    “Rosanna” was not only my first Toto song. It was also the first time I recall catching many elements in pop music that are taken for granted in one place. They include the different vocal ranges & harmonic spread, the sounds of piano, organ and synthesizer, hard rock lead guitar, the brass arrangement and that funky backbeat. I probably caught samples of each thing someplace else before hearing Toto IV, but that was the first place where it was all ganged together for my ears.

    Mr Pierre Piscitelli youre a wonderful pianist. The sound of the chords you play are amazing. Would it be a bad idea to select your next tutorial song by the sound of the chords? The chords of Rosanna dont need a rock group, or extra musicians, they stand up by themselves. Congratulations.

    This is precicely why I find things so confusing. If in the key of C which I believe has no sharps / flats - how come you are playing those notes. Obviously I'm missing something basic.

    • @pierrejpiscitelli
      @pierrejpiscitelli  4 месяца назад +1

      You are spot-on. In the key of C, there are no sharps or flats in the scale. C, D, E, F, G, A and B are the diatonic, or "legal" notes that belong in the key of C. However, that doesn't mean I am not allowed to play an F#, Bb or whatever I want! We would just have to denote an accidental (sharp or flat) sign wherever appropriate, to indicate that we want that particular note. That being said, our key center or home base can still be the key of C, and we can also change keys within a song, as is the case in "Rosanna." I did not select a key signature for this tutorial since it changes keys several times...it was easier to keep things open (key of C) and let the software show the accidentals wherever appropriate. I know that this response could never be as comprehensive as a proper music theory lesson, but hopefully I've given you some valuable insight. Remember that music is a language, and like learning a foreign language in school it takes years and lots of determination. You eventually reach a point of proficiency and general understanding, but you'll never know everything. I'm still learning on a daily basis! Thanks for watching!
