The little fill / riff part in Rosanna before the "meet you all the way" is insane how fast he finds his place on the other keyboard and plays it flawlessly every time
Phillinganes, Lukather, Jeff and Steve Porcaro, Laboriel, Jerry Hey and Castro were probably the most used session instrumentalists in the music industry the late 70s into the 90s. They tried to stay out of the spotlight but the spotlight eventually found them today. 🤣🤣
If I'm not mistaken, he was the keyboardist in the 2005-2010 TOTO tours. Wow, he is such a pro in keyboard parts, and love that he added his flavor. I'm glad this was recommended to me.
Greg Phillinganes is a rare genius, we are blessed to be able to enjoy his decades of musics in the 70-90s 💞🙏 unlike today's kids which enjoy canned pre programmed dry noise they call "music"
What a TALENT!!! Greg is definitely a legend in the keyboards world. Oh, and how he enjoys what he does! Hats off to this musician who has contributed to many wonderful songs 🧡😁🎹🎶
@@christophermorrison8632 great ear, i’ve probably listened to the nightfly album a few hundred times but never spotted that similarity in the piano solo until replaying them just now
Brilliant. It’s like I know it can be played, but every time I’m like: how does he do that! But seriously, Greg is a top tier keys player. It doesn’t get any better than this, as far as sidemanship is concerned
Awesome~!! I love a keyboardist that PLAYS the song, and not plays over dubs. I'd love to catch a show. This is extremely hard to pull off live, Excellent.
Greg is a mad man on the keys.... Michael Jackson right hand man in the early days of Thriller and Off the wall. This is Greg at his best.... here.... David Paich freaking love Greg
He was playing with the Jacksons in the 1970s. Stevie Wonder and the Jacksons are first cousins and I believe I remember an interview when MJ said that Greg was his cousin as well. Great vid!!
This is the kind of guy you definitely want in your band.
Stevie Wonder agrees
Definitely
Want “in your band”? This man IS your band! 😎

The look on his face when he's playing is is hilarious. Like Yeah I know I'm fuckin good

Completely sick!
The little fill / riff part in Rosanna before the "meet you all the way" is insane how fast he finds his place on the other keyboard and plays it flawlessly every time

I always love Greg's little "yeah, I just did that" smirk
I have also admired Greg's phenomenal keyboard abilities and knowledge, he is a Beast.
@Randy A 😸💯
Un freaking real. Pure genius...pure talent. A living legend that needs to be givin his praise now and not after he's gone.
This guy is a Synths / Keyboards HERO. Totally respect and admire him.
He’s a busy man on stage . Right up there with Rick Wakeman & Keith Emerson
Greg: "I kind of wanted to...pimp out the Africa solo a little."
Us: "...well yes of course!!" 😂🙏
This shit is so damn bad ass. So much talent!
Agreed! To have just a fraction of his skills would be amazing.

This guy is a musical genius one of a kind.
This Artist is incredible! In my point of view one of the best shows of Toto was in 2007.
O yes
Watching a master go over his rig and then the speed in which he switches between the keyboards is amazing. Just incredible.
Greg is the be-all, end-all of keyboardists. The best. Noone better.

Always wondered how he covered Paich's and Steve Pocaroe's parts. I get it now. Damn! He is gooooood.
Damn! I thought it was layered
He's just play it all at once the harmonizing
Greg you’re Awesome! You’re the Best of the Best!
Greg Phillinganes is a rare genius, we are blessed to be able to enjoy his decades of musics in the 70-90s 💞🙏 unlike today's kids which enjoy canned pre programmed dry noise they call "music"
He’s an octopus!😂 Outrageous talent and dexterity ❤
What a TALENT!!! Greg is definitely a legend in the keyboards world. Oh, and how he enjoys what he does! Hats off to this musician who has contributed to many wonderful songs 🧡😁🎹🎶
The moment, when I first heard about him was when I listened to the piano-solo on "Ruby Baby" by Donald Fagen. Still a phenomenal solo! 👍🙏👌
Yep, I'd swear he references 'you really got me' by the Kinks in there.
@@christophermorrison8632 great ear, i’ve probably listened to the nightfly album a few hundred times but never spotted that similarity in the piano solo until replaying them just now
this guy may only have 2 hands, but 4 brains. Saw him live this year just incredible.
those africa patches are beautiful man
can't even find sounds like that on the internet
Love Greg. He is a beast!! Amazing talent.
Well now that he explained it, piece of cake! 👌😂
Brilliant. It’s like I know it can be played, but every time I’m like: how does he do that!
But seriously, Greg is a top tier keys player. It doesn’t get any better than this, as far as sidemanship is concerned
This is fantastic! What a nice person and super talented musician!
He is a genius
Such a great player!
Holy shit! He makes it look easy! 🔥
Awesome~!! I love a keyboardist that PLAYS the song, and not plays over dubs. I'd love to catch a show. This is extremely hard to pull off live, Excellent.
One word: OUTSTANDING!!!
The man literally wrote the soundtrack of the last four decades, truly amazing.
I needed this video 30 years ago when I was playing these songs with my band

Just perfect! In fact, Toto's 2007 Africa version with Greg is my top favorite.
the great keyboardist...amazing skills
Greg-a big part of MJ’s recordings! 🎵
Greg is so amazing he sounds like two keyboardists in one.
got to post this also......this man is GENIUS!
Phillanges is one hell of a talented player!
Superb independence between his left and right hands.
My mind immediately went into overdrive when that Africa solo ended - 3:20.
“Hurry boy, she’s waiting there for you!!!!!”
Extremely underrated musician

Just amazing
Lovely melodies.

Mind boggling brilliance
This man can DO IT ALL!😌🎹🎶👍🏾
Master at his craft.
In portugues we are used to say "Who knows, do it live" -> Congrats Greg, amazing show!
I hope Toto paid Greg the wage of three men
The ad for his replacement says "Must be able to do this....". Right.....
you are something else man...
Such an iconic keyboardist!
This guy is AWESOME!!!!
He created such memorable licks.
He was all over damn near every Stevie Wonder album in the early 70's - present
Looks like his first with Stevie was 1976's Songs In The Key Of Life. 46 years ago!
@@tehrobotjesus yup
I think he was Michael Jackson's keyboardist in the late 70's early 80's
My man Greg is a beast
SIMPLY SUPERB SIR.....SIMPLY SUPERB
The one man overdub machine 😊
Friggin AWESOME.
Here after he played live with John Mayer. That solo was beautiful
Legend..
Phillinganes served as the musical director for Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour for its entire run from 2011 to 2014.
He was playing with the Jacksons in the 1970s. Stevie Wonder and the Jacksons are first cousins and I believe I remember an interview when MJ said that Greg was his cousin as well. Great vid!!
And all the single keyboard cover bands smack their heads in awe!
If Greg was an octopus, he would be one hell of an orchestra!!
A man with two brains 🧠 one for each keyboard.
Thank you, Greg.
🤯🙌🏼 Bravo!
Wow man. Awesome Greg 👏👏👏
❤ from Burundi 🇧🇮
This is why it’s so hard to find a great keyboard player for a not so great band…
The sheer talent, skill, practice time, programming, etc….
Love this man. Genius on keys!
Absolutely awesome
