I started learning classical piano at 5 gave up in my teens because i hated reading music, scales, arpeggios and triplet practice, this took me 48 hours to learn (no patch) from both your videos + muscle memory i didnt know i had (and no sleep). So I owe my old teachers an overdue apology and you a huge thank you for your teaching style🔥🔥🔥 I have always wanted to learn this 💞💓💕🙏🙏🙏 Off to bed now very happy
Hey i was woundeing if you could do a tutorial on Elton Johns Levon its one of my all time favorite elton songs and i really wanna learn it keep up the good work
Great lesson, thanks! But you forgot to comment on what happens live and on studio. Perhaps also something about the innovations Greg Phillinganes brought?
Thanks! Yes Greg taught Paich a better way to play the kalimba line during the main riff, I believe. What a brilliant musician! I think I mentioned that in the main Africa video that I put out a few days ago?
OMG I love “Africa” and never thought of learning it. This is bitter sweet. My first real keyboard love the DX7 died last year. I used to live in a humid apartment that wasn’t favorable to it. Thanks for this.
Buy yourself a Nautilus Kronos Keyboard. You can emulate virtually any of the old FM Yamaha DX7 or Roland Keyboards by loading the Keyboard samples into the sound library. The whole entire Yamaha DX7 sound library can also be download as a VST puggin that can be triggered via any DAW sequencer application on your PC or Apple computer.
Aside from your outstanding skills and clear explanations, you have a super positive demeanor even in the face of challenging material. You smile a lot when you get it right, that is how all of us want to feel! Thank you for all of this!
Very impressive. You have a great teaching style and I’m particularly impressed how you use your left thumb on the black keys during the crossover. As a self taught musician, I would often do this as a “cheater” and when I got to College and I was flat out prohibited from ever doing that in class. Made me absolutely dislike classical music and the whole college pedagogy snobbery. Berkeley College of music and “Open Studio” online so much better. I appreciate your talent and what you add to the music community.
GS1 was rather used instead of DX7 and brass was CS-80. Remember this was recorded before DX7 was released in 1982. GS1 was an early FM synth though so you can get those type of sounds.
@@pierrejpiscitelli that's alright, DX7 is pretty much same FM engine but much more capabilities (GS1 is also extremely rare). The CS-80 is analog but DX7 brass is decent enough for this.
Several Yamaha synths have a dx7 (fm) sound engine with sysex library compatibility. That might be a great alternative and gives more capabilities too.
Great video, thanks. With a fair amount of practice, you could play it all with the right hand without resorting to making a patch with tuned 4ths. I turned it onto a kind of hanon exercise with playing in 3rds and 4ths. The middle phrase can't be accurately played this way due to the octave separation of the 3rds and 4ths but it sounds reasonably ok when done this way.
@@pierrejpiscitelli Hi Pierre...yor re also a great SD Fan i think. Please have Listen to my song UNDER SHABBY BRIDGE featuring SD drummer Keith Carlock....cheers

Great @Pierre can you add "After All These Years" by JOURNEY to your next tutorial?

@pierrejpiscitelli I still have my DX7. What program/settings are you using?
explained so fantastically. I can follow very well, both acoustically and visually.
Such great music! And you play it well too.
🙏🏻
Playing it 'simple' is Toto-ly fine.
dads everywhere are slow clapping...
hey man, really good tutorial. Can you drop the notes?
Piscitelli deserves more subscriberris 👍
Thanks, on my way :)
Let’s not forget Weezer version… which sounds like it’s played underwater. Then again it’s hard to hold your breath for that long.
Isn’t weird Al singing it with them?
@@pierrejpiscitelli Yes, sure is.

Yes, it didn’t exist yet- but sadly I don’t have either of those machines.

@@luc7976 BTW, what you are hearing is all plug-ins. I just thought that my vintage DX looked cool for the video.
Wish I hadn't given away my old DX7. And sold my old Fender Rhodes for that matter...
I was just thinking the same thing!

Good lesson but I really love the 1983 Yamaha DX7 synth ! ❤
It's a fun piece of gear. I love it too.
