Jimmie Webb may be one of the biggest unsung heroes of music. Epic
His “Ten East Pieces” version is my favorite. Jimmy is the best!
Certainly of the time. Amazing.
without of doubt
Amen.
Agreed johnsmith!
Jimmy Webb is such a great song writer. His lyrics create real pictures of real people’s real emotions. Him and Glen are in synch like bacon and eggs.
Wow. Webb is a fabulous pianist. His songs are filled with complex chords and that is part of what makes them great. Glen Campbell knows how to sing complex chord arrangements which makes him great. Add to that Webb's poetic lyrics that always tell a complete story of the human condition and Cambell's virtuoso guitar playing and you get musical magnificence. Very moving.
Well said. This is a masterpiece.
Love YOU BOTH THANK YOU 🙏 LOVE IT ❤️
You gotta watch Jimmy’s concert in McArthur Park. His playing is absolutely incredible, especially on that song. Two legends.
They are USA CREAM
Together they are perfection.❤️🎹
Glen is gone, sadly, but his wonderful singing lives on.
Webb is a freaking genius on that piano..absolutely beautiful
As a truck driver, every time I drive by Wichita I look for the Wichita lineman. The town has a mystique to me because of that great song.
@@Leveraction-xr4uz Oh cool, thanks for sharing that. God bless!
@Forrest Cain No kidding! That's hilarious. 🤣 Here I was all these years, etc. 😂
@Forrest Cain Just wondering how you knew I meant Kansas, but indeed I did. Thanks for setting the record straight. There's nothing worse than having information you think is correct but isn't. That can lead to an embarrassing situation. Thanks again Sir!
😃👍
@Forrest Cain it’s nice to read a respectful and polite conversation between two strangers. We need more of it. And what a fabulous song, writer. Can’t ever get enough of Glen’s voice and guitar playing.
J.: Thanks 4 the job you do & may GOD Bless you!!!
There will never be another Glen Campbell, or another partnership like this one.
Jimmy Webb gave birth to this song and Glen Campbell gives it life.
Well said
Beautifully stated.
Jimmy Webb underappreciated 20th. century composer.
as a singer too, just heard him recently, very good.
I caught him in Cincinnati. Best performance I've ever attended. Small, interpersonal and engaging. The stories were so revealing about the history of modern music and were as captivating as his melodies. Jimmy later headed to NY for an Alzheimer's benefit event. God bless him & Glenn.
He's an *incredible* pianist too. His phrasings are next-level.
Not by me.
There is something about good music that tells you it is good to be alive. That is some good music with two artist that know what they are doing.
@Bobby Klein I appreciate talented artist that use music to tell stories that are relatable. Jimmy Webb's understanding of music coupled with Glen Campbells sincerity in telling and selling the story masterfully.
Privileged to see two "Greats" playing together. Nuff said.
Jimmy Webb is a genius and the great Glen Campbell was the best protagonist of Jimmy's songs.
I cried when he died.
God bless Glen Campbell
This has to be the best version of this song. Jimmy Webb is a fabulous pianist. As my grandfather would say "He plays all of the keyboard." Not to mention a powerhouse of a writer. Glen Campbell has always been a breathtaking guitar player.
I disagree. Jimmy’s version on Ten Easy Pieces is so intimate. It’s probably the best I’ve ever heard.
You are so correct!
Well said!
I love the mutual admiration. Fabulous songwriter and diamond performer.
Wished I could have been there .
Glen Campbell - Virtuoso guitarist ,
Incredible singer ; Jimmy Webb one of the grratest writer's .
Excellent pianist !!
" Wichita Linemen " -
"By the time I get to Pboenix "
Fabulous entertainers ....
Bravo 🏆👏
🙋♂️👍😃
Whoooooooa!!! 🤯Glen’s solo, Jimmy’s swirling soaring chords….. 2 🐐
Two legends, and one tragic loss for American music. May Glen Campbell's memory be for a blessing.
No one can touch Jimmy and Glenn. Impeccable
"I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time"
might be one of THE single-most romantic lyrics EVER written in the history of the American Popular Songbook.
The best song ever written sung by the best performer, superb, sublime and beautiful
Christ, that's beautiful. Webb is just masterful at the piano. Stunning and sublime.
One of the bestsongs ever written! Everytime I hear it ..Iam taken away into another dimension ....thank you Glenn, and thank you Jimmy!
Agreed!!! I heard a critic call this the 1st (and only?) existential country song. Perfect description.
bb lang......another song that "takes me away" is Beginnings by Chicago. Your thoughts?
+Bambi Brown Yes! Its One of those Great Songs that instantly brings back so many memories!
In my Life is another one for me! Whats your thoughts on that one? Friend
Wow you two have got great taste! In my Life, Beginnings (esp Astrud Gilberto's version for me) and Wichita Lineman - all utterly timeless beauties.
another dimension I am in, indeed ! Haunting and melancholic too.
It doesn't get any better than this..... Jimmy and Glen
I remember hearing this song for the first time on AM radio riding in my grandmother's car. Brings back so many memories.
Absolutely magical song that when I hear it today takes me back to my 17 year old youth. What great memories of an innocent time. Then I enlisted and went to Vietnam which changed everything for me. But the innocent times still resonate with me and I’m so glad I lived them.
Bless your heart💔
God Bless you my man
God bless you and thank you for your service Mr. Mohr!
Vietnam changed everything for so many who went and the people who loved them!! Thank you for your service sir!! You are not forgotten!! 😍
Amen brother but the innocence is really good to remember
Thank you Jimmy, for an amazing song that brings me to tears every time. I was born in 69, so this song has been around my whole life. Rest in Love, Glen. Thank you for the music. 💜
Indeed, indeed.
Jimmy Webb did write some great songs and had a sophisticated style. I did not appreciate Glen so much when I was a young rock and roller but later I came to like his work. He was a studio guitarist in L.A. for years before he became a star in his own right.
Michael Angelus He was one of the most sought after studio guitarists in the biz. He's all over Beach Boys recordings, and many others.
Hard to believe this song is 50 next year so timeless
Wow!!! Jimmy Webb..fits like a glove.. beautiful ❤️
And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time. Best lyric ever.
+azcrim I agree. I think this may be the best version ever as well.
+Jim Hacker At the Cabaret Show they I got to attend, (Feinstein's) they did a killer version of "Lightning In A Bottle" as well!!:-)
So very true.
Two true Genius artists at work here...we are watching incredibly beautiful history---
Jimmy Webb. Incredibly prolific song weaver.
This is perfection. Webb's songwriting and marvelous piano playing with Glen's one-of-a-kind voice and guitar. Still a beautiful song.
Incomparable beauty.
What an amazing performance all these many years later!! RIP GLEN
I'm humbled by the talent of these two. Just wow.
Absolutely the best version I’ve seen so far. Beautiful and haunting. These two should have been a duo. Fantastic song writing and playing by Mr Webb, and of course Mr Campbell. What a treat. Billy Joel said it best, only the good die young.
What a wonderful performance!
Love this song. A classic!
Wow this rendition is absolutely gorgeous
I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time....One of the great song lyrics of the 20th Century. Want to write great songs...study Jimmy Webb's.
"I hear you singing through the wire" is the one that always gets me. Brilliant.
Beautiful.
So many beautiful elements in this performance, but I particularly like Glenn's guitar phrasing at 3:38. Magical.
This was a live, one of a kind performance.
How can anyone not like this song,
Wow, best version of this song. Amazing!!! 🙏💯🎶🎵
...direct and clean
This song will ever be part of the American fabric! Beautiful & heart wrenching!
And I need you more than want you are the best lyrics ever written! Thanks Jimmy and Glen.
This video is reason why Glen has always been one of my musical heroes. RIP Glen. You are missed.
Glen is playing one of his Ovation guitars.
One of the best versions ever. Webb smokes that piano, a genius.
It doesn’t get better than this !
Stunning, soulful and total Americana in the most pure sense.
"What a great song, Jimmy." 'Nuf said, right there.
"Need this Song More than Want It -- and I Want It for All Time...!!"
As beautiful and haunting a melody as has ever been recorded. Thanks, Glen and Jimmy.
It doesn't get any better than this. This is great.
The nearly 'good Old Days' even back then things were a bit more sane not perfect but better, I wanna go back in time and stay there! Beautiful song! RIP Glen! Jimmy had a nice voice for a songwriter!
Great combination of two extremely talented guys.
As happy as the songs Jimmy Webb wrote and Glen performed make me happy, I get equally sad as they fade out and end. I long for more of the story of each one, but they leave me wanting more.
Two of the best in all time!👍
Der Song hat's insich, sowohl Komposition wie auch Text.
Mann o' mann.......for all time
I hope the people sitting right there realized they were witnessing the greatness to which they’d never be that close to again. My jaw would have been on the floor.
Love the ovation. My dad always played ovation like his hero Chick corea
Every time I hear Glenn's voice lately, it brings me to tears. So beautiful
Wow his voice is awesome!! He's still got it.
Legends!
This is an incredible rendition of Witchita Lineman. Both Jimmy and Glen are virtuosos on their respective instruments, and you can see the amazing interplay between the two of them. I always liked the original (never a big fan of the orchestration,) but this is absolutely sublime and on a whole other level. Amazing!
Simply: “The Best “.🙏🙏🙏
Gorgeous. I have found many versions of this song. It haunts me.
Much respect for these two musicians.
OhMYGod. That brings a tear to my eye. Two of the greatest of all time.
the brightest stars from the time when my body still was young
Two legends. No doubt about it
This was not the first time Glen and Jimmy performed together. In 1988, they recorded a program for the Canadian series *In Session*, which was filmed at CHCH-TV studios in Hamilton, Ontario. It was released as a DVD later.
They are the best!
Iconic song.
So much talent in that small room!!! I'm sure those present understood what an amazing privilege it was to be there.
This m ay have been the FIRST time they played together, but it certainly wouldn't be the last! I am on a mission to see every performance they ever played together!
Virtuoso songwriter performs with virtuoso guitarist/ singer ! I’m in a world of sheer bliss ❤
Just perfect. Rest in Peace.
What a treat this is! I always loved this song...but this live version with Webb is outstanding,,,and so beautiful ❤️ Those are some lucky ladies standing on the sidelines😘
the eye to eye contact between them during the song just shows that both of them were brilliant, this was literally a gig
Please teach todays artists how to write songs, Mr. Webb. I'll miss you Glen and thanks for the great music. R.I.P.
He put his heart out and told all in his book "Tunesmith"....I've read Billy Joel reads it all the time!!
@@Tunz909 Very good book. I love Jimmy's principle of the "Violation of Expectations". In order to grab the listener, somewhere in a great song there needs to be the element of surprise, violating the brain's expectation of what is to come. And speaking of Billy Joel, he is an absolute master of this principle.
...Man oh man...those lines that Jimmy is playing, starting at 4:05, are GOLDEN !!!
Simply magnificent
✌️ 2023
Glenn was most proud of this song…he will always talk about the plays it got
Best version of the song I've ever heard
Just so beautiful. Both of them!
Glenn is an example of someone who doesn't have a great voice but is a great singer.
So beautiful!! I have no words. Just incredible to see them together
I love this version better than the original. So much more intimate and two really great musicians perfectly blended together.
Damn this is a great version. After all the passing years. This song is still magic.
wonderful video, thank you Glenn Campbell and Jimmy Webb.
Still sublimely beautiful after all these years!
I will misshim. RIP Glen. Good song
@Bobby Klein yes. Of course. Im a Big fan
@Bobby Klein hard to choose. Maybe Gentle on my mind
@Bobby Klein and yours?
The people in that small audience are VERY lucky....whew!
They bland so well..true birds of a feather
Just so fantastic - love to see the singer of the definitive version and
the song writer perform together - an emotive moment for sure!
Cry every time so good
We love Glen, we love the lyrics but the music is excellent in this song.
Love you Glen, your music lives on. 🎵💕
Wonderful song and excellent musicianship and vocals. Haunting song.
It's nice to hear someone play who are in their element. Both so beautifully expressed.
Awesome
