh, the depths of his talent and interests in different music. RIP Glen.
Fantastic rendition!!!
Sanfred Townsend's performance of this song on the Midnight Special, is close to the best live performance by a band i have ever seen. So anyone trying to cover this song has a huge task, but Glen and the band do a great job here. Maybe not quite as good as Sanfred Townsend's performance, but pretty damn close.
I agree. I love Glenn so much but I'm Johnny Townsend's niece and nothing can touch Sanford Townsend. 💕
@@friggsnowden5210 Amazing set of pipes your uncle had (and maybe still has) in his prime. You must be so proud.
Glen was good on this song but not even close to as good as Sanford Townsend Band nobody can do what they did with it.
I tried singing it at karaoke once and it was a disaster 😂😂
@@friggsnowden5210 Agreed. So cool!
Love these moments in time. Glen is having a really good time. 👍👍
So cool, he pulled it off and did a great job!
This song is about a 9+ on the difficulty scale to cover. The band killed it! And Glen Campbell undoubtedly was one of the all time talents! A great song originally done by the Sanford Townsend band, a real jem!
Glenn did a great job covering this one
my mommy loves Glen Campbell and I used to listen to him when I was a kid and I didn't appreciate how great a performer and musician he was kudos go out to him and his band
That's the Tonight Show Band, from the Johnny Carson days.
@farmerbill6855 That band from Johnny Carson's show was great Doc sevren can't remember their names but they could jam with anybody 😀
Wow! Quite a bit different from how I'm used to watching him play. Rest in peace, my man.
That version just blew my mind! Thank you!
He looks good with his hair flowing naturally this way (not all poofed-dee-do'd and sprayed with acrylic).
What humor, humility and understated incredible talent. I think he did justice to the Sanford Townsend Band.😄
Kudos to Glen this is not an easy song to do live
OMG I know Glen’s talent but didn’t know he would rock out like that. Don’t think there’s anything he couldn’t do.
Such an excellent performance, Bravo! May you Rest In Peace.
Wow! I didn't know he covered this song. Great rendition!
What a genius
Wow! What a great cover! Miss you Glen...
I saw this when it aired, and have looked for it since the birth of RUclips. Not as good as I remember, but still pretty good.
Ed Shaughnessy killing it on the drums! What a beast of a player
not an easy song to pull off.. great job and great band
really looks like he's having fun !!!
Great cover! Love this
Nailed it
Tremendous cover of a great song.
Great song by Sanford Townsend Glen at his best what a band
That is an Ovation Bluebird 6C Electric Guitar Creme to Blue Flake Burst that was built special for Glen. Pinterest has a picture of the guitar.
Whooo Killin it!
Wish He would have recorded this!
Brilliant!!🎙🎸❤❤
We still have amazing talented musicians like this. Unfortunately the record companies only want to push pop garbage and rap on us these days. No current act can match this talent…
Won't find too many Ovation electric guitar players! He often played the acoustics. That last little double stop run is very difficult!
The other guy playing guitar and singing backup, no slouch.
That's Carl Jackson. Probably the best banjo player, ever.
anyone who tunes while performing has serious talent, back when there was real ...quality television and entertainment...eventhough the song is about a cheating woman:)
Nice guitar work too!
My second favorite song of all time but still like Sanfaord Townsend Band version best. It is difinatly missing the beginning saxaphone part. The fact he didn't sing an orginal song on the sow tells what a great song this is as even Glen had to do a version.
What a fantastic guitarist, singer, and entertainer. His rendition of the song is better than the original!!!
This is a really good cover of an all-time classic. A bit richer due to the expanded horn section and Glen's virtuosic guitar. All in all, a worthy rendition.
As good as Sanford Townsend!❤
Seeing him wielding a solid-body Ovation guitar blows me away. 👍
I love that Bakersfield sound, but I like the song more!
Omg to have glen clembell fuck you up
The original was sung as a duet, Glen blends, and sings both parts, pitch perfect, all by himself. Glens live , un produced version has much more upbeat energy.... He was just having fun. Not a song he ever recorded.
Is that the Tonight Show Band with Roy Clark as the guest host???
That would be a "YES'. A couple of Glen's touring band musicians were also playing on the song.
Shows what a great song this is--even Glen Frickin' Campbell can't top the original, good as his take is!
He's trying to juggle the singing and lead guitar parts, and direct a full orchestra. So something's got to give.
Glenn was a much better guitar player on cocaine. His frenetic energy and amazing musicianship is on clear display here and so what if did a bump of cocaine every now and then. He was fantastic
On drums: Stanley Kubrick!
Equally as good as the original by Sanford Townsend. I love both singers & their bands.... Way too cool....
great job, albeit in a lower key, but still great!
Better than the original - and that’s really saying something. Great band backing him up.
Love Glen, but tbis is not near as good as the original!
Not bad Glen. Still like the original. cool none the less.
Who is that TV host?
Roy Clark subbing for Johnny Carson
Shame the sound quality is so awful, but it's a storming take on a magnificent record.
I still like Sanford Townsend Band's version better, but this ain't half bad.
Glen was like a southern virtuoso! He could sing and play that guitar better than the original! Glen shoulda stayed on top...damn substances but he finished well
3:34!!
Yep, caught that too!
Hazey
He missed a few of the lyrics, didn’t he?
I never knew he played guitar
youtube watcher a joke I hate that I thought of because I loved glen. "He didn't either in the end".
I recall Alice Cooper saying he could play right up until nearly the end, after he stopped talking in fact.
He was a GREAT player!
He's one of the most well known session guitarists in pop/rock, and has been 17 on at least one of Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists of all time.
So he just randomly decided to cover a one-hit wonder from the 70s? Lol.
Yikes
Omg. Horrible. It's not an upbeat song. My opinion, nothing against Glen Campbell.
