    Just bought and tested that lens following your recommendations and it is absolutely brilliant. Hard to imagine i ever could do without. One slight issue for videomakers is the stabilizer which is rock solid but skips every few seconds to reset. Not an issue for photography but only to be used on a tripod for video work. Still, truly awesome lens for the price.

    This lens, new to me, is just amazing. It is mad sharp at 300mm...and the image stabilisation is the best Ive ever used......I have, in the last 2 years had Sigma 150-500, 70-300 Canon IS, and a lovely Canon Mk 1100-400 L...Sold them all as they didnt quite hold everything together...I can tell that this lens is a keeper. Just bought this lens on Chris's recommendation and i've got to say he is absolutely spot on. I love this lens and have up to now been very happy with the pictures I have taken with It. So far the only fault I can find with It is the weight! Boy is this lens heavy both on the camera and in the bag. However this is a small price to pay. It has improved my Canon 600d's pictures immensely. Thanks Chris, great review!

    I have used this on both my 7100, and my 750 (Nikon). After the normal calibration on both cameras, this lens is superb, with the emphasis on SUPERB! The VC (vibration control/compensation) is beyond anything on the market.I use it for events (low light and ample, without flash, portraits, wildlife, street photography, and landscapes. Tamron has set the benchmark for all other makers. Tamron should be in your bag.

    Thank you very much for this review, Christopher. I was VERY close to buying the much lesser Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Lens until I saw your review of it. Then, having subsequently watched this one, you've convinced me to save up for some better glass with VC & USD. Especially as I intend to use it for filming too in the near future. :-)

    I had the Tamron on a D800 for around 3 years until I gave it away to an upcoming photo pro in my family :) IMO this is one of the best price/quality performers on the market. The OS is probably the most effective one I´ve ever had. Though it makes some noise. Tamron has really stepped up in terms of build and image quality and kept reasonible prices.

    Thank you for a great review as usual. I ordered mine and I`m quite happy. I`ll pair it with my Sigma 18-35 Art and I guess I`ll get rid of the Canon 15-85 usm. It will go on my Canon 70D.
    Still there are some weaknesses of this lense that you don`t point out as deal breakers but they could be for some... the performance in low light situations the sharpness and the performance of the AF over the 200 mm and the bokeh makes this lense not recommended for indoor or portraits use.
    Also the VC as great as it is for stills is not so great for video work.

    Im still a bit unclear on which lens your trying to convey is better here, this Tamron 70-300 or the Canon 70-300?
    Im really interested in either lens just want to know which one is the overall better lens (sharpness/build quality etc.)
    Thanx Chris i love your videos btw

      +guitarist6494 I prefer the Tamron (VC USD version of course)

      Ah ok. I heard you mention in the video it has better build quality, but do you think its sharper and better at low-light ?
      Thanx for the response

      @christopherfrost  8 лет назад

      +guitarist6494 It has the same aperture so there's no difference in low-light work

      +guitarist6494 He's speaking on the video topic, the Tamron 70-300 VC as a better quality overall lens...

    Hi Chris, have you also tested the a bit newer version A030, I am curious whether there is any difference

    Had this lens, and returned to Canon 55-250 STM which is of similar quality, a lot cheaper, and LIGHTER, turned out that I never have it with me because of it's weight. Only worthwhile if you have a fullFrame body.
    Eventually I ended up also replacing all of them with Tamron 16-300 which is quiet acceptable and adds up as an all-in-one.

    Hi Christopher,
    Thank you for reviewing this lens. You've done an awesome job. Based partly on your review, I decided to get this lens for my Nikon D7200. However, unfortunately I'm a little disappointed with the image quality. I would like to know if the zoom in on your test stills in this video is to 100 procent or more? When viewing my images in 200 per cent (2:1) in Lightroom, they are not that sharp. Images taken with my 18-140 3.5-5.6 VR DX lens seem sharper and more punchy.
    Thank you and good job.

      @christopherfrost  9 лет назад +1

      nicolaidenmark I zoom in a little bit past 100% for these pictures. The D7200 is a 24mp camera, whereas the Canon 60D used in this video is only 18mp, so that's probably the issue - your camera's sensor is more demanding.

    Can I use this with my canon650d? And which is better between this and Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM?

      +White hotae All Canon mount lenses made since 1987 will work on your Canon APS-C digital SLR camera, except EF-M lenses. As for which lens is better, check out my APS-C telephoto zoom lens recommendation video

    I sold my older canon 70-300 is lens and brought this, these are dirt cheap compared to the canon model and yet I think out perform them?
    Love your reviews - simply excellent.

      How much does it cost and where can we buy

  • @mmadmic

    I'm a Canon and MFT (Olympus/Panasonic) user, I bought this lens to have a smaller option when "Canoning" and to replace my very good but heavy 24-105 f/4L and 300mm F/2.8 L. I also use my Canon EF lenses on my MFT cameras with an AF adapter with fantastic results but when Canon, the body+lenses+battery grip is close to 6kg, too heavy to carry all day long.
    I bought this Tamron and his little brother 17-50mm 2.8 and it reduced the weight nearly by 2. The picture qualities of both lenses are not as good as the L but still great and the confort of use is amazing.
    VC on Tamron out performs the Canon IS, but my L are MKI, may be better on MKII but the Tamron is perfect, especially compared to the Sigma OS that's just OK.
    On top of that, the Tamron is a 140-600 on MFT, what's great.
    It's sad to say but I let my L lenses sleep in my bag and use exclusively the Tamron as the ratio quality-versatility-portability is really excellent even compare to L lenses and for a fraction of the cost.

    Very nice review. But apart from the major differences like VC and Fast Focusing, does this lens contain the same optic as like Tamron Objectif AF 70-300mm F/4-5,6 Di LD IF Macro 1/2 Nikon??? Can you explain any difference? if any? Thankyou.
